Personal rant

So I am slowly recovering from a rough bout of flu and what seems like a secondary infection that makes breathing difficult and startles me awake several times a night due to choking on that gunk I simply can't hawk up or blow out.

I ended up postponing an exam because I didn't want to go in there all fucked up with a temp of 104, so it's put me at least four months behind schedule before I can do a retry. Also lost a lot of training progress at a critical stage before rugby season starts, am at least 1-2 months behind now.

The only thing to do is to get to work on getting back on track, but man was this an ordeal. I haven't been this sick for years. I was looking forward to relaxing more during the spring and going out more, meeting more people and mastering the SNL, but now I see more nights at home getting plenty of rest and recovery if I want to make those goals. In no way a terrible situation, but a pain in the ass for sure.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

Hope you get better soon, man, and sorry to hear about the delays regarding education and sports. It's amazing what trouble a round of sickness can cause sometimes.

Just got over a weeklong illness myself. This time last year I'd caught a viral infection of some sort that transitioned into a bacterial infection of the upper respiratory tract. Bad times - hard to breathe at times. I damned near thought I was dying at one point, ironically, while riding with a friend to a funeral.

Again, hope you feel better.

Do you smoke?

You might want to try a steam room to clear your lungs a little.

Not cigs, but occassionally I enjoy a small cigar

Thanks for the steam room tip, I live next to a gym so I'll pop in.

Definitely feeling better overall, but this throat thing is lingering. I can't even use it for "why don't come over and make me some soup" game. Hope the sympathy angle works in my favor later tho...

It is kind of strange, it seems it is usually non-smokers that get these problems.

Also, if you can find a steam room with eucalyptis you should be golden.

Get some hot peppers and tomato sauce. Put them in the blender and make it spicy enough that when you put a scoop on a tortilla chip your ears burn. Clear out and repeat. Use sour cream to take the edge off. Drink some Mexican beer like Modelo real cold with it.

Sorry to hear that. It must have been whipping through the area. I know a handful of people that were laid out with fever for a week, and the recovery is lasting a month.

I had a borderline virus that lasted five days. It never sank in fully though. Even losing five days is a massive setback, so I can only sympathize for what you are going through.

Get better. We have a trip to Gotenburg to make soon.
