Vorkuta,I wanted to ask you did you see any problem with the fact that Tiraspol's population is very small (150000 I think)? Does it affect variety of choices and anonymity as it does in Ukraine?(for example Uzghorod,Ternopil with similar populations are highly problematic as hunting places due to these factors).

Hey Greek. Yes I don't think it can be denied that the relatively small population of Tiraspol is a negative. I don't think you need worry about having enough choice as I saw so many attractive women but in terms of anonymity, yes it must be a hindrance especially with so few tourists around. The second city of Bendery is just a 25 cent trolleybus ride away so you don't need to stick to just Tiraspol. However if you went there projecting the right profile you possibly could use that lack of anonymity to your advantage in some way. Since I never gamed there I'm not an expert on the way things work in PMR. What I do know is that in the Summer days I was there I saw more hot women then I have ever seen anywhere else in my life. I don't know if there was some kind of international teenage modelling convention on in town or what was going on but everywhere I looked I saw another lithe 18 year old walking about, sun kissed and with next to nothing on.

Is there any real danger (mafia/organized crime, muggings) in Moldovia and Pridnestrovia for tourist?

It's funny, when I was in Moldova proper ( Moldova considers PMR as an integral part of it's territory and has never recognised it's split ) the local Moldovan people warned me not to go to Tiraspol. They said I would be robbed and that the place was just full of criminal gangs roaming the streets and driving stolen Mercedes. Of course that only encouraged me to go even more. And when we got there we saw that the place seemed much safer then Chishinau. Unlike Moldova the place is spotlessly clean, the people dress well, there are modern football stadiums, clean restaurants, factories seem to be working,no dead dogs and beggars. I know I sound like a PMR governmental spokesman but the place seemed very orderly and well run. I would MUCH rather live in PMR then Moldova. Most of Moldova's infrastructure from Soviet times was on the East bank of the river Dniester so when Pridnestrovia split it inherited most of Moldova's indusrtial might. Thus poor old Moldova not only lost a chunk of territory the poor sods also lost most of their industry. A double kick in the nuts. No wonder they are bitter about it. Added to that is Russia helping PMR with subsidised fuel and cash handouts ( not to mention stationing part of it's army there so Moldova cannot invade ). It's a bit messed up.

Damn, that's pretty good Vorkuta.. I had to go through PMR when driving back from Chisinau to Kiev and I thought the place was a pain in the ass from what I judged from the border guards.

The border cops seriously tried to shake us down hard and we let them go and try because we knew we had one trump card waiting for us. Then when they finally make their demands for cash, one of my buddies whipped out his European diplomatic passport. And they let us go without a hitch.

That kind of crap didn't make us feel like stopping in Tiraspol just to check it out. From what you just wrote, maybe we should have.

That said, I still think PMR is for advanced travelers only. I think it'd be super easy to get fucked over there and have absolutely no help or recourse. If you don't speak Russian, I think you'd be totally fucked.

Kiev and Chisinau are pretty safe and tame overall and you have embassies and embassy personnel to help you out in a jam. Lvov is nice and civilized, more so than the Eastern part of Ukraine. I recommend those for beginners. Also, I can't imagine that Tiraspol has better looking women than Odessa, so yeah, in Odessa you may have more foreign competition, but on the other hand, you're more anonymous and no one's going to give a shit that you are there. Anyhow, I guess I'm getting off the topic of Moldova. Chisinau is great and you still get the rare foreigner card to play (maybe not as much as PMR, but enough), one that you don't get to play in Kiev or Odessa.

Good point Subotai.

I never made it down to Odessa but can't realistically see the girls in PMR being that much better either. It would make little sense since the cities are so close. I think part of my reason for being so overwhelmed was that I had never been to a summer resort town in the FSU before ( Tiraspol is far from that but has a bathing beach where the girls congregate ). Hence to see so many hot young women in bikinis blew me away. If I had been in Odessa,Sochi, or in the Crimea I would possibly have been just as impressed.

Any updates on Moldova? How is it now?

PMR is nice, but I'm not sure I could stay longer than a couple days...it might get a bit tough.

Tiraspol is very small... a city of 300k is OK,
but 150k?? You can walk across the whole city in short order.

I agree that its a nice town, clean and safe. Sort of a pseudo-communist economy. Its funny how the West and the IMF promise better life, but places like West Moldova(Kishinev) show that its often the elite who benefit while most people get screwed. Then again, without Russian petro dollars, they wouldn't have that life, so it is a subsidized economy.

Anyways, who has visited Moldova recently?
I might go back this summer if I get some friends who are interested in going.

My goal is to visit both. I will start in Chisinau and try to make it to the east and visit Tiraspol.

There is Russian ability throughout the country. All Moldovians I've met in Romania speak Russian at least conversationally, but they are a bit shy/ashamed, and will only speak if absolutely necessary.

I may hit Moldova in June.

I don't even know why I'm sharing this but...

Antalya, Turkey and the surrounding towns seems to be a huge vacation destination for Moldovans who can afford to travel. I flew from Antalya to Chisinau a few years ago- my flight was about 80% Moldovan women, 15% Moldovan men and kids, and 5% Turks (plus me). I'd come along the coast from Fethiye (Patara, Kas, etc.) and not hit a lot of the "ghetto" resort towns that are popular with upper-class Eastern Europeans, so I was shocked at the Antalya airport to be waiting in a lounge FULL of tall, slim, beautiful blonde women. Ever since then I've always told all the men I meet that they should go to Moldova... and arriving from Antalya seems like a smart option. You'd be encountering the cream of Moldova's crop on your flight into the country and could certainly hit them up for some local knowledge!

(Another amazing thing about that flight was the arrival in Chisinau... as our plane taxied down the runway towards the airport it was directed on the ground by a plump, middle-aged, bleach-blonde woman stuffed into a tiny floral tank top, denim miniskirt and cork wedge heels... not a safety vest in sight!)

So far I have been talking to quite a few from CS and they have been eager to respond. They seem to be dying to have visitors to their country. If anyone knows of any other websites to pipeline with let me know.

I'm eyeing Moldova (and neighboring Iasi, Romania) for June as well.

If anyone wants to meet up and join for a leg of the journey, let me know.

But at the end of the day, I am a weak man and I may just give into my Slavic urges and go for Belarus & Poland instead.

Well, not so. Chisinau is on the "sex-tourism map" since a loooooong time now. I remember the first time I was there (2005) I already found that the number of italian, turk, ect sex-weaned tourists was ridiculous. Citi disco, Nostalgie bar, Jumbo Mall food court, Citi Mall cafes, ect were literally swarming with this type of guys.

Already at this era, a foreigner was necessarilly suspect of being a sex-tourist, or at least of being someone to be hugely suspicious of. It's even worse now. And no need to say to the girls "I'm here for the culture" or such BS. Moldovian girls are not naive and they know the deal. They perfectly know that you are there to try fuck them.

That said, I've always had a blast in Chisinau.

Just so you know in case you travel to Moldova and just in case some of you believe that Romanian and Moldovan were separate languages, as of yesterday, the official language of The Republic of Moldova is ROMANIAN, the Moldovan language has suddenly disappeared, it has only been an unsuccessful attempt by the Russians to try and separate Romania and Moldova from a language standpoint. In fact the language spoken in Romania and Moldova has been the same all along, just that in the Republic of Moldova and in the Moldova area of Romania, the Romanian language is spoken with a Russian accent. So one less language to learn for some of you, the "Moldovan" language is now extinct, the decision to accept that The Republic of Moldova's official language is Romanian is permanent and there can not be any sort of appeal against Moldova's Constitutional Court's decision. But of course, the Russian language is still largely spoken in The Republic of Moldova even if it's not an official language. In the Moldova area of Romania though, we don't speak Russian, we don't even know Russian.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/12/05/...-flavored/

Recently, an association agreement between the EU and Moldova has been signed at the Vilnius Summit and the obvious future goals of Moldova are to enter the EU, then Schengen and to be reunited with Romania.
Ukraine has not signed the association agreement with the EU but this week there have been street riots with hundreds of thousands of participants in response to this decision, to which the police responded violently. Russia (or rather Putin) will obviously do everything in its power to not let Ukraine join the EU.
