Fucking them on a bed of rose petals...

Trader Joes was selling a dozen red roses for $12.50. No big deal.

They got put in a vase on her dining table. Which we admired while eating dinner, which she made.

We could have put rose petals on the bed ...but who wants to shred perfectly good flowers into petals?

I buy girls flowers sometimes. I buy flowers for my own home sometimes. Because at Trader Joes they're damn affordable. They have bouquets for $3.99. Just take the friggin' price tag off first before giving them as a gift. (It's even perforated so the price is easy to remove)

Restaurants: Overpriced, and hell to get reservations.
Chocolates: Hell no.
Valentine cards: No.
Ballons: Trashy. Immediately marks you as low class.
Stuffed Animals: Even more low class.
Flowers: If reasonably priced and nice looking, yes. Over $20, nope, since then you risk looking like a try-hard. If you're not sure if she has a flower vase, they have plenty of them used at Salvation Army for 50¢.

I am an advocate of affordable flowers and a simple meal at home on Valentine's Day.

That's also part of the problem with Valentine's Day. Roses from Trader Joe's also can mark you as cheap. And chicks can tell if you payed full ride at the florist, or got them from a grocery store or deli. If you're in a relationship, chicks WANT you to try hard on VDay.

They think they want you to try hard. But when a guy actually does, they find out they don't.

Trying hard is putting pussy on a pedestal. Trying hard puts her over you, as if you're not worthy. And when you place yourself below her, you suddenly become beta and not interesting. It's one of the contradictions we run into in the female mind all the time.

I walked in with flowers with complete insouciance. Because buying them wasn't weird or unusual for me. They were just a nice small thing I do from time to time. If I were to go into an elderly ramble, I could say I grow roses in my own garden, I know how to judge a good rose, and inspecting these in person, these were a good roses. I looked through a few at the stand and found a bunch I liked. It's a hell of a lot better quality than what FTD florists and 1-800-flowers throws at your door as they drive by.

As to girls knowing the difference, they don't. Here in San Francisco all flowers go through the San Francisco Flower Mart and one's the same as the other. The only difference is the packaging the final retailer uses.

Now I could have bought a 50¢ flower vase, a sheet of green florist paper, and gussied up my $12.50 bouquet to look like a $75.00 bouquet from a florist shop. I purposely didn't.

Small gifts on Valentine's Day are fun. Large ones that overvalue her and inflate her ego to the size of the Hindenburg... are the mark of doom.

"Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

I get flowers at Trader Joes or other supermarket and remove all the wrapping before presenting. They always look nicer that way.

If you like a girl and she takes care of you and does nice things for you regularly and you want to keep her around you should do a nice gesture now and again. Doesn't matter if it's V Day or not, but small things can go a long way. Like a note under her pillow outlining the depraved things you'll do to her.

Giving gifts works the same way as buying girls drinks. As long as you do it from a position of strength and it doesn't look like you're trying to buy her affections it's at worst neutral. So noobs shouldn't do it but more seasoned players can safely do it.
