Is Steven Seagal really that good in fighting?

I think if we take this discussion out of the realm of "who's toughest" or "who's bigger with more muscles" and more into which fighting discipline you think is more effective, it makes more sense. All of the men we've mentioned are highly-trained in their respective disciplines, and I think we can take for granted that none of them are pussies. No matter how big and strong a man is, he has spots on his body that are vulnerable. Brute strength isn't the only deciding factor in any fight. Yeah, you probably don't want the bigger, stronger man to get his hands on you, or get in a clean strike to the jaw. But there's more to fighting than height/strength/size. Someone mentioned Bruce Lee? Well, he was a tiny wisp of a man, but quick and tensil strong.

Chuck Zito was Mickey Rourke's trainer, he is one of the toughest men alive, so I couldn't possibly think how Norris can beat Zito in a street fight. As for Seagal v Norris, do you honestly expect a 5'9 martial artist to beat a 6'5 martial artist? Chuck Norris is no Bruce Lee.

Freddie Roach was Mickey Rourke's trainer when he was a professional

Trust me on this one.

I think Zito was Rourke's bodyguard.

Rourke boxed as a youth as well.

Guys no offense to Zito, but saying you're Rourke's boxing coach is nothing to be proud of. They were pulling bums off the street to fight him and he was still losing.

Wait...we're talking about the actor right?

Yeah the actor.

Rourke actually went undefeated.

And won over a million in the ring.

Granted he was in his late 30's I think when he fought pro, and I am sure he would be the first to tell you his comp wasn't that great. The fact that he fought is respected in my book.

However, like I said before, he was a boxer as a kid as well.

But yeah, Zito wasn't his trainer as a pro. It was Freddie Roach.

G, I stand corrected then. I was always told the opposite about Rourke. Props to anyone that steps in the ring/cage imo.

No sweat amigo.

I actually looked it up to be sure: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_i...&cat=boxer

My friends and I hung out at The 3 Clubs in Hollywood when I was a youth, which is right near The Wildcard Gym. I boxed there a number of times. Although at that time of my life I was way more focused on partying, surfing and girls.

I met Rourke then, and Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and a bunch of other cats. I was pretty young.

Don't quote me on this one, but I also think Rourke boxed as a youth at The 5th Street Gym in Miami, which is a place I love now.

Anyways, I am out. Time to go swoop!

Man G, the 3 Clubs brings back some memories.. I used to hang there back in 99. We might have crossed paths.. I had some epic nights there.

There weren't too many surfers hanging out there.. maybe some posers, but not real ones.

If you are going to talk about these jokers, can we bring David "Kung Fu" Carradine and Pat "Mr. Miyagi" Morita into the discussion? Maybe we should include Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill too.

Come on, Seagall and Norris have no sanctioned professional fights. Don't get me started on their acting ability.

Are you kidding me? Chuck Norris's martial arts record is spot on 183–10–2, and he is a Tae Kwon Do Grandmaster, and Seagal on the other hand is a master of Akido.

Funny story I heard about Seagal on Howard Stern:

Seagal: I just read...the greatest script ever...

Friend: Really? Who wrote it?

Seagal: I did.

Chuck Norris was a legit martial arts practitioner before Hollywood. But come on, I don't think there is such a thing as a "professional" karate fighter. Norris had almost 200 fights because he entered amateur tournaments. He surely did not defeat 183 opponents who made their living from prizefighting!

Seagal married into a Japanese Aikido family and quickly aspired to movies. His record is the same as Pat Morita's: 0-0.

I recall a funny interview with the late Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee). The interview asked him whether he studied the acting of his predecessors like Chuck Norris. Lee was appropriately appalled, because he tried to emulate great actors like Marlon Brando.

How dare you speak about Chuck Norris in such a way.

It's only reliable to measure Seagal's ability as a fighter when he is compared to arguably the best fighter in the history of the world, aka Chuck Norris.

And with regards to Roosh vs Roissy.

Roosh is a tall guy so would have a good reach, he would keep Roissy away with lots of jabs and a few lead rights to keep him on his toes.

It would be a war of attrition as Roissy would have to keep coming on the inside and absorb Roosh's jabs and crosses until he was worn out. Roosh would take lots of bodyshots and frequently resort to clinches to nullify Roissy's constant pressure. Roosh would finish him in the 10th.

I'm not bashing Norris, I just don't get (although im not surprised) why other names start being thrown in in a thread thats clearly about Seagal.

No sweat man, I'm only fooling around [Image: smile.gif]

With regards to Roosh vs Roissy MMA.

Roosh's reach and boxing skills proved too much for Roissy in the first bout.

Whilst in Brazil Roosh learnt BJJ and Sistema in EE.

His Western Boxing skills combined with BJJ make him an almost unstoppable MMA fighter.

However it's the area between stand up fighting and getting down and dirty on the floor where Roissy has the drop on Roosh - clinches.

Roissy is an excellent wrestler and manages to avoid a flurry of Roosh punches in the first few rounds and come inside and get him in a hold.

The first few rounds Roosh keeps him away, weary of him. He even managed to get on top of him at one point and hit him in the face, but Roissy covered up well.

In the second Roissy charges at him from the start, Roosh is caught unawares. Roissy grapples with him and body slams him against the fence, whilst on the floor Roissy goes straight for the arm bar. Roosh tries to counter and wriggle out of it, but his attempts are in vain, as Roissy maintains him in a vice like grip.

Roosh taps out after 30 seconds.
