I ran into them in Turkey and Morocco but only in certain areas like transport hubs, big shopping areas and major tourist sites.
They seemed to be everywhere. Hell, even regular Joes would try something once they confirmed your were a tourist.
The post above me is probably more accurate now. When I went it was a regular shithole not a super dangerous one.
