If I drink two beers on a completely empty stomach, I experience about 15-30 minutes of blissful silence. For NPCs, it turns off their insecurity and allows them to be more "social". If you don't have social insecurities, alcohol actually makes you less social because it slows down your brain.

Unfortunately, alcohol has many side effects, so I see it as short-term "chemical meditation" instead of a permanent solution. When I don't want to feel its effects as strongly, I drink on a full stomach.
