I'd add that you should also consider proximity to different parts of the world for travel, assuming the future you start to earn some money and can afford to do so. Flying in Canada is not cheap like you said, so it's also a factor to be closer to your region of preference.
Vancouver -> Closer to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, SEA, etc etc if you want to get your yellow fever on
MTL / TO -> Closer to Europe, Russia for the euro babes, a whole of other cool places like North Africa / the Middle East / Central Asia etc.
The East Coast will have slightly cheaper and shorter flights to LatAm, but not by much.
This will potentially save you thousands of dollars in flight costs and hundreds of hrs in-flight time over the years, so choose wisely.
