Nike knows their market: mostly young, left-leaning, rootless cosmopolitans. These people aren't offended by Colin Kaepernick; they admire him. By purchasing Nike products, they can make a risk-free political statement and fit in with the cool kids.
Nike made a well-calculated decision to chase that market and cede the older, more conservative, and rural markets to competitors like New Balance and Under Armor. The people crying about Nike's support of Kaepernick weren't buying Nike products anyway, so it was a win-win for Nike.
I detest Kaepernick, but this was a very shrewd move on Nike's part.
