Further to SG-1, it did have a strong female character in Samantha Carter. But she was action-oriented, no real focus on feelings and feeling development except you saw the under-current for her love of O'Neil, both as a man and leader. 3 men, 1 woman. They did it with Atlantis and it worked.
They went for Stargat galaxy or w.e it was and went with bullshit mini-stories of people you didn't care about. No central male lead role was available, angst ridden men and women were the order of the day. Any strong character was demonised.
