Yeah, showing up at temple would definitely be a rookie mistake. It's not like church, which is basically open to the public. These cats are insular. I have this picture in my head of super-Latin-looking dude dipping his hand in somebody's water glass, kneeling, and doing the sign of the cross--like the good Catholic you probably are--and getting kicked-the-fuck-out.
You want to find them out and about to start.
My sense is that Jewish girls like Latin guys that can dial down the "Latin" factor a bit. If you're a hardcore Latino brother, with an untempered Hispanic vibe, you're going to seem too foreign.
