But mostly these phrases are just verbal signals parroted without consideration to indicate membership in the "club" - they don't actually mean anything, they're simply magic words and verbal formulas which demonstrate one's standing with the moral and intellectual elect. Just think of all the try-hards you've encountered online whose utterances and hashtag-level arguments seem to be the product of a challenge to cram all the jargon they know into as few words as they can while making as little sense as possible.
Of course, whatever the speakers think they're accomplishing with its use, this empty jargon serves the rest of us as a useful and reliable indicator that we're dealing either with a con artist or a moron.
