They turn to consumerism to satisfy the desires created by marketers and finance their purchases. Success seems ever around the corner, and choice addiction ensues, with so many options around.

But what does this mean for second and third-tier cities, small towns, and villages? The best and brightest pursue the rewards capitalism offers in the big cities. Network effects of industry experts create disproportionate gains for cities ahead of the curve...
