I was playing the new(ish) Tomb Raider the other day, it's really good. Anyway, I was thinking, feminists always hold up Lara Croft as one of the few positive female characters in games. Why? The usual...intelligent, independent and what not. They also fail to mention she's always been drawn and depicted to be very attractive...and thin. Unlike most feminists.
Of course Feminists love her. Play the first few games again:
- child of privilege living on daddy's money
- educated ie: 'intelligent'
- sarcastic
- ice queen
- don't need no man
- every man in the game belittles her for being a woman and makes sexually-threatening remarks showing that they're all just rapists
- can beat up men, despite her small size
I can easily imagine her with an American Accent and a major in Womyn's Studies. But even ugly women fantasise about being beautiful, because they know the power beauty holds.
