Yugoslavian M59 SKS. Uses 7.62x39, so the ammo is cheap as hell. Super-simple mechanism so you can take it apart and put it back together in a couple minutes. They tend to be in great shape because most of them just sat around in cosmoline since the 50s.

The SKS was my "gateway" gun.
At the time, you could buy an SKS for $139 at a gun show.
They are fun to shoot and are reliable.
From there it was MAK-90s. (You couldn't buy AK-47s anymore; this was post-assualt weapons ban.)
There's nothing that says, "America: Fuck Yeah!" like putting a 50 round drum on an AK and blasting away.

I used to have a Glock 17 before switching to the 19. I attended a 3 day pistol class in SoCal last year and had to bring CA-legal 10 round mags rather than the standard capacity 17 round mags.
Everyone got real good at mag changes haha

Because I'm struggling to figure out the reason why after hearing that, I'm feeling like I'd rather get fucked in the ass by a Cape Buffalo than ever have to sit through dinner with you. Maybe you can figure it out for me. When you do, let me know. I'll be at Natasha's house."

SP5,
In addition to Daniel Defense, BCM makes good ARs as well.

Mak-90, thumb grip, with a drum mag. Like having two dicks.
M1 Carbines are pretty fun too - small round, light, compact, and great for hunting small game.

Now at home I keep it for self-defense, but follow Adam Carolla's advice---The first 2 rounds of the magazine are non-lethal training rounds. Then the rest are hollow point. Basically his point was this way in the case of accidental discharge or even intentional discharge to an intruder, the first two rounds *shouldn't* be lethal.
You need to take get some more training. Always shoot to kill. When I go to the range, it's headshots.

$1000 max.
Springfield Armory "Loaded" line. You can't go wrong. Avoid Colt, Kimber, S&W, Taurus.

Looks like Remington addressed your question about different Glock models.
If you need advice on starting a podcast or vintage cars, Carolla is an excellent source. However, his advice on firearms is fucking retarded, and I'm a huge fan of the Aceman.
If you need to fire your weapon, you're not gonna have time to fuck around racking the slide to get rid of the two training rounds that aren't going to do shit to save your life. As a civilian, if you choose draw your gun it's not to "scare" the intruder or fire warning shots or any of that shit. It's to stop the threat. Period. Training with that bullshit "strategy" in mind will get you killed. Why wouldn't you want an intentional discharge to an deadly threat to not be lethal? Jesus.
AliB is right, get some training from guys who have been in gunfights. PM me if you would like some info on places to find instructors, classes, etc.
