Finland / Norway or Ukraine ?
08-12-2013, 02:25 PM
I apologize if this has already been asked, but I did a search and couldn't find anything that directly addressed my question. I'm traveling around late October and want to do a trip to either Finland OR Ukraine. I'd be open to going to Norway instead of Finland.
My main criteria in deciding between the two are which one has the more enjoyable nightlife (when on a trip, I prefer to go out most nights of the week...the later and rowdier, the better), and which place has more women that are receptive to nightlife game. I'm more into bar / club hybrids than typical nightclubs. I don't speak Russian, but I plan on going to Kiev if I do go to Ukraine, so I don't anticipate that being a major issue. I understand that Finland would be much more expensive. There's no set time that I've given myself, though I think 2 weeks would be my max.

If you dont have particularly a taste and like just pretty girls with nice faces etc then go for Ukraine.
However if you are crazy about blondes/blue eyes (my case) rather head to Norway. Finnish women are not as nice as norwegian on average, lot of girls tend to be overweight there.
Also depends on your budget, Norway is european most expensive country meanwhile kiev is quite cheap compared western europe.

For Scandinavian countries age and look is important like GK mentions. For easier bang, you are looking at the 19-25 crowd, and I think you will have a hard time with good looking girls within that range if they sense you are above early 30's, max 35. If under, you can be ok. Also extremely different where you go in Scandnavia, i.e Helsinki and Oslo will be one thing with nice looking girls in numbers, but you can actually score way more and easier up north. Less girls in total, but completely different mentality, and being foreigner is definately a big plus in those cities. Late october will most likely be just as cold in Oslo/Helsinki/Kiev, coastal north Norway more or less the same, northern Finland coldest. Fresh students just getting warmed up in Tromso, north Norway, temp around +/-5 degC at that time, but dont expect wild parties outside thursday-saturday. Scandinavian nightlife usually shuts down at 03 or 04 in the morning if you enjoy running later you must find private afterparties. (Popular in Norway at least)
If you are a little adventourous try to go north, for price Kiev kills all those places, and it seems from reports on this forum that Oslo can be a hard nut to crack.

Finland for easiest bangs.
Ukraine for the bucks.
Norway for the hottest girls.
As a Finn I can assure you that foreign guys has a higher value among Finnish girls. Especially if you go out of Helsinki ( which you should).
But on the other hand I would go for Ukraine.
Your wallet will thank you.

I would agree with the opinions above in that the Nordic countries and particularly Finland are easy for ONS if you are under 35 and relatively good looking. Helsinki has great nightlife for a short stay and the girls love drinking and afterparties. Just make sure that you get a place that is 5 minutes walk maximum from Kamppi/Mikonkatu and have alcohol stocked so you can offer the "after party" solution.
In addition, Tallinn is 2 hours away by ferry but is only lively at the weekends. It's also possible to go to St. Petersburg by ferry without needing a visa for two nights.
However, if you are older, I would advise you to go to Kiev. For the hybrid places, I would recommend Petrovich, Dockers ABC, Art 44 or the Nurses bar. But I haven't been there in a year. Not sure if there are any newer places.

Excellent advice. Thanks guys. I think I'm going to do Finland this time, wallet be damned. Ukraine is a long-term visit it seems.

Out of curiosity, why not any of the other EE countries? You picked one of the most expensive places on Earth (norway), an expensive country not known for the hottest girls but on the easy side (Finland) and a country that has a steep learning curve (Ukraine). What about Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, etc.? In my opinion, you get a combination of better looks and cheaper prices.
