Any of you guys heard of asmallworld.net or internations.org?

They are both very different.

I just got invited to asmallworld.net from an existing member. This guy is a widely traveled playboy who lived in Australia for five years as well as Malta and Argentina. He was telling me it's easier to get in now as opposed to before, but that it's still invite only. I'm not able to start inviting people yet but apparently even celebs have a hard time getting into this group.

It's a pretty good site. There's a lot of ballers and high end chicks. There's forums, apartment rentals, job opportunities, and events. You can also contact members directly and see who's in a city during the dates you will be there. The geographic presence of members are in all of the top world cities, which includes DC actually. I even recognized an elite Colombian guy who knows my friend Eros International in NYC. According to the site's twitter page, ASW is a private international community of culturally influencial people who are connected by three degrees.

This is some intel on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASmallWorld

Another site is Internations.org which is more professional than social. You meet professionals, students and expats in different cities around the world. They have a basic membership and paying membership. If you run a basic membership then you should try to switch to facebook/e-mail contact after speaking with a member you want to meet.

sounds interesting, just tagging this thread so I can read up later. I'm on the lookout for Croat stuff, I've already pipelined a dozen but want to see if there's possibility of finding good apartments (not limited to airbnb) and short term work (as croat permits are hard to come by until EU entry)

Most of the apartments listed for rent in ASW are in London.

I'm on asmallworld.net too. Well I have been a member for 3-4 years now.

There are few members events where I live but I see there are a lot in London, LA, NYC etc... So can be usefull for guys living there.

Usually on the front page you can see girls who are going to visit your city, they leave a message like "I will be in Madrid from 11/2 to 15/2". I then click on their names and send my typical email "TO DO LIST". Most of them answer back to thank me for the advice and then I try to organize a meet up [Image: smile.gif]

How has that worked out for you? I'm impressed by the quantity of quality chicks on there. If anything, I'd definitely pick their brain for bar or nightlife recs when I visit their city.

It's definitely something I have to try more but it would require some time that I don't have.

So far I had a few couple of notches using this method. But the good thing is you just have to prepare a datasheet once and you can then copy paste to various girls updating it sometimes.
My datasheet would require more time and more effort.

The quality is indeed impressive (8 and above) but I didn't manage to close at this level (mine were more 7s).

I enjoy the internations meetups, I've met some interesting folks. I don't bother with the online components, I only use it to keep track of meetups. My local internations group consists mostly of diplomatic staff, I enjoy their ability to nonchalantly open you and then engage in idle chit-chat. I think it's part of diplomatic work culture.

Yeah I've been to some embassy related events in DC. Chill people but nothing really for pick up. It's cool for networking but nothing beyond that. I wouldn't join internations for chicks.

I've been on ASW for a year or so.

I agree with the others that it is very big city centric.

Have not yet gotten a flag from there yet, but do see potential with more use/experimentation.

I'm on both ASW and Internations.

ASW is great as Julio mentioned for the geotracker, you can literally screen the girls coming into town. I've been pretty lazy with it but might ramp it up fairly soon as a buddy has demonstrated using it to great effect in NYC. Went to an event in London once that was pretty well stocked with above average girls (if a bit of the try-hard variety) and a lot of guys trying to look like their net worth is bigger than it is. Nonetheless, most of the people that show up are younger ambitious guys or mid-30s guys trying to showboat their success, so a decent crowd from a networking standpoint. The forums and classifieds are of a little value if you're in London or NYC but pretty useless otherwise. My verdict: could be great if you're willing to put in a moderate amount of effort and you live in a 1st tier world city - but the same is true for building up your network without ASW. Just another tool/avenue.

Internations is great for people that have just moved to a new city and are looking to make other expat friends and nightlife buddies. There are usually quite a few locals that are wanting to meet expats or friends of people that already go to the meetings. All in all, lots of interesting people and definitely worth going to a meeting to check it out, especially if you're new in town. Internations is much better for 2nd-3rd tier world cities like Bangkok (strong presence there), Bogota, etc. and not so much for your NYC, London etc. where "expat" isn't really anything special.

Great analysis Trey. Yeah, that's the impression I'm getting from ASW. The folks that want to see and be seen but are genuinely making power moves as well. Seems like a place where ballers go to hunt for chicks.

I just joined internations about two weeks ago. Small world indeed.

If you are going to impose your will on the world, you must have control over what you believe.

I've been a paid member of internations for awhile. The info I get from it is well worth it. I cruise the member profiles to see who they work for, then cross reference on those company webpages to see if they are hiring in my skill set.

Haven't been to a meetup, but I see in cities I go many beta orbiters and some hot foreign/local broads on the pics. I think a guy with game could cleanup.

The information on housing is gold, as is general information you won't find or can't trust on other internet resources.

Speakeasy - ASW has closed enrolment for new members since March 1st. They haven't announced as to how long they will keep that policy in effect.

Is anyone from DC in ASW going to the party they're having tomorrow night? It's ticket-invitation only and I was lucky to get mine right before they ran out.

I just met up with the first person I have met off the site. Amazing contact. This chick travels more than me and will be in a lot of the same places I'm going this year at the same damn time. Looking forward to meeting more people at the event tomorrow.

Looks like ASW has completely revamped its community and business model.

I think they should charge a higher subscription...like at least $300/year. Also they should let me join. According to the article, ASW has 850,000 members. That seems like a lot.

Yeah $105 is not exactly "exclusive." I'm not sure if I'll make the cut. They are going to cut the community from 850K members to 250K members using a "secret algorithm."

So far none of the DC members I've spoken with have been able to log into their accounts.

If I make the cut and get any invites I'll send them to some folks here (Speakeasy, Menace, etc).

Thanks HC for posting this, it sounds interesting.

But has anybody actually gotten a job from internations.org? Significant business contact?

Looking on their website, it seems like more of an expat social community site than a business networking site.

What's the difference between paid and free membership?

How is this different from Linkedin? I could also do a search there to find work in my field. Is the difference a higher standard for members? Because otherwise Linkedin would have a big advantage due to larger membership. You can also cross-reference for your alma mater with Linkedin, making it easier to contact alumni of your school at companies you're interested in.

In DC the events are full of World Bank people. So if you want a job there, I would say it's key because there is no way to get into the WB without first knowing someone who works there.
