I am extremely interested in this thread. I met a few Moldovan models in NYC. They were broke villagers on temporary visas. Incredibly hot, best looking EE girls I've seen. Big natural tits. Amazing. Perfect tens.

How livable is the city? The per capita GDP is low. Is there a black market economy? Can you get a really nice, furnished home for cheap? Is there work there? English schools? Can you score good pot?

I can't speak to "broke villagers", but I can tell you that there is a program called "school, work, travel" (I'm paraphrasing) that is a goal of many young Moldovans. Basically, if they can pass the nazi-inspired "interview" with the pukes at the Embassy they can score an extended trip to Amerika for work/play and a little school. As a gringo, this makes my stomach turn regarding our regular treatment of visitors, but lest I digress.....my guess is that these women were in the US on this program.

The city is certainly "livable", but I would only recommend it for seasoned travelers. Its rough, and gritty. Forget the GDP number, unless you plan on getting married and living on a farm - Chisinau is certainly cheap, but nothing like the $2200usd GPD number that the CIA is pushing. Forget about working; a good/decent wage for local professional is $400 usd/month and that don't leave much for English lessons. If you don't have or can't generate $1000/month on your own, head elsewhere. If you can make an investment of time (a few months) and have a few bucks to blow, you could do A LOT of damage there. Absolutely gorgeous (and nice) women. Don't have a clue on pot.

It is mutually exclusive for a city anywhere in the world to have both an abundance of good jobs, and really nice cheap homes.

I would say that half of the people under 30 speak at least some English. Learning English is clearly the thing to do these days in this part of the world. With the people that came of age in the Soviets times - 30+, its certainly less. A lot of women need to be "coaxed" to speak English, as is the case in much of the world, but the language issue wouldn't keep me away knowing what I now know.

Seems a few members are heading out that way in the next few weeks so hopefully there will be some updated info dropped. I was going through a messy divorce when I last hit Moldova ( 2009 ) so my judgement of the place was clouded by my pissed off mood at that time. I thought it was a dusty shit hole with average women and shit food. After reading your experiences Lost Gringo I'm going to have to return there later in the year to give it another try. I do remember a couple of brief highlights from my trip that give me hope of it being worth a return.

Btw,I saw earlier in the thread that you mentioned the idea of staying at the Hotel Cosmos. I stayed there and it was awful! The rooms are unchanged since Soviet times,the breakfast was literally inedible and the bar on one of the upper floors was a hangout for the local haggard prostitutes. Stay for one night for the experience but then go somewhere better. Trust me.

Same here. Looks like best way to get there is a cheap (low cost) flight to bucharest, rest by train. Since this is outside EU territory, direct flights might cost you five times more.

hotels are expensive, so get an apartment right away

and food in stores is downright inedible...stick to the farmer's market. cheaper, healthier, and delicious. People in the West pay exorbitant sums for raw milk dairy, garden produce, free range eggs, and natural local honey....but it all costs pennies here

are you better off going there and looking for an apartment or booking one prior to going? I'm looking online and the prices seem inflated for what they're offering but not sure if my inability to speak the language would make it really tough to find one on the ground.

I paid $200 and it turned out to be a code-share using LH aircraft. The same flight on LH was $300. They had just stared a weekly Paris operation that was pretty reasonable.

If you plan on arriving via Odessa on the train, be advised that is passes through Transnistra and there have been visa hassles reported. Check for the latest on that.

Moldova can be grim and quite fucked up. I would guess that it is appropriate for less than 5% of the readers of this forum. An acquired taste that requires patience and a taste for the bizarre.

from odessa , you got electrica and buses in addition to train. Take the buses or marshukas that bypass Transnistra. takes like 5 hours and is cheap.

I was about to click "Book" on a flight to Moldova some time ago, but then I changed my mind and went to Bucharest instead - which was fantastic, but not easy.

Moldovan girl gives a sense of Eastern Europe with her singing abilities.

Just googling the city and apartments gives tons of hits.... 500 Euro seems about the norm for a 1 bedroom furnished which is what you mentioned. That's online though and I imagine it could be cheaper once in the city. I do feel that this is a bit much though for a place like this.

300 USD per month for a long term apartment rental sounds reasonable, considering its the capital. Just pick up a local newspaper and start calling a bunch of advertised rentals. Find someone who speaks the language to help. Perhaps pipeline girls and get them to help find an apartment...or stay at a hotel for a couple days until you meet someone.
