The guy probably didn't even read the book, that's what is fucked up. What is with people leaving REVIEWS, and just bashing a book they have never read? Stupid fucks.

Very typical that this "review" just showed up after I mentioned the site on this forum. I guess I have start choosing my battles on this forum since i'm an easy mark this way.
A shame that it has to go like this. Trashing a man's book because you don't agree with each other on a online forum is a very low blow in my opinion. I'll try to contact B & N to get this hater crap removed.

I'm withdrawing from a few discussions on this forum.

The version where I did a big re-edit myself came out about 10 days ago. But according to a poster here there are still some errors left in the book.
A well respected forum member volunteered to proofread and grammar edit the book for me so i'll have to wait his answer.

If I/anyone were to buy the ebook version now,
Would we get the reviewed/revised version when it finally gets updated?

Of course a book like this will never be finished. Even if all spelling errors were to be taken out, there would still be people who would want to edit the story, leave parts out or add other parts. One could say there's not enough traveling in the book or another would say there's too much sex in it.

Look at the rates for profesional editing at Createspace publishing:

Basic Copyediting
Fine-tune your manuscript's technical elements with a round of editing focused on grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
2340 dollars for my book

Comprehensive Copyediting
Refine the stylistic and technical elements of your manuscript, including grammar, spelling organization, and tone, with an in-depth and thorough review from a professional editor.
3120 dollar for my book

Comprehensive Copyediting Plus
Strengthen your manuscript's overall composition and correct technical elements; this service is well suited for first-time authors, and non-native English speakers.
4290 dollars for my book

https://www.createspace.com/pub/services...PUBLISHING

You see that option 3 would probably be best and leave an excellent reading book. It would also mean that I have to sell at least 600 ebooks or almost a 1000 paperbacks just to break even on the editing.

That's a huge gamble to take.

Sure it's possible to edit it cheaper somewhere else but I just cant afford anything at this moment and I wonder if the niche market is big enough to ever make that money back. I'll be happy to invest this money once I sign a movie contract [Image: king.gif]

To answer your question. Yes, i'll be happy to provide anyone an edited copy of an ebook because i do want the best for my readers. All it takes is proof of purchase and date by email.

Neil i think youre shooting yourself in the foot by not editing the book properly.
Because you got a good product but in the current form its packaged shitty.

Like roosh said over time you will get bad reviews and they will affect your sales. I finished your book and wont even write a review on amazon bc in its current form i would have to give it less stars for all the mistakes in it. And i dont wanna leave a bad or average review i wanna give you 4 or 5 stars for the book! But with the current form i cant give you more than 3 stars because its full of mistakes.

If i was you i would cough up the money somehow, get some professional editing done and then promote the shit out of that book. You gotta spend money to make money.

No one is forced to write reviews on Amazon and i'm not asking for 5 star reviews. I ask people to judge the book on content not on grammar. Besides that I think your overreacting the grammar part. I have already verified that you have the latest version and it can't be full of mistakes. Sure, there will be some mistakes and maybe a lot more than in a fully edited book by a professional publisher but I think you're being to hard now.

I think you're wrong here Neil, when you buy a book through a professional marketplace you don't expect it to be full of spelling mistakes and grammar errors. Your book costs the same as any book from a professional author so why should the reader make allowances for this and not mention it in a review?

I haven't read your book so maybe there are not as many as people say but you're not a native English speaker so it stands to reason that you will miss a lot of the mistakes.

If you go through freelancing sites you should be able to find something reasonable, I imagine someone working full time could do it in close to a week. Just post an ad up and quote the price that you're willing to pay and see what kind of replies you get.

You could even be sneaky and state in your add that for the right candidate there will be regular work and tell them there is a test. For everyone who applies send them ten pages to edit. If you had forty people applying that's your whole book edited for free.

Lots of forum posters have told me how much they enjoyed the book on the forum as well in private messages.
I'm not gonna take a loan to edit my book because ONE person complains about the errors. The sneaky idea for editing sounds good but for now i'm mainly focusing on other things.

Neil, you keep quoting these PROFESSIONAL companies prices to edit your book, but you are not a PROFESSIONAL author. You don't need to go that route.

I've said it before, go to oDesk. I can damn near guarantee you that there is some stay at home mom with an English degree, or some 22 year old journalism student, who would do it for $150.

What 19-22 year old male Journalism/English major wouldn't want to edit and read your book for a couple bills?

It doesn't need to be perfect, just decent. You don't need the professional company for this. Some English major can do a fine enough job for 1/10th of the price.

If you have no money, put it on a credit card. I strongly believe you are going to regret not doing it. And I seriously believe you can do it much cheaper than what you quote. Check oDesk and Elance, I bet you can get it done for less than $200.

I checked elance and they work on a hourly basis for at least 20 bucks an hour.

A couple of things

- I worked on this book for many months and have recently edited it again costing me another 100 hour week.
- The book is being re-edited by an forum member as we speak to take out the left over errors.
- I have zero dollars to spend on editing.

According to what you told me i got the new version.
And im really not being hard here. If i was being hard on you i would give you a bad review and ask for a refund.

Im actually really fucking nice because im going out of my way here to try to give you valuable feedback. I could simply not give a fuck and move on with my life.

YES im admittedly pedantic about spelling and grammar when i read something. That does not change the fact that your book is full of errors. And i mean really full with them. You spelled "excite" wrong throughout the entire book. Sometimes there are multiple errors on one single page. This shit is simply not acceptable for a professional product.

If you dont listen to me then listen to Roosh, he should know what hes talking about.

The market wont give a shit if you dont have money for professional editing or how many hours put in. All they care about is getting a quality product.

I see it more like a great song that is recorded/produced poorly, but is still a great song. It may not sound the best it could, but the heart and soul of the performer is still there.

I've read 50% of the book so far, and it's great (as far as travel guides go). The spelling errors are plentiful, but they never betray the enthusiasm of the creator.

But obviously that's just my opinion.

You will get more favorable revies from people here because we know you and like your prima donna antics. People who don't know you will slag the book if it has so many errors. I have bought books from professional authors that cost just as much as yours.

Christ Neil, use your head here. You've got a ton of eager native english speakers right here on this forum. Why don't you give away 5 or 10 free copies of your book in exchange for editing the freaking book? It's 468 pages. Each person can do about 70 pages or so.

BOOM! That only cost you $49!

If that doesn't work, toss in $25 to $50 per person to edit the book, and split it into 5 parts to edit.

This is like making a movie, putting on DVD and having people complain that the camera shakes too much....

Editing isn't just about correcting grammar. It's more about bringing out the essence of the book and cutting whatever isn't necessary. If the book is 400 pages, u can guarantee theres a lot that can be cut. Be concise!

Your English actually is excellent for a non native speaker, but that's not the point. An author needs an outside eye to review his work and dispassionately cut whatever doesn't add value. We all get too defensive of our own creations to dispassionately edit them

The level of the editing is up to you. If you're not trying to be the next Dickens, take rionomad's excellent idea and hire a student cheap. If the forum member editing your book is in the industry, great, if not, consider taking the edited version to others as well.

But saying you spent months on a book doesn't impress. Real Authors spend decades studying and perfecting their craft, and years on each book, plus work with pro editors. 'high literature' may not have been your purpose here, but there's a lot of room to improve if you want to make something of this . There's a world of difference between a collection of blog posts and a book

Hey Neil,
I just spent 6 months editing alone and hired two editors for my book, a hard editor (a friend who's a playwrite) and a professional copy editor (recommend by Roosh) and let me tell you, It's 100% worth it.

I was SHOCKED at how much changes these guys make- not just grammer, but everything form sentence structure to more effective words/phrase to big cuts to the tiniest minute detail. By book was improved 200% by these guys.

Like yourself, I also was a bit strapped for cash, so I paid between 50-100 USD every week and worked on it chapter by chapter with them. You can pay for a few chapter very month or just when you actually have the cash. It wasn't cheap, but it was money well spent and will pay off big in the long run. If you're willing to drop 300 bucks on a fancy cover, you should be willing to invest on the actual content - and trust me, there's a big difference between a professional copyeditor and a proofreader.

Now my book is ALL KILLER and NO FILLER, well written, and without mistakes. I'm proud of it. So seriously consider a professional if you mean business. (For those who are interested, the Naughty Nomad book comes out next Wed, Aug 1st.)

I will buy the book when you confirm the new editing is done. It would really frustrate me to read a book full of spelling and grammar mistakes and I wouldn't be able to do it justice in my review.

Keep us updated please.

Changing the subject to something more entertaining than spelling. The spelling doesn't bother me, because the content is great!

I have a few questions:

What is "travel site"? couch surfing or what?

What is the “player site”?

Did you use some dating sites for pipelining in Latin America?

In South America, you went all the way north to Cali, Columbia. Why did your retrace you same route back south all the way back into Bolivia? Was it for Evita and other pussy? Why did you not go into Columbia, then into Brazil and down the Amazon. How expensive are flights within S. America?

I admire your stamina for Game! I noticed at the end of your book you have some interesting statistics: like how many over-night buses you on, how many girls you banged. Do you have any idea how many girls you contacted through dating sites that flaked. How many approaches before you got one interested? Number of girls you kissed that didn't go to sex. Which country is S. America was the most difficult to meet local girls. Do you have rating of S. American countries of hardest to easiest to get laid, etc. Thanks!

The book was 20 U$D, but what the hell! I figured it's well spent money!

Travel site is indeed Couchsurfing but I didn't want to write it in full since I don't know the legal consequences.

Player site = Roosh forum but I had already mentioned Roosh quite a few times in the book.

I didn't use any other sites then CS in Latin america or anywhere else in the world. I used Tagged with very bad results in the Philippines and stopped using it afterwards.

I retraced my steps from Cali because i still had to visit Bolivia again ( and see the countryside) and Paraguay,Uruguay and south of Brazil. I had my mind set on visiting every country in South America and had to take a few drastic steps to make that happen. I didn't fly at all in SA, I did everything by bus. I remember flights being quite expensive withing south america. I travel on the fly so I can only book one week ahead.

I'll answer the other questions tomorrow. I need to get some sleep. I have a (very shitty) job now and need to get up early.
