Who's everyone picking for tonight's big fight? I'll never bet against JBJ, but if anyone has a chance, it's Gustafsson. It seems Jones' height, reach, striking and takedowns are just too much for anyone to handle, but Gus is able to largely negate those advantages. I'm picking Jones by decision but I imagine it'll be a close contest.

Who thought Nunes would do this??

Jones is just a picogram above the rest.

Honestly, the fight sucked. Imagine going through all this trouble of switching locations from Vegas to LA, disappointing tons of fans and ripping off their wallets, for it to end so quickly. Gustafsson seemed way better and aggressive in the 2013 fight when he was an underdog and had a lot to prove. Seems to me like these fighters nowadays already established some kind of fame and are getting too comfortable sitting on a pile of money, therefore don't really care about the outcome of the fights anymore. They're not hungry.

This portrait UFC paints every big title fight, with the good vs evil scenario, the loud vs quiet, the hero vs villain (see Khabib vs McGregor, Jones vs Gustafson, DC vs Jones) etc, seems to me like a fake market stunt to bring in more viewers. And that's fine, but it rarely lives up to the hype anymore. It's all about money nowadays in the combat sports world.

Take a look of the most recent example of Wilder vs Fury. What a joke draw decision. It's in their favor to pull that stunt because of their contracts saying there must be a rematch. And guess what that means? Big $$$$ on the line and who doesn't like money? The fight of the night was Nunes vs Cyborg if anything. Nunes destroyed the 20-1 champ like it was nothing. Flashback to when she destroyed Ronda Rousey in UFC 207. This girl is scary... up and coming for a long time.

And the case about Jon Jones juicing, come on now... 90% of the top athletes in professional combat sports take PED's. He was just stupid enough to get caught. He's a legend, imagine what kind of pressure he must have gone through with a shit storm and everyone hating him, media, rumors etc and he still managed to come on top. Not a fan of him, but this guy stayed positive throughout. No pun intended he he.

Of course, he took Turinabol, you'd be a fool to believe he is clean. But the thing with Jones is that he's a poster boy for ufc. He's been the face of ufc for many years prior to his big failed drug test scandal. He has been preached as the best fighter to ever step foot inside the ufc octagon, that's a big statement to live up to. The organization helped him get through this shit because they needed the money this event generated. He's a special case treatment. If not for the money, it was definitely for not losing face to the media, claiming the dosage found in his body was ONLY a picogram. I don't believe it for a second. But he's an entertaining fighter, so i won't hate on him.

I don't think there's anybody even in heavyweight that can beat Jones. He's the GOAT.

I'd like to see a trilogy fight with DC where he'll undoubtedly get ko'd again.

Gustaffson's body looked like shit. He's a 6'5 guy having to make weight in a 205 weight class but he's got the flab of a skinny-fat phaggot walking out of the Swedish Buttplug Convention? At his height and weight he should be chiseled or he's leaving massive amount of lean muscle mass on the table.

Jones was diabolical. I liked how he put out the challenge after the fight. Good showmanship

The chick fight was pretty gruesome. Nunes took the Cyborg down hard.

Yea I don't get how a professional athlete can look like that (or DC for that matter). I lift maybe 1-2x a week max with the core of my workouts being muay thai, and I look like a greek god compared to those guys. Genetics is a bitch I guess.

The thing is MMA is really the only combat sport where a lot of the athletes look like shit. Boxers, wrestlers, and kickboxers are jacked. I just don't think MMA is big enough moneywise yet to attract top tier athletes.

Nunes could knockout a few male bantamweights I'm sure. Of course there's some people who say she's actually a man..which wouldnt surprise me.

This is my view as well.

I triggered this BJJ/MMA fighter guy hard when I told him, "no one watches UFC for ethics. The average fan secretly admires JJ for being a horrible person and STILL at the top of the game."

This "fighter" was whining on and on about how JJ doesn't deserve this and that because he's not a good guy. Ironically, many fighters are the most idealistic about what the sport should be. They forget that UFC is a damn business. The wheels on the bus go round 'n' round because of controversy and brutality, not ethics. If guys want to watch the Nicest Fighters Championship then I really don't know what to tell them.

I'm not a fighter and have no real interest in fighting in the UFC or any sort of tournament format. Unfortunate or not, the people spending the most money on the sport also really don't give a shit. If anything, they like it more since they are presented with the opportunity to possibly see JJ lose (even though they know he won't).

Despite being a reprehensible human being, JJ is an absolute joy to watch and that's ultimately why he gets special treatment.

Honestly, who here wouldn't cheat if it meant you get millions of dollars when you win. Guys who say they wouldn't cheat are obviously not trying to win.

That's the mindset of the weak.

The UFC is a clown show, we have drugged up butch lesbians fighting each other, drugged up cheaters fighting against clean fighters and being praised for cheating, because if you don't cheat you're an idiot that's not trying.

This is why I pretty much don't watch any sports at all, it's all fake.

the training for mma almost requires cheating to be just able for your body to recover they should just let them all juice its a joke

Fedor is one of the greatest fighters of all time and yet he looks like he eats a box of donuts a day.

And guys like Silva and Nate Diaz don't exactly have muscular physiques, but can fuck dudes up.

My guess is this they mainly focus on technique and cardio and don't hit the weights all that often.

It's never gonna happen... but I wish steroids would be acceptable to the masses! Are they dangerous? Absolutely... but for people fighting as a living... roids would actually be beneficial to them in a major way by reducing recovery time ... and therefore reducing their injuries rate! Before USADA came in, having a Backup Fighter on Deck was unheard of! But Steroids are so ingrained as being tools for the weak that they will never be seen as positives! However, I admit Roids being illegal is for the Greater Good. Having uneducated people & fat asses take Roids for superficial reasons would be deadly, very very deadly... especially on the slimming aid side!

If MMA was on the same level of Baseball, exactly the same declined would be going on now as during the Senate purge on Roids! Ratings fell around 35-40% if I recall correctly after the MLB Home Run Leaders had 40-45 Long Balls, instead of the 70-75 the leaders had during the McGuire & Sosa era! The Movie Bigger Stronger Faster really laid out perfectly the question of "Is Performance Enhancers Really That Bad & Uncommon?" Nah... it's as American as Apple Pie Baby!

I'm a big fan of Fedor Emelianenko. He is one of the greatest MMA fighters, IMO. His training regimens and/or programs were designed to focus on martial arts techniques - i.e., accuracy, reflex, timing, footwork. hip throws, etc.

Is he Ripped... Nha! But truly see nothing wrong with his Physique! To be Honest, Alex should be fighting at Middleweight... but he's not the type to deplete himself he keeps it real Diaz style! Down there he would be ripped though... and would spank everyone

Fedor fought as a heavyweight where you don't have to "make weight," so he faced no tradeoff between lean muscle mass and his total weight. A 6'5 guy like Gustaffson who is coming in right at the 205 weight limit for light-heavyweights is obviously making a tradeoff between flab and lean muscle mass. Prime Anderson Silva was so utterly dominant that he could afford to leave muscle mass on the table and still crush the opposition. Gustaffson was 18-4 prior to this fight, so he should have learned his lesson that he's not elite enough to be able to afford coming into fights with anything less than his best possible physique.

Speaking of amazing fighters that didn't have amazing physiques, anyone else think BJ Penn should have retired a few years ago? It's just getting hard to watch at this point.

Is a great physique conducive to making you a great mma fighter though?

Jones is probably the best fighter of all time and I don't think his body fat is below 10 percent.

Gus was the only guy to give Jones real trouble since Vitor Belfort got Jones in an arm bar while on TRT. Some think Gus won the first fight.

I agree Robbie got robbed in the sense the fight was stopped early, but I also believe Ben's narrative that Robbie was on the way to sleepytown with almost 2 minutes to go in the round.
