Rio Seems Pretty Over-Rated To Me

The attitude of the girls have noticable deteriorated and the prices mostly shot up (even taking into account inflation) since I was first there in 1998 compared to my last trip a couple of years ago.

Enjoyed it much more in 98

I haven't been to Rio since 2001. Then, the exchange rate was 4+ realis to the dollar. It was BEAUTIFUL.

But yeah, unless you meet a sexy Brazilian girl, it will be expensive and that not great.

I couldn't disagree more. Rio is one of those cities that even when you don't get laid is still an incredible city. There's so much to see and do, it's beautiful, good nightlife, a joy to walk around etc etc etc that there's so much else to occupy you other than chasing girls.

Though it is a truly unique and beautiful city, Rio NOW is over-rated IMO.
I can only wonder with amazement how it would have been visiting there 20-30 yrs ago. For those who have never been, DEFINITELY go the first time you visit Brazil. But once you get a hang of brazilian culture and portuguese, a city in the NE like Joao Pessoa and Natal will make you happier without any dropoff in the quality of the typical woman.

Great advise. To me Rio is an awesome city, definitely put it on your list, and if it's your first time to Brazil, definitely don't pass it up. Definitely a good spot to hit if you haven't experienced brazil. It's gorgeous, nice women, fun place, no reason not to go. But definitely after getting used to Brazil and learning conversational Portuguese, it's a must to check out other parts of Brazil. Rio IS over rated, but like Roosh was saying, just because it's soooo damn hyped up you would expect heaven on earth.

Rio is a beautiful city, but I'd put it below many other large cities in the world like Cape Town, San Francisco, Budapest, Istanbul, Paris, London, Stockholm, or even arguably places like Beijing, Damascus, Quito, Muscat, or Hanoi. The areas of Rio that are nice are very limited, you go to many other places in the city and it just looks rundown like most of Brazilian cities.

Rio is an awesome place to visit for a 1 - 2 week whirlwind tour. Amazing scenery, nightlife was crazy fun in lapa, nightclubs in general were mediocre (average women with pretty high bitch shields). If you dont mind banging 5's it should be relatively easy. I dont know I didn't try. Once I realised that all the talk about easy cute girls was all hype I wanted to move to cooler climates. It was too hot for me. Being tall blonde and good looking doesn't stand for shit in my opinion. So dont go to Rio for easy 7 - 9's. They do not exist. Whilst I did see the occasional stunner I felt it was the sort of place you either spend a short amount of time, or a long term project in order to build a social circle. Anything in between might be a waste of time.

Rio IS overrated. It's a cool city but a) it's priced like Manhattan b) it's not that easy to bang cute girls.

I can almost guarantee that most guys do not bang girls north of 7's. It's difficult for me to say that a place is paradise on earth when banging an 8 is extremely difficult. There are a lot of ugly girls in Rio. Do you guys not notice the butterfaces? The south of Brazil and Sao Paulo have girls just as cute if not hotter than Rio.

I agree with the butterface part. You have a larger pool of pretty faces in SP and in the south, without question.

But Cariocas have a stronger "sexy vibe" and their bodies are generally better.

I totaly agree with you Lief. I stayed in Rio 2 and a half weeks in a furnished pad in copacabana and it seemed very difficult to bang 7 to 9s, from going out to clubs to gaming at the beaches. Had to settle for a couple of girls who were 5 or 6´s (those are quite easy in Rio). So for quality, either you stay for awhile, get a social circle going, find the right night spots and cute english speaking cariocas or you are better off in a Northeastern Brazilian city, especially if your portuguese is decent.

Yeah, I went here many times, but never was able to successfully score with any local girl. They were just waaaaayy too much work.

I only went twice and was already with some girls when I was there, but Barra just doesn't seem like it would be a great place to pick up. Everyone says it's the Miami Beach of Brazil. We both know what Miami Beach is like ha!

No, they say that is like Miami beach because it is a "new" area with lots of skyscrapers and a strong car culture, which is quite the opposite of the life style in the famous Zona Sul.
Girls in Barra in my experience were less snobby than Leblon/Ipanema chicks.Just avoid the meathead crowd and their "groupies".

Barra is known for having the "new rich" crowd in the city.

They are known for their "condominium" culture, where they don't leave their condominiums unless by car, and there is some sort of rivalry between the condominiums.

People in Zona Sul tease a bit those in Barra (for their own slangs, for living "far", we say they are not from Rio etc) but it's all good...

I didn't notice the "butterface problem" to be as bad or extreme as a lot of guys on here make it out to be. Maybe it's because I have a pre disposition to Latin women, I've never lived in a place with a high concentration of beautiful women, or since I value a girls' hot body more than a pretty face...

But, I thought the girls in Rio had pretty faces, especially the ones in Ipanema/Leblon, as you go down in social strata, the quality seemed to dip a bit, but even then I'd say it was common to see a girl with an amazing body with an average face. I can't recall ever seeing a girl with a slamming body, but a hideous, ugly fucked up face that I wouldn't want to be seen with or kiss.

I agree with you Richie, I have been to Rio 5 times in 3 years, even though it is an awesome travel place, that any guy who is single will love, it is very difficult to bang 8s or 9s, but then again, i have been to a lot of countries, and you have to always work a lot harder for an 8, and especially 9 (i rarely give out 10s) . With that said, when i travel and cannot stay longer in most countries than a couple of weeks, my strategy is to not be as picky as i would in the states if i want to bang chicks. I won't however, take less than a 6. I did bang every time i went down there, and found the girls very friendly, warm, and IMO Rio is not flooded with American tourists. You will be fine with some amount of game.

Rio is nowhere close to Manhattan prices btw. I guess it could be if you are balling out huge. But if you're just a normal guy, it's much much cheaper. For example, the Rodisios here in Miami cost around $50-60 a head. I went to some bomb ass Rodisios in Rio for $15. There's no way Rio is comparable to Manhattan, neither is Sao Paulo yet. Like I said, if you're balling out yes, but you guys are making it sound like the average traveler on a budget is gonna be paying the same prices as manhattan. Simple not true at all. Rent is cheaper, food is cheaper, clubs are cheaper. The only thing you'd be paying more for are things like clothes and electronics, that's why you don't buy any of that shit in Brazil.

I didn't see it either. To me the girls in Rio beat the hell out of girls in almost any American city any day. I saw lots of stunners. But go to a place like Vitoria or certain spots in Minas Gerais, the quality is even better. Maybe that's just cause I'm a big fan of latin women.

Thanks. Compared to this beating we're taking here in America, I would have no reason to complain. Plus, I love the culture compared to this sterilized society we have.

Yeah, a lot of people complain about American culture/society, but one thing I noticed is we are very diverse. Most people have a hobby or something they are really into or good at. In Brazil I didn't notice so many people with hobies as I do here in the states. For example tons of my friends are into playing and making art, music, jewlery, snowboarding, skating, basketball, things like that. That was one thing I thought was really cool about America. We just have access to so much stuff. But I definitely agree Brazil has a great culture. Man do I miss that place, can't wait to go back.

I don't think everyone on this forum is saying Rio is the best city to travel in the world, but if you just look at the sheer number of posts and threads about it, the majority of people who have been love it and usually go back. I have been there 5 times and here are the reasons why: a) friendly, approachable girls b)beautiful city surrounded by beach, green mountains, good weather, culture galore (music, food ) c)Carnival is arguably the best party in the world and happens in Rio but Salvador's Carnival is somewhat better d) decent nightlife and e) the people are some of the friendliest and warmest on the planet.
I would say if you have a bucket list of only 10 cities a single guy should go to, this would be one probably along with Bangkok, Kiev, Medellin, Stockholm, London, Ibiza, and others....

I would think people in Rio have their share of hobbies just like anywhere else in the world. What about MMA, futbol, beach activity, samba, music, etc.? Maybe even sex, lol.

I thought it was opposite re: hobbies. People in the US are often consumed by work and the pursuit of material possessions, so sometimes they don't really have many interests.

In contrast, I felt like Brazilian people were full of life and had more balanced interests. It seems everyone there loves the beach, samba, drinking, partying, music, football, etc.

Brazilians from Rio yes , But go to other places like São Paulo or Belo Horizonte and this can be quite diferent. Many don't have time to pursuit hobbies and are working their asses off.

Yeah, maybe SP, it's a workaholic place.

But in the northeast of Brazil I felt like it was even more laid back than Rio. No one really likes working up there. People really know how to live.
