Whatever floats you boat I guess. Personally, I couldn't imagine adding some bullshit crap time distraction crap like this in my life. Especially when I realized how prone I am to wasting time on my phone already, but i've made massive inroads:

I've spent the last year or so cutting out distractions, I use an amazing app called Freedom. Highly recommended.

If it really takes pokemon to get you out of the house do your thing.

I mean everyone has their vices, I smoke weed too much etc

If you still enjoy it: you do you, but make sure you are spending most your efforts gaining currency that is usable and not "XP"

Yeah, it seemed over doing it! I was in an area where there is only one (not very) tall building with a fountain nearby and plenty of conductivity everywhere round(wet grass and wiring and reflector lights) , the guys werent even carrying umbrellas or rain gear (I was loking at this from the only dry and safe spot available to foot traffic)

I wouldn't write it off so quickly. About a week ago, my GF and i were walking around and playing it, and she kept saying that she thought that the game was stupid and really too much work to walk from one location to the next. But then the last couple of days, she grabbed my phone each time that we were out and about, and began to play from whatever was our location, and then we found that playing in the car was fun, too... because you can cover a lot of territory and randomly stop anywhere at any time rather than walking or doing it when you have other things to do... and then when the levels go up, there is some excitement too to draw you in.

I am not saying that I am exactly excited about the game, but I would not write off the game too soon when it is still in its very early stages and there are a lot of ways that people can incorporate the game into their daily living without just walking around and playing it in one setting like many traditional games.

Look, I'll say one thing for it. It's a hell of a social lubricant. It must have had a strong hold over Millennials to have created such a sense of regression / nostalgia, because these girls lead a couple of us guys around the neighbourhood, the one in particular just having to show me how it worked.

They found one by the water next to the bridge over the river, and I watched the process and how pleased they were with themselves, which, of course, is when Daddy has to feign praise for his little girls.

Well Officer, the strange thing is, she wasn't abducted, in fact we saw her actually leading a massive man with a skull mask to the place where her body was found down by the river, it was as if she was insisting that he follow her.

Got woken up this morning by my 2 roommates chasing Pikachu or some type of dragons in our flat. I don't mind the game too much since it seems to get kids out of their house but for God's sake, keep that shit out of my room!

Guys,

Put your account up on eBay! I'm at a level 23 and right now my bid is at 230 for my account with half a day left.

Make that money

Edit: maybe I should wait? It might be worth more in 6 months then again the market might be too saturated.

Sell it now. This is a fad just like all fads before it... think Beanie babies.

How many hours did it take you to get to level 23?

It is funny, and I was feeling kind of embarrassed for the guy, even before we realized that it was a dude in the cafe. I mean knocking on a window and showing your phone as a means to approach seems pretty fucking lame, as an approach. What random girl is going to spread her legs with that kind of approach?

Two Pokemon zombies have run into me while walking, numerous other near misses. People stopping dead in their tracks in middle of sidewalk. I can't wait till this is done. Mindless phone drones everywhere- and that's sayin something these days.

I am not going to bash this game anymore, to each his own. It is odd though to see such a drastic change in behavior come so rapidly.

I remember the first time I saw someone listening to something on their headphones in a group of people, that is, a social situation; it was around 1985, a now antiquated cassette tape walkman, and those of us around her (of course it was a her) were really offended. It was a very antisocial thing to do, like standing up at the dinner table while grandma is talking and walking over and farting in her face.

Then conversation giving way to laptops in cafes in the 90's, then iPods in the early 2000's and now smartphones for everything.

The very first walkmans were nicknamed, derisively, "urban isolators."

I am totally used to people walking around or driving while using their phones, unaware of street signs or other people on the sidewalk, I know what evasive measures to take.

This new wrinkle, though happened faster, less incrementally, and I noticed it before I even knew what the game was. Seeing people hovering in weird places, a solitary girl standing there in an alley near a dumpster, a couple of giggling students running up and down some steps to a building randomly.

At first reality was pretty much shared, and then people opted out for the abstraction of their screens, and now, it seems, the abstract internal reality is being treated like it is more real than the external shared reality, and it isn't so much bad as unsettling, like a 24 hour fantasy scavenger hunt undertaken with a manic glee.

If you are just walking down the street normally, it looks like a scene from a movie about a pandemic where the early symptoms of the plague are only quirky or slightly quixotic, and no one is scared yet.

We are still in the foreshadow phase of Pokemon Go.

Relax, it's just a game. (There, now you don't have to say it.)

This is exactly what if feels like, I've made this same comment to others. It's like something from a film, some sort of syfy story, people being infected through the screens. There will be small groups all over but often they are silent, and of course completely unaware of whats happening around them.

It's an odd energy, and especially given that I never used to see these particular people out walking in my downtown area, in the parks, etc which adds to the feeling that they are strange beings from elsewhere.

As you said, the speed at which this change has happened is part of the phenomenon.

I don't have much of problem with it in general, just the times I mentioned- and now including someone stopping in revolving door in front of me today. I had to tap on the glass to wake her up from the trance.

Remember, PokemonGo is Skynet, when it comes online, judgement day happens. You can kill PokemonGo before it's born. It comes online October 2017.

Maybe you can only sell trainer accounts? And, then you would just give away the username and password, no?

Initially, I set up with a trainer account, and for about a week, mostly, I had been just using the account as a way to entertain my GF while we drive around or go to some new place to check to see if there are any pokemon in that new area.

This is really an all ages game, guys. I think you could be 15 or 30 or 75 years old and still have fun with this... whether it is a "players" app or not, may be another question. I will concede that it is a bit stupid and childish but very mobile, and I am not opposed to being stupid and childish merely to maintain some kind of image... anyhow, my point is that i doubt that Pokemon Go is going to be a flash in the pan, like beanie babies.. there is a lot more dynamics to it.

At first, neither of us (my GF or me) knows what the fuck we are doing in the game, and the pattern developed that she kept using up all the pokemon balls... so sometimes, when she was not around, I would just turn on the game just to get a few more pokemon balls so there would be enough balls when she was around. anyhow, we made it up to Level 6.

This morning I turned on the app, and it crashed. I tried to log into my training account, again, and I could not, and I got an error message saying that since pokemon go is so popular, there is not enough support for the trainer accounts. I tried to set up another trainer account, and I got the same message.

Anyhow, the punchline seems to be that setting up a Googlemail connected account is more robust than a trainer account, because I was able to set up a Googlemail connected account. I wonder if GF is gonna be pissed because we gotta start over and work our way back to level 6? hahahaha, after all that work, we had collected about 25 pokemon types and we had seen an additional 3 types... still a long way to go to catch all the pokemon.

Meh. I don't know about showing your phone, but I guarantee you that there's a lot of leather wearing bad boy types who have gotten laid either that way or with something similar.

Reading about the extreme proposed scenarios about pokemon go sort of reminded me of the magic: the gathering craze of my childhood and then the YUGI OH one when I was getting on my first (and last) year of Uni.
Damn,anyone remember turtlemania?

It does seem more of a fad than anything else,as for people willingly putting fish tanks in their heads,VR headsets for mobiles are becoming more popular anyhos regardless [Image: confused.gif]
