New Years in the Dominican Republic, Cabarete:
If you want to celebrate the New Year in a very diverse environment, on a beach, with warm weather, look no further. Cabarete is the place to be. (I have been hearing good things about Margarita island as well; will try it out next year).
Here is how my night went. I went out to dinner around 7 o’clock and I couldn’t find a restaurant I was looking for. A motorcycle cab driver comes up to me and asks me where I want to go. I told him where and he took me to the spot. He was a very friendly guy. As usual, he was trying to hustle me, just like almost all Dominicans.
He told me he has to come with me to the restaurant for I can get a better price. There was one huge Dominican family there so I said sure, why not.. I didn’t want to be the only single person there. Plus I wanted to go there to speak with Dominicans. Well he is Dominican so why not..
The food was awesome. I’m sure you don’t want a food repot so I’ll fast forward. A nice 4 door Tundra pulls up (very rare in Cabarete). Out of it comes an old man with his hot wife and their daughter. The guy was definitely not Dominican. He was from some other Latin country. My guess would be Venezuela but I’m not sure.
