What do you consider to be the most accurate news service?

Putting aside all partiality, what news service do you think reports the facts accurately?

I like Reuters, bbc, and AP, for all national , international news.

I like the Financial Times. It's relatively impartial and no-nonsense. People who rely on it to make investment decisions don't have time for bullshit.

Financial Times is great. They are increasing circulation real heavy in NYC. They also have a great managing editor from England who's name is Gillian Tett; she accurately predicted the financial collapse.

I love Al Jazeera. They really get it. They've managed to find that nuance that big mainstream outfits seem disconnected from.

The Guardian is cool. I like The Economist, but they adopt a quasi condescending establishment pov, though on some issues they have always been progressive. It's been around since 1845 and they were always against slavery, for example.

Project Syndicate is also cool. That's more indie, but they bring in all kinds of big name folks to pen great articles. Google them.

In the US? NPR, actually. I'm also pretty fond of the BBC, and actually Al Jazeera does a pretty good job too.

I cosign on The Economist. When you compare it to the U.S. weeklies like Time, it's really embarrassing.

I just saw this dude on Russia Today (RT). He's maintained an outstanding record of predicting financial disasters:

The most accurate ?

There isn't one source that is the best. You have to go to different sources that have strengths in different things.

Generally I stay away from Reuters, BBC, AP etc. Why? because they all report the same stuff and a lot of it is spotty news. Reuters, and AP circulate the crappy feeds that most other news sources report.

I'll mix things up always.

CBC is one I would recommend they sit on their hands now since our gov't is threatening to cut their funding but I find they cover American news and politics better than American news does lol.

I still fuck with The Economist from time to time.

As far as MSM goes that's all I touch.

everything else I get from the Guardian, RT, PressTV, DW-TV, Spegal, For general international news and affairs. Then for politics and foreign affairs I got a bunch of subscriptions such as Stratfor and Global Research.

Financial news: Zero Hedge

I cut off Al-Jezera because its become nothing but a mouth piece for Qatar. There news has fallen to the crap levels of BBC and CNN. My Arabic homie would translate me the lies they we're spinning in comparing the English and Arabic services.

RT is straight propaganda. It's literally run by the Kremlin. They basically give a voice to anyone willing to criticize the west. And that's not to say that the west doesn't deserve criticism.

Same nonsense can be said about Corporate owned USA media. Look all media has bias, if you understand this fact then getting your American news from non-American sources makes sense. If you understand RT it makes its bread by being the only network that is critical of American hegemony.

My head hurts after watching more than 20 mins of CNN or NBC. All establishment shills taking kickbacks. You have the "former Army general" pitching wars in Persia as he's a paid consultant with weapons contractor Lockheed Martin. Toothless GOP debates where shilled reporters ask marshmallow questions candidates had time to prep for.

American news is complete trash.

I don't watch broadcast news. It makes you less intelligent. Used to like Comedy Channel's "The Daily Show", but got sick of all the f*cking smugness.

Like I said earlier, read Time after reading The Economist and it's embarrassing. And CNN and the New York Times and the Washington Post all have a definite mainstream, pro-U.S. bias, but there's a difference between bias and outright propaganda. Journalists in the United States have an incentive not to rock the boat too much or else they'll lose access (look at Steve Kroft's softball interview of Obama), but they also have an incentive to look beyond the spin every once in a while (like the Washington Post's series on Top Secret America).

You would never see that sort of thing on RT. In fact, journalists in Russia have a funny habit of getting merked when they get too critical. What you see on RT is some dude spinning conspiracy theories about 7 WTC or ranting about the economic system without any real understanding of economics. As bad as things are in the U.S. press, if you read with a critical eye you will come away with a pretty good idea of the basic facts. From there it's up to you to supplement with other sources to get a more complete understanding.

You're right about the cable news stations, though. They're all garbage. There's really not enough legitimate news to fill 24 hours, so they fill the air with the worst of the talking heads and pundits. I know a lot of think tank/journalist types that do these shows (RT included) and many times they're either looking for someone to speak some mainstream, non-controversial fluff or they're looking to get two idiots from opposite sides to yell at each other on the air. If you have a reasoned, articulate views, that question the status quo in a thoughtful manner they're not all that interested in booking you

I agree.

I'm down with RT for there shows mostly. I enjoy Crosstalk because they actually bring both sides of the issue to go at it. And the Host Peter is a smug little bastard at times. I'm a big fan of Max Keiser as well (how I first learned of RT in the first place).

RT hires mostly Americans to do its English service lol. They have trolls on they like Alex Jones to get viewers up but every network does that. RT got big as being anti-Bush. Everybody hated Bush and started tuning in.

Critical analysis is what the majority of people lack. If you have the skills to can take in any source of info/news and alarm bells will go off in your head on how shit don't make sense.

TYT tho AKA The Young Turks, great independent news channel on Youtube TYT getting Al Gore money from Current TV so lets see how legit they keep things now.

TYT's Ana Kasparian is a fukin sex bomb tho. I would bang out that Armenian ass all day long. Wooooooooof. [Image: banana.gif]

You're right that the Economist is consistent. I looked through a bunch of back issues going back 100 years or so at a library once and was amazed at how consistent they have been in a lot of their positions. Or at least the fundamental classical liberal reasoning behind their positions.

It's important be aware of its world-view. I've never found their style condescending; it's more that their style is terse with little or no concession to opposing viewpoints. This sometimes comes across as condescending. I think they're trying to be to the point more than anything.

The Economist Style guide taught me a lot about good writing: http://www.amazon.com/Economist-Style-Gu...1846681758
