Philippines is the worst country i've ever visited...

Search the board and you'll find far more nuanced takes on the Philippines. The consensus on the place being an A-grade source for poon is well documented. And the OPs whiny tone certainly didn't help, there was nothing helpful about it.

I don't care about the 'tone', I want hard facts. If somebody is passionate about hating the place doesn't bother me at all, as long as you can think you can filter shit through. What bothers me is omitting facts due PC bullshit of not hurting someones feelings, or the $3/day travelers yelling "man up" when I don't feel like climbing Kilimanjaro on Monday.
I know what the consensus is with poon in the Philippines, the problem is when guys like Filmor get too much "good stuff" and not enough reality about a place so they can pick the best spot for themselves.

How would you compare Philippines to India 'dirtiness' wise? Poverty doesn't bother me much but I loathe any form of organized beggarism like Indian tailors for example.

I cancelled a trip to India for exactly this reason, I'd heard too many stories about dead people lying on the side of the road, people crapping in the street and being constantly harassed by beggars, it didn't sound very appealing to me.
I'd like to experience if that's actually true or not. It'd be an eye opener and whilst not such a pleasant one I'd still like to have that experience. I don't want everything to be rosey and happy all the time when I'm travelling, it's good to see how other people like to put things into perspective.

Dubai 3rd world? Ah! That's a bad joke or what? Only a total moron would think that. Compared to Dubai, most places in North America and even Europe are 3rd world. In fact, returning from Tokyo, Toronto and even NYC are 3rd world. No iffs or buts. Idem for Hong Kong, Singapore and Abu Dhabi.
You missed his point. The whole 1st, 2nd and 3rd world tags came about during the cold war, first world was US/Britain and allies, 2nd world Russia and it's communist allies and 3rd world thsoe not involved. Now it's evolved to mean rich and poor.

The whole 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world country thing only has to do with which side a country took during the cold war. There's really no reason to debate which countries are 3rd world. Dominican Republic is third world because they took no side during the Cold War, same as all other 3rd world countries. It just so happens that most countries that took no sides in the war i.e. 3rd world countries happen to be extremely pour. I'm fairly certain the Bahamas are a 3rd world country as well, but the bahamas certainly don't look like Rochinha.
It was to do with the cold war but the cold war is long over and it has a different meaning now. Third world now simply means poor, first world means modern, advanced and rich. It's a terrible way to categorize countries as not all copuntries fit well into thecategories people would put them in. We've got so called 'first world' coutnries that are bankrupt and 'third world' that are going from strength to strength.

There's obviously more to the country than poverty though. So it's possible that the poverty (and I'm sure it's being over-rated here) is worth it for all the other amazing aspects of the country.
This is first world relativism at it's worst. To say "Philippines is the worst country i've ever visited", you just show your poverty of stimulus and lack of experience.
If anyone here thinks Philly is bad... you have no fucking idea.
Try hit up Haiti, Liberia, Lagos or Congo... you'd think Manila was Manhattan in comparison.
PS- Manila is not a fair representation of the Philippines by any account.

I was on a RTW and this was one of the legs and I just thought screw it I can't be bothered with that especially as almost everyone has told me it is almost a certainty that I would get sick to some degree.
I did read one amusing blog where an American was talking about how he was taking this great trip around India with his brother, then the follow up was that he absolutely hated it, constant beggars, terrible food and diarrhea, that probably helped in putting me off too.

You can get sick absolutely anywhere. Is a bit of an upset stomach really a big deal? It happens when travelling. People tell me a lot of things about countries before I visit not all of it comes true.

I find this a bit confusing at times. I know quite a few slums in Rio and in other cities and here's the tricky part:
3rd world: Usually there's no real sewage system, there's garbage all over, shabby constructions, bad ventilation, difficult access etc etc.
1st world: At the same time, a lot of these people have airconditioning, microwave ovens, internet, mobile phones, flat screen TV's, running water and hot showers, normal toilets, fridge etc etc.
I see signs of both the 1st world and the 3rd world coexisting in the very same slums. I guess a lot of this has to do with the people's own priorities (i.e. buying a new flat screen TV in installments instead of painting the house). Anyway, go during a weekend and they'll be preparing some barbecue with friends and drinking ice cold beer (good for daygame by the way).
I'd be careful with categorizations because you may be surprised, this shit seems to be pretty mixed up and messed up to me. Some parts of Africa, yes, that was a different story...no mixed signs there...
why label?
There is a lot of poverty in Manila and it is widely seen in Malate quarter where you stayed.
However if you move to Makati quarter it is much much better, good infrastructure, upscale hotels (some for as low as 80$ night), plenty of shopping malls, movie theaters, descent food options and overall you will have all comfort of 1st world plus easy girls...
I had a great time there, and though in the bars/clubs in Makati/Malate/Pasay most girls are working, you can either get normal girls in the malls (cashiers, waitresses etc.) or go to night clubs which mostly upscale locals go.
Out of Manila there are amazing places to visit, Boracay, Palawan, Taal volcano (day trip) and many many more...
I know that Angeles city is major destination to get pussy, a lot of sex tourists there, never been there myself.
The people are in general very nice, nicer than Thailand for sure. Phil is more pristine and less commercial.

The problem there is that everyone knows eachother and all the Greeks from here go there in the summer so it's only good to base there and boat around to other places. The good thing is that you can see Turkey and almost kayak there and high speed ferry boats are in and out all day to take you wherever you want. A trip back to Athens is twelve hours though.

1st world in the slums? They shouldn't be put in the same sentence unless you are saying "First world countries don't have slums." I don't know where you went, maybe Rochinha, but there are slums out there with no electricity, sewage, houses made out of straight trash! I've been in a slum before. And reguarding slums with a/c, maybe there are a couple, but I highly doubt more than 5% of houses have a/c in slums. Shit, my girlfriend didn't have it at her house and she was middle to upper class Brazilian. Not to mention the slums in Brazil are considered to be more dangerous than Iraq. If the favelas aren't 3rd world, then I don't know what is.
A lot of the favelas aren't really dangerous at all and the owners whilst living in a badly constructed shack still have mod cons.
Any favela with drug traffic is dangerous. Not necissarily because the people who live there, but if the cops show up theres a good chance shots are gonna be fired.

I get your point. To further develop this discussion would take us far from the original theme of this thread.
I'm talking here from 1st hand experience, feel free to believe it or not. My suggestion is go and check it out by yourself and you'll see the mixed signs (development/comfort vs. underdevelopment/discomfort) I was talking about. Just to mention a few slums close to the main drags in Rio, besides Rocinha: Tavares Bastos, Vidigal, Chapéu Mangueira, Pavão, Vila das Canoas, Rio das Pedras (great party scene by the way, a hidden decadent gem)...
You have a point about the Airconditioning! Remember most of those people didn't have to pay for their electricity bills! For the middle class it is sometimes far heavier to carry the burden of having to pay taxes and bills. I went to this guy's place in the slum, he had not one, but three devices....he didn't have to pay the bills and was literally very cool about it. As for the dangers, well, let me tell you I was only robbed once in my life, in Italy. An ironic twist of destiny perhaps.
This is the problem when 100% of your travel focus is on pussy.
As a child who grew up and experienced poverty in the Philippines, FilMor you need to grow a pair.
Poverty, living in lack and all sorts of inconveniences made me appreciate the simple things in life like people, food, and sex. Some of my best memories are from riding jeepneys and playing with my friends when there were electric "brown outs."
I would advise you to hang out with the locals and get to know them.
While I don't recommend eating out of garbage cans, getting to know them gives you more perspective and maybe make you a bit more understanding and compassionate.
To the others who have slayed the beauties of my home country: Damn You. I was 13-14 when I immigrated to the US and remember the pretty girls doing the approaching on a scrawny, bookish, shy boy like me. With what I know now about game and being fluent in Tagalog, I might be Genghis Khan incarnate over there.

So today I was hanging out with this chick and she wants to take me back to her place. I asked her where she lives and she said "Makati."
I was pleasantly surprised that she lived in Makati as I wasn't keen on banging her in some ghetto apartment. Well, ghetto apartment it was indeed. It turns out "Makati" has somewhat loose meaning, it was nothing at all like the real Makati City, so lesson learned. You very well have seen the crappy Makati.
If you want to see nice, check out Taguig City. Specifically, The Fort, Benefacio and Serendra. I was blown away how nice it was.

Agreed. I actually went directly from India to Manila. Manila is better in terms of having less poverty, being less dirty, having a safer food supply, and of course getting laid is 1000x easier. Another surprising thing is that English is spoken better in Manila too.
