Well I was in Medellin one month last year. I didn't like it. Girls are EXTREMELY flaky and nightlife sucks (there are almost no girls or group of girls going out without men there, all around Colombia).

I have to admit I love the culture and people of Dominican Republic much more than Colombia. Even though It Is close. Colombia overall is much more conservative than the Dominican Republic and I would probably rather live in Colombia long-term than the DR but for a short action packed vacation with friendly people I think DR is the ticket for most and If you speak decent Spanish it makes it that much sweeter.

If you want the medium to dark skinned ones I wouls say go for more of the University Girls/Upper Class/Eduacated ones that speak english than the lower middle class to barrio girls. Santiago is not a good choice for cats who don't know a lick of Spanish and are only going for a week. The thing about Santiago is that it can get very Clique-ish and pretentious at higher end spots. The reason why you would even want to go to those spots is because those are the places where you going to find non-pro's Dominicans who speak English.
