Belarus....

I love my Latinas... but I have always loved the Russian tall blond, grey, green, blue eyes and long legs..... plus I love value for my $.

After a very disappointing trip to Argentina where stuff was almost NY prices, outside the steak and wine.... I came across Belarus quite by accident. I have been to Russia, Latvia(HOT women BTW), and poland. Poland was pretty cheap with friend good looking girls.

So stumbling across belarus, I started looking up info and girls pictures. The women are attractive, like western men, and have not been spoiled by a bunch of tourists as far as I can tell.

Plus in keeping with my value for dollar I found this from wiki.

On 23 May 2011, the Belarusian Ruble was devalued by 56% against the U.S. dollar. On the black market, the devaluation has dropped even lower. Panic spread across the country as citizens rushed to exchange their rubles for dollars, euros, durable goods and canned goods.[141] On 1 June 2011, Belarus requested an economic rescue package from the International Monetary Fund.

Sounds like that means great value for the US dollar. I dont want to miss out on a great deal like I did waiting to hit Argentina.

Anyone been? Thoughts?

Very hard to even get into Belarus for visa reasons as the people who runs the country are complete dicks.

Belarus is the Venezuela of Europe.

Would be curious to go there though as I hear its a good hunting ground.

I've was there back in 2006. It was one of the strangest places. Getting a visa is a bit of a pain (you need to be invited) and the airport is pretty far from the city. I was on a date with a girl and we were talking about Yuri Gagarin. They are really proud of him. When I mentioned Neil Armstrong she didn't know who he was. I said first man on the moon and she looked at me like I was crazy. I could never convince her we landed there. It's a really closed off society.

Minsk has the most beautiful women that I have ever seen in the world. Their clothes and makeup is a little bit slutty but in a good way. If you speak good Russian you'll do very well there. And with the great exchange rate it's now affordable. You can also live like a king there. My hotel room had a balcony with a private pool. Living like the oligarchs!

That's where I'm from. Maybe I should go back and visit. I could probably get a visa no problemo.

Lumiere, have you ever been to Belarus ? Getting a visa should not be that difficult. I wonder if Belarus is dangerous though.

Belarus....

I went there last year in September. As part of our Contiki tour, there was a one night stop in Minsk. Only a few of us went out, and it was actually pretty damn fun. It was a weeknight, and we went to some hotel club but I forget the name. It is definitely very cheap there and people are poor. Our tour guide, who was very attractive even said at one point that she lives with 3 generations in her home: her and her siblings, her parents and her grandparents, and that most people go out "looking for any excuse not to come home."

As to the nightlife, that weeknight it was packed but supposedly that was the place to go according to our guide. Definitely a lot of cute girls (but less attractive than Russia/Poland) and about half spoke english. I'm pretty sure there were some P4Ps there too, but a bunch of young girls (19-22) were on the dance floor. Very weird setup where the guys all drink at the bar, and the girls just dance alone for the first few hours. My friends and I had success talking and dancing with the girls, but they ended up with their Belarussian counterparts at the end of the night. Granted, I did not have too many skills back then and was in a relationship.

I have some video of the club and a photo of some girls too, I will try and post it. But take everything I say with a grain of salt, I was literally there for one night.

Edit: Here's the pic of some random girls we were dancing with. The one in the middle kind of smelled if I remember correctly (like hasn't showered).

Global Baller, I never saw a black person while I was there. I can't say if you'll have a problem since it never came up. (I'm white) But I've been to St. Petersburg and I saw a few skinheads there but never in Minsk. I did see a few goose stepping kids about 12 years old dressed in military uniforms. They said they were a group that was something like the scouts.

Damn and I thought it was Gonna be pretty cheap but after doing a little research it looks like hotel rooms are outrageous the cheapest I could find was $180. If their economy is crashing and the US dollar is worth a lot and their currency was just devalued I wonder what they were charging before all that happened. Even looking up one-bedroom apartments online are €70 a night which is just pretty crazy for a eastern European country.

Im curious to know

a) when last you travelled past the limits of your own city and if you even have an updated passport

b) if the answer is "yes, them white hoes will suck your dick as you step off the plane" if it will encourage you to get your passport updated and travel somewhere so you can report on it

If it means we may finally get a contribution from you other than yet another question about how you may do in XXXX country as a black man or a comment about how you once fucked an Swedish girl in 1979, then yes, you will be treated like a God in Belarus.

They get MTV, they get few tourists, and even fewer black men. If you can speak just a little Russian or you can use the internet and pipeline, you will kill it because they would not have even probably met a black man if they never travelled.

Now what now? What are you plans sir? Is it going to make one iota of difference? Will you research this yourself seriously? Or are you going to kick back and wait for yet another thread to troll with the yet another similar fucking question about race again?

Every single fucking post from you is the same shit.

@ CLR and everyone else.

Belarus is a hidden gem. Its what Russia and Ukraine was for travellers in the late 90's. Minsk would be like the Tier 2/3 cities of Ukraine, Russia and most of EE. They dont get many people through and its very isolated politically and economically. It really is like the Venezuela of Europe, it was a great description of the place. If you like EE women, the women there are top shelf. Ratios are ridiculous and as good as they are in Ukraine. They are mix between Polish, Russian and Ukrainian predominantly.

There is some difficulty with the place though. Its militant, so you do have a few problems with things like visas and the processes around it. Also very few people speak English and you would have to line things up before you went if you were not fluent.

There is less danger than in Russia as it does not have the xenaphobic element that Russia does, but it really is just a Russian state thrown into the deep end trying to claw its way out. Its still very, very socialised and its almost a bastion for what Russia used to be. It has been slow to adopt capitalism and its "democracy" is more of a authoritarian dictatorship. Bottom line is that sometimes I think Belarus never forgot that the Berlin Wall fell.

The countryside is magnificent and there is a lot of history if thats your thing. Nightlife in Minsk can be a mixed bag, but it picks up as the weekend gets closer. There is more than enough to see and do, although I cant see a reason to be there for very long stretches.

They get so few tourists though that almost anyone who is not from EE is seen as exotic. Its not the easiest place to go to, but if you are looking for something off the beaten track, its worth investigating. I was last there in 2008, and although it was for business the 3 weeks I was there I made hay.

Similar in culture to Russia and Ukraine, same goes with the women and their attitudes towards sex and men.

Jesus H. Christ that's something I'd expect in North Korea, not in modern day Europe.

Like I say, half of them think communism never ended and Stalin is still in power. More than half the operating companies in Belarus are still state controlled.

Visa for Belarus is about $150 I think.

Just went on to http://www.airbnb.com, found apartments being rented for $40-50, and everything else is dirt cheap because of the crisis.

Is Belarus the sort of place where bribing cops and officials as a foreigner is common?

Not sure myself, if it's anything like the Ukraine then there will be a fair bit of that.

I know people that have been and they've said Belarussians are extremely nice people

I have not had to, although I would expect it would very much be the case.

In Russia, I hate the local cops who more often than not will stop me, especially late 90's, early 00's. Almost always looking for a small bribe, forced you to keep your passport on you. My russian back then was also non existent, so it was uncomfortable.

Belarus has a strong presence too. Although I have not been pulled yet, I think it would be a matter of time there. More so than Russia these days.

Best thing to do is expect it with them. They earn very little and they take their chances. Best to keep a few Rouble in your passport itself, and we you hand it over they will simply take it and let you go. Dont hand them the money, dont offer them the money, they will know what to do. They dont want to make a big deal out of it, they are looking for a bottle of vodka or two is all.

Might be worthwhile making that into a thread of its own.

I'm not so sure about Belarus.
If you check out the reports on International Sex Guide (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/), you'll see some less than spectacular reviews.

Also, it has a 32% obesity rate (compared to Ukraine's 19%, Poland 18 %, Moldova 13%).

On the other hand...the crisis is making things cheaper, and it is very isolated.
Hmmm...

I would really be surprised if anyone outside the western world knew who Neil Armstrong is, the space race was really only a big deal to those involved.
