BBC Documentary - Genghis Khan
Have you ever met a Mongolian? I haven't met them in the US yet.
I met a bunch in Beijing. These guys are huge and drink like oxen.
They like to throw down, too.

Thanks for sharing, will watch it later.
There's also an independent film called "Mongol" about Genghis Khan. Check it out too...
"The best kind of pride is that which compels a man to do his best when no one is watching."
"Mongol" is great. I really wish they would make sequels for the the rest of the Mongol dynasties.
Andrew Zimmern of "Bizarre Foods" on the Travel Channel did an episode in Mongolia also. Very informative about life there now...

I second The Mongol movie. Great flick.
I think calling the Mongolian empire the greatest would be a bit of a stretch. Not to take away their pretty amazing pillaging, they could never last. Unlike the Romans for example, or even the Limeys, who 'milked' the conquered land for all it's worth, the Mongols simply raped, pillaged, and burned anything on their way. Not the best way for long term prosperity.
Also the size of their empire was pretty much a wasteland where villages where scattered every few hundred miles.
The ancient Mongols are a pretty interesting footnote in history, but not really much else, at least comparing to other great Empires whose knowledge we still use today.

I met a Mongolian woman (mid-20's). She was a server at a restaurant I used to frequent and looked like a mix of Alaskan and Asian. Finally asked her and found out she was Mongolian...sexy as hell too. I never asked her out because I was a complete pussy. Four years ago...oh my how much I've learned.

Yep...that's exactly what they look like. Actually, another name for Down's Syndrome is Mongolian Idiocy, because the faces of Down's sufferers can look similar...

I love these historical documentaries. Huge history buff. One of the primary reasons I'd like to travel is to see old historical sites.
He spread his seed far and wide: 0.5% of the world is descended from him, including 10% of Mongolia.
I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?
Cool I need t owatch it when I have some time

On Wednesday on NatGeo @ 9:00, "Forbidden Tomb of Genghis Khan." The site of his tomb is still a mystery, so I guess this is an attempt to figure out where he's buried...

They say that his empire was twice as much as Alexander the Great but they forgot to mention that Alexander won battles since he was 12 and died at 33
His empire wasn't as impressive as most people make it out to be. The Mongols tried invading North Africa/rest of the Middle East and they got stomped badly, (in a straight ground battle) by the Egyptian Mamluks. Oh yeah and Genghis Khan himself tried to invade India several times but got beaten and held back, he only reached as far as Afghanistan and the Indians completely ran all over his forces with elephants. Whats funny is that during this time, alongside China, India was one of the richest and most abundant countries in the world (unlike today) and he failed to take the sub-continent; Alexander also tried to take the entirety of India and failed but he was more successful then Genghis Khan in that region.
The Mongols reached as far as the Crimea in Europe but there was no way on earth he was going to claim Europe as his own as the terrain was disadvantageous to Mongol style warfare; the Vikings/Celts and the rest of the Europe would have eventually defeated him if he actually continued at the time he was in EE. He also was too stupid to figure out proper naval warfare and how to build good ships which was why his grandsons failed to invade Japan.

This documentary was straight dope sauce. Thanks for sharing this, time for me to go takeover the world.

Do we have a master list of links to full length youtube documentaries of this quality somewhere in the forum? They're very hit and miss when I search on my own.
Not sure....I've definitely posted a ton of youtube docs on this forum
