If I want to listen to a song, I open a new tab, plug in the headphones to my computer, and go to YouTube to listen to the music videos.
Pros: Free. Legal. No need to buy expensive $300 (iPod) equipment.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Hello.

Spotify. It'll play the files you locally store on your computer, as well as allow you to stream damn near anything you want. It's free if you want to listen to a lot of annoying commercials, or $5-$10 monthly if you want to hear music commercial-free and stream via phone. I'm cheap and listen to the commercials.

Grooveshark. You can stream all the music you want, search for songs, and create playlists/libraries without storing any songs on your computer.

Bumping this thread to see if anybody has any new alternatives to iTunes. I've been trying to shake that piece of shit for years. It's such a resource hog, and I don't buy anything on their dumb store they push on you so hard.
I've used Winamp in the past and have been hearing there are some new ones. Ideally, I want a player that:
1. Has a nice interface
2. Has visualizations
3. Can manage my stupid iPod
4. Can share libraries with other devices in the house
Any suggestions?

Organizing and playing music is one thing, but having fun with music is another.
If you wanna play around with the music give Ableton Live a go.

I've also got a request, but for music discovery:
1. Suggests songs that you like when you pick a genre, song or artist.
2. Big song library.
3. Streaming.
4. Can skip/ban songs/artists.
5. No searching or browsing needed to find songs. Minimal effort. Automated playlist generation.
6. Can skip as much as you want.
7. Preferably but not mandatory: Phone app available.
I haven't found anything that does this very well. I've used Slacker Radio, particularly it's Trance/Progressive station. But the station only seems to have a couple hundred songs, and I almost never hear other songs on it - all the ones I like I recognize immediately and am almost sick of. But I have songs that never come up on it, so the library is nowhere near comprehensive. And for some reason the 'create a station' only gives me shitty songs.
There's also a lot of awesome mashups and remixes being made, but I don't have a convenient source for finding them.

+1 for Grooveshark when you want to queue up songs.
I've recently gotten into Digitally Imported (
http://di.fm) and I love the Electro-House and Chillout playlists, give that one a shot if you're into any electronic music.
