Everything I post these days is under the lens of a recently divorced guy, but I think I can chime in a little on some unforeseen issues with an LTR/Wife not working.
If she isn't working, once the kids are in school, da fuck is she gonna do with all that free time? Cleaning and cooking doesn't take very long. Help the kids with homework when they get home I guess and get them sorted for bed? I can hire a student for like 10-15 bucks an hr for that.
When you guys get divorced, you will have to pay child/spousal support. In the event that you can get away with paying on the lower end, your ex will not have any recent working experience to get any meaningful work - at first anyway. I'm in the position now where I can get away with paying significantly less but she would lose the house, car, etc, and in turn, that would suck for my kid. I have to support this person until they get their shit together for my kid's sake.
I dunno, I was all for the stay at home mom thing, but really, daycare/dayhome frees up so much more time for both parents to work as well as keep the mom in the workforce and obtain a independence in the event of a split. Dual income also relieves the burden on you to be always providing, say in the event you lose your job or you get injured or something and can no longer work.
