Brazil Ends Visa Requirements for Visitors From U.S.

Brazil has dropped visa requirements for visitors from the U.S. and several other nations, ahead of new leader Jair Bolsonaro’s first meeting Tuesday with President Trump.

Brazil’s government said Monday that tourists and business travelers from the U.S., as well as Canada, Japan and Australia, won’t need visas to visit the Latin American country as of June 17.

Very interesting news. Not sure if RVF guys are going to like this news or not, but from reading it, it seems like the barriers to get in are going to all but disappear for westerners, with a 90 day exemption and being able to stay up to 180 days in a 12 month period. Great for people that never been but maybe expats that are settled in will think this will bring in too many tourists. I'm thinking the current political state had something to do with the move.

I've never been to Brazil or South America in general and this announcement isn't making me rush to book a plane ticket to Brazil later this year. If anything, it's just more of a mental check note for the long term.

I cancelled my trip last year to Brazil and wasted my visa money last year...I still won't go.

I like to wonder solo and really get a real feel for a new place or city but I don't like looking over my back every second. Almost everybody I know who has been there has been robbed or came close to being mugged.
