The armed guy was most likely a Pathan based on his appearance and dress-style. They tend to be a lot more conservative, and a tranny is something to be despised of. In other parts of Pakistan, some people will invite them to dance at events for entertainment. By the way, Pakistan in general is a more conservative society than Turkey, but some regions are more/less conservative than others. The conservatives in Pakistan are a strong force, and they want to keep the country away from Western liberal ideas/cultures.

From least conservative to most: Lebanon > Turkey > Indonesia > Pakistan > Iran (politically) .... > KSA/Afghanistan

Obviously I skipped over many Muslim countries but just to give you an ideological example.

You are both correct. When they were first attempting to found Pakistan, they came up with a partial acronym that evoked as many positive emotions from as many local people and languages as possible, like people marketing a new model of car. For example, "Stan" means home in several local languages. It was thought up by exiled intellectuals living in France, so it was probably influenced by Western marketing concepts. Good job too.
