Effect of wardrobe?

My job comps me with gift cards to high-end clothing merchants. I can attire myself in Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, Armani Exchange, Coach, etc without spending a dime of my own cash. I've never had much inclination towards dressing fashionably (basketball shorts and a t-shirt is my standard outfit) but I'm interested in perspective as to what impact an expensive, well put together wardrobe would have on my SMV.

High-end is the likes of Balenciaga, Dior, Tom Ford and Versace, the above is mid-range.

As for your question, if you searched the forum, you'd see that it's a net positive, especially if you're a t-shirt and basketball shorts guy.

Good well fitting clothing is worth the investment, just like spending time at the gym, being well read and having interesting hobbies that make you an all around interesting person thus desirable.

I don't think brands are that important, but good styling, good fit etc makes a difference. Also dressing a little better like wearing a sport coat is suit pays dividends; people assume you are high status

This.

If you are starting to build a wardrobe in your early 30s, don't get caught up on name brands. You should own a blazer (or 2) that can be used for various occasions. I grab a blazer I own and throw it on over a solid color tee and some nice jeans at times for happy hours. Other times, a blazer overtop a button down shirt is enough for drinks with a plate.
