Who should play (the new) Jack Reacher?

@Trumpian, yes! that guy looks immense and fits the bill perfectly! 'Biggest man in the room' right there;

Probably matches my mental image of Reacher better than anyone else so far;

I concur with this. I liked many Reacher books, they are fiction so why all the hooplah with the other commentators?

"a fun, easy, light read"? As I said above, I read one Jack Reacher book, the one with the square plain-Jane middle-aged Asian lady (who steals Reacher's heart [Image: dodgy.gif] ), and the bad rednecks doing (very original plot) snuff movies. It was not fun, not easy, and certainly no light read.

warning , spoilers

The book was (very) slow-paced, sinister, depressing... Reacher used complex, half-assed and rather ludicrous strategies to destroy a whole town of red-necks all by himself, sure, rednecks are so stupid (#LondonersSmart, #redneckbad) [Image: tard.gif] - then we have an absolutely disgusting description of the medieval tortures from the snuff movies. No light read at all, all these tortures... Then at the end we have the bad red-neck being fed, agonizing, by Reacher to massive pigs, ouch. So, ok, nice. Please bring back Frederick Forsyth or let's read a good Tonny Hillerman!

So as I said, I could bet the excellent Tom Cruise read the last Reacher book, thought that it was bad and dark and not sexy, and intelligently abandoned ship. There must be better scenarios out there.

In any case, I contend that, in real life, it would be impossible for a super-Alpha warrior like Reacher to satisfy himself with a square plain-Jane middle-aged dour lady who's not even friendly.

Who should play (the new) Jack Reacher?

^ The last few Reacher books have definitely been dark as fuck. It comes to something when the ravages of heroin addiction are light compared to what's gone before.

The Reacher novels now are basically like AC/DC albums: the formula's not going to change, and if you're happy with that, then all's well. I basically want to read about Reacher punching people to death while saying awesome shit while being invincible. If I want to be challenged intellectually, I'll watch Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's latest proclamations.

I don't think Child is a bad writer at all, but being a bad writer is no barrier to success as long as you can tell a great story. I was up until 4am reading the last Reacher book in one go because I wanted to see what happened next. I had the same experience reading Dan Brown, even though I think some of his prose and dialogue is shit.

Mind you, I can't explain 50 Shades, which has neither a good story or strong writing.

Which one is that? I'd like to read it. Remember Reacher is living the life, smashing all sorts of lizards. It's fun at times to bang a lizard physically less appealing (in the dark) as long as she's wet and feels good around the wood, no?

I thought the movie had some extremely cold blooded killing too. I can only imagine the scenes in the books

Who should play (the new) Jack Reacher?

Who are you selling your books to? This is a wall I come up against every time I get 10 or 20k words into a story.

The vast majority of people are blue-pill chumps who don't fantasise about becoming red-pill. They fantasize about kicking the crap out of people who don't have the same core values as them.

Writing genuine red-pill fantasy only appeals to a very narrow audience. You can play tricks, for instance by making your main character blue-pill and teaming him up in some way with a red-pill character who actually gets results (Luke and Solo) but it's always going to be a massive compromise. The first time your main character openly negs a precious wahmen the white knights are going to drop a 1 star review en-masse.

The irony is that if you assumed a female pen name then you could write "romance" novels that can functionally delve into pseudo-rape-porn and you'd rake in cash hand over fist if not for the sheer glut of content in that field.

It's not beyond consideration for me to start writing shit and getting my wife to publish it under her name. Even the edgier blue-pill faggots will buy that shit "because a woman wrote it, so it's not misogyny, it's an expression of her struggle".

as one writer said: Don't try and guess what the audience wants. They DOn't Know what they want. If they DID then they would already have created it and be entertaining themselves happily.

I seriously believe - write what you want, everything else comes afterward: having written a story that we are happy with and that others complain isn't marketable is a much better first step than trying to 2nd guess what the public wants - they don't know what they want and target audiences/markets isn't where we are going to get our artistic inspiration from.

Ya, that's wrong. They may not consciously know, but there are tropes and if you're in the genre and don't hit the expected tropes, you won't sell.

Yep. Lots of authors do that. Most of them sell a few hundred copies. Some of them accidentally write to a big market and do well. Even when writing to market you can still miss.

Writing without a market in mind is fine if you want it to be your hobby.

A great supporting point is Reacher, actually. There are a lot of very successful series that basically take the Reacher tropes and run with them. They deliberately set out to target the Lee Child readers with the same tropes, the same styles of cover, the whole thing.

Just PM'd you the title.

Now, if you want good action-suspense thrillers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Forsyth

You'll notice that Forsyth is ex-military, ex-intelligence, and naturally, is right-wing - so much so that when alt-Left Hollywood adapted his novel The 4th Protocol, they had to remove the political content.

Anyway, repped members who are interested in thrillers and the country of Colombia, can PM me if they want, and I'll tell them the title of one recently-published thriller that has a character way better and tougher than Reacher, plus the book reveals incredible insights on Colombia (and maritime counter-surveillance).

You didn't find the one Jack Reacher book you read a fun, easy and light read, no worries, that's your opinion and that's fine. We all like different things.
But the great thing about opinion mate, is that we all have one, and it's exactly that, an opinion, not the truth.
I'm not fussed that you don't rate the books but I'd prefer if you stopped trying to convert the rest of us. You've expressed your opinion, just leave it at that.
