Laptop can't connect to mobile hotspot

Figured there were enough IT guys on here to help me out. Tried google but couldn't find my answer.

I'm trying to connect my laptop to a mobile hotspot connection, but it doesn't work. When it connects it just says, "Secured. No internet" and on the wifi icon in the lower right corner there's a yellow exclamation point covering it.

I tried resetting the wireless on my phone, and resetting the modem/router, but no luck. Anyone know what the problem could be?

TIA.

Some services require you to buy separate data plans for a mobile hot spot. Do you have such a service?

Laptop can't connect to mobile hotspot

I have a similar problem. My new place doesn't have broadband yet so as a stopgap I got a cellular plan with 40 GB of data and I use a spare phone as a WiFi hotspot. Our phones and tablets can connect but my laptop won't. Windows' troubleshooting is useless in solving the problem. I may just have to tether if I want to surf with my computer rather than a tablet.

It's really hard to say exactly what is going on.

The best thing is that you try to connect your mobile hotspot with another laptop. If the problem persists, it has something to do with your operator, so you better contact them.

Same for you 666Scorpio. Try with another laptop, and see what happens. Also keep in mind that some laptops cannot connect to a wireless network, because they lack the required chip. For example, my Mom's brand new HP laptop did not have it, so I had to buy her a special USB receiver in order to allow her laptop to connect to wireless.

Secured, no internet sound like it's connected over wifi but can't go any further. To do some troubleshooting you need to run an IPCONFIG in a CMD prompt and see if it's at least getting an IP from the hotspot.

Sounds like a bad ip configuration if you're actually making the connection.

Cntrl+R
Type "Cmd" press enter
Type "ipconfig/release" press enter
Type "ipconfig/renew"

Try going to rooshv.com

No dice? Go to cmd again. "Ping google.com" if it doesnt returns there's a weird issue. If your computer cant resolve google.com there's a DNS issue. See *1

Cmd again. Type "ipconfig" enter. If There's a bunch of 0.0.0.0s under your local area network adapter somethings fucky with your hotspot. See *1

*1 Gonna have to look up how to configure your IP4 address manually with your version of windows, your phone, and your carrier as keywords for your search.

Good luck

If the hotspot is not connecting with the system, then I will suggest you to use a router to get a better WiFi connection through the router. You may also reset the router following the tips from how to reset linksys router and get an uninterrupted Internet.
