Do they really work? I need something to lift me up after work when I need to study for a test. Anything else I can try besides drugs?

Five Hour Energy is the best out there. Typical energy drinks are packed with sugar, calories, and all kinds of garbage that will make you fat and screw up your bowels later. They're terrible for you and addictive.

I've also used caffeine pills (in moderation) which are legal and available at drug stores... and sugar free redbull (with less success), not a big fan of coffee.

Just be ready when it wears off.

maybe try changing your daily diet to incorporate foods that give you more energy.
more fresh fruit and vegetables.
my ex always says she feels pumped up after a good run and feels more awake/alert after exercise....
try a run around the block or something if you dont wanna hit the sugar drinks or coffee...

You will get used to them fast. I used to drink around 3 Monsters a day in high school.

Not to mention it probably isn't good for your health or wallet.

Another thread mentioned Bee Pollen as an energy source, I bought some at GNC (pretty cheap $9 for 56 servings) and I'm completely off caffeine

It works. And its cheap. A Red Bull costs 2 bucks, this is 16 CENTS per serving.

Its a much "happier" energy as well. I blame caffeine for making me edgy, this feels more normal.

I took a 5 hour energy shot last night after dinner and a jog. It got me up and I studied hard for 2 hours. It wore off after those 2 hrs and I was sleepy as fuck but it was 2 am.

I took another shot today around noon on an empty stomach. This time I felt like I snorted some white. I got real ansy, felt my eyes dilating, hot and clammy hands, stomach felt like I had to either shit or puke but it didn't know which to choose.

I doubt that you can find it in Houston (except maybe in natural food stores), but I highly recommend Yerba Mate. It is a caffeinated tea that is from South America and is the most popular drink in Argentina, it's got really good effects, makes you more awake, alert, energetic, without the jittery feeling, stomache issues, and crash and burn that you get with coffee.

I personally drink mate every day, there is a company called Guayaki that makes 100% organic mate drinks using fair trade mate, they have multiple different fruit/lemon/mint infused drinks, I'm pretty sure you could order it online off amazon.com

Here's a link to their site:

I've also heard about bee pollen, other natural energy alternatives are Maca (a south american leaf), and spirulina (blue-green algae).

Redbull and all those artificial energy drinks make my stomache feel all fucked up, plus I "crash and burn" hard off them, therefore I never drink them.

Exercise and eat right, drink lots of cold water and get a good sleep, get some sex before the sleep just to make the sleep better.

I drink the Lo-Carb or Absolutely Zero Monsters if I need a pick me up. Whoever said they're expensive and addictive is right so I try to avoid them unless I am really dragging. I got hooked on them over the summer when I was working long landscaping shifts. They work well but if I drink a few of them I get the same experience as Houston listed above.

I would like to get off of them completely though and plan on checking out some of the alternatives already mentioned.

I wanted to start a thread on this, but it looks like Houston beat me to it. Sometimes at work after running around for hours I tend to lose focus. My job requires me to be cognizant of what I'm doing at all times. Energy drinks have become a big part of my life. Sure, people will argue that if you workout, eat right, and get your Z's you should sleep like a baby. Not me. It's rare I get to bed before 2AM. There are quite a few good options without unnecessary sugar like Rockstar Punched and Red Bull Zero. Today I found a new one that I'm loving. Usually I stay away from the Monster brand, but a friend brought this in to work for me today and I loved it. It's the new Monster Zero Ultra. The can actually feels like it's been engraved. No joke. I almost felt guilty opening it. The taste is light citrus, not too sweet, but just sweet enough. It's lightly carbonated. Also, no sugar at all. It's a must try for you energy drink fans out there.

Houston, if you still have some interest in this topic here are some herbel and natural remedies that I have tried & recommend. Here they are: 1. Korean Ginseng Root (improves blood flow, gives energy, fights fatigue, boosts immune system). Comes in capsule form or tea, my preference is tea. 2. Winter Cherry aka Ashwaghanda (weird name i know). This strengthens immunity, enhances sexual stamina, increases vitality, & apparantly has anti-imflammatory effects. Again this is a consumed as a tea. 3. Guarana- flower native to Brazil which bears fruits similar to coffee beans but have twice the caffeine content. I particularly enjoy the soft drink that bears the same name. I also did some research and found out that Guarana, because of its high caffeine content, quickly produces energy by stimulating the adrenal glands. Numbers 1 &2 can be purchased at any herbal goods store. I dont know if Guarana is available or not in Houston. If you have a Portuguese, Spanish, or Brazilian section down there browse around.

***You may get some diarrhea from Korean Ginseng but it's not likely. As for Ashwaghanda as long as you take small doses for a short period of time you shouldnt experience any side effects. I never had any. As for Guarana I only had the soft drink. No side effects and pretty delicious.

Just tried that recently and it is awesome. Better than the original Monster Zero. Use to drink that stuff like it was water, but I have limited it down to once a week a best. Made a small impact on my wallet too.

Dude it's like a $6 per day habit for me right now and I'm feeling it. That's roughly $42 per week on energy drinks. Crazy.
