It was never ever a single country before 1947. It was and has always been a bunch of different kingdoms with different people that we united in various ways by various muslim rulers and the british over the past 1000 years
"India was never a single country before 1947" is a notion that has been purposefully taught and implanted through British educational system in India, and then continued by India's leftists. It suited their divide and rule policy to maintain hegemony, without any consideration for facts.
1) India has always been a geographical unity (i.e. country)
- Natural boundaries - North: Himalayas, South: Indian Ocean, West: Himalayas & Arabian Sea, & East: mountainous borders of Burma & Bay of Bengal
- Due to the natural boundary with other countries and ease of access within the Indian boundaries, people, ideas, thoughts, philosophy, and customs were exchanged very often form north to south and east to west. And that is why a unique India culture was developed. Hence, India has also always been a nation
2) Historical sources
- Manusmriti & Arthashastra clearly mentioned that Aryavarta (ancient name of India) stretches from the Himalayas to the Hind Mahasagar (Indian Ocean)
- In Mahabharat and Ramayan, important characters like Gandhari was from modern-day Afghanistan, Shree Krishna belonged to UP, Draupadi was from Jammu and Kashmir, Arjun married to the princess of Naga kingdom (Nagaland & Manipur)
- Mauryan Empire united the Indian landmass under one politicak unity in around 300 BCE
- 4 Dhams of Shankaracharya. Shankaracharya did not unknowingly establish the "chaar dhaams" in the four directions of India?
- Al-Barauni describes the borders of India starting at Chabahar (Iran) in west to beyond Karakoram in north, upto the end of land (Hind Mahasagar)
- All Greeks, Persians, Chinese, Arabs, & Europeans travelers, traders, and scholars identified the land between the above mentioned boundaries as India, for thousands of years
- The European countries formed East "India" Companies to trade with India
- Where was Columbus sailing to?
For most of Indian history, the political union was not very important. The nation was united more by social systems than political systems. Whoever rules at the top has always been skating at the surface. India has always been a nation and a country, but never a sovereign state.
- Think about this, India added Sikkim in the 1970s and Siachen in 1980s. Does that mean that India didn’t exist before these additions?
- Germany and Italy were never a country as we know today, but a result of geography
- The China as we know today never existed before 1949, Uughyur, Tibet, & Inner Mongolia etc. had same relation to China as the different kingdoms had to India
So, what reasoning is accepted for Germany, Italy, China, and qualify these as countries, how can the same reasoning not true for India?
