Female Harvard professor says coconut oil is PURE POISON

Harvard professor says that coconut oil is pure poison and one of the worst foods you can eat in a lecture that she give in German. She didn't give any evidence of her claim except to say that it is high in saturated fat, even higher than butter! It will clog your arteries!

Again, she provides no direct evidence of this claim that coconut oil is literally poison, but it's common medical knowledge that saturated fat is bad for you. It's why Americans are dying of heart disease at shocking rates, not because of any other diet change that may have happened in the past 50 years.

The professor doesn't states to use olive oil and rapeseed oil instead. Yeah, I'm sure she loves rapeseed!

Quote:Quote:

A 50-minute German lecture becoming a viral hit on YouTube might sound unusual, but the title of the talk by Karin Michels, the director of the Institute for Prevention and Tumor Epidemiology at the University of Freiburg and a professor at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, has caused a bit of a stir online.

During the lecture, titled "Coconut Oil and other Nutritional Errors," Michels has made herself very clear with regard to dietary recommendations, and underlined that coconut oil is not healthy.

Its superfood status had already come under scrutiny last year after the American Heart Association (AHA) updated its guidelines, which recommended that people avoid the saturated fatty acids found in coconut oil.

Michels went a step further than to recommend avoiding the foodstuff, saying "coconut oil is pure poison" and "is one of the worst foods you can eat."

There's no study showing significant health benefits to coconut-oil consumption. And, according to Michels, coconut oil is more dangerous than lard because it almost exclusively contains saturated fatty acids, ones that can clog the coronary arteries. You can identify fats that contain large quantities of saturated fatty acids by checking to see whether they remain solid at room temperature, as is the case with butter or lard.

Based on the fact that they contain a lot of unsaturated fatty acids, experts recommend olive or rapeseed oil as an alternative, and while it can't be used for cooking, flaxseed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and is just as good for the body.

While Michels doesn't describe other "superfoods" like acai, chia seeds, or matcha as harmful, at most she considers them ineffective because, in most cases, the nutrients they're touted for are available just as readily in other foods that are more easily accessible such as carrots, cherries, and apricots.

"We are well and sufficiently supplied," she said.

Man I've used coconut oil to heal dandruff, skin ailments, cuts, toothaches, and all kinds of shit.

If it fixes problems with my body, then I know it works for me, regardless of what the cult of academia tells me.

That “poison” I put in my morning coffee keeps my macros in line (60%+ calorie intake from fat). 2 years of doing so;

40+ lbs of painless weight loss
Chronic migraines gone
Return of normal free T levels.
Triglycerides went down to 72
Excellent HDL:LDL ratio (was really bad before the diet change)
250% increase in sperm count.

The war against fat intake was heavily promoted by vegetarian zealots. By attacking fat (saturated fat), the goal was to force people to give up animal meat consumption. Attacking a non animal fat source, coconut oil ,was done to mask their bias.

^^I would argue there's an ongoing war against natural health foods in general.

For example, on August 1st, Google whacked a bunch of natural health websites like Mercola, Organic Facts, Chris Kresser, Wellness Mama, etc. These websites all got destroyed in the search rankings, and lost a HUGE portion of their readership.

TPTB are becoming increasingly desperate to control the narrative.

I bet we'll start hearing about more professors pushing Monsanto's agenda. Gotta keep the sheep fat, sick and lazy.

Just another salesperson for the sugar, grain seed oil industries/big-food companies. I can agree on the carrots, cherries and apricots part, but it`s sad that we still have to debate this. It`s pretty much settled science at this point.

Saturated fats from a good source is in fact protective against CVD, since it does not produce inflammation in the body, nor does it promote glycation, both of which will lead to the accelerated stiffening of arteries. Also the LDL itself will be glycated, making it sticky basically. This causes (with age) atherogenic plaque and CVD. Also importantly, sat fats actually elevates HDL. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC288145/

Saturated fats do increase LDL levels, but also seem to increase the particle size. (There are many subtypes of LDL) It`s really the very small particles that are problematic.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9583838

Also;
"As compared with the High-Sat diet, the Low-Fat diet raised triglyceride levels and significantly reduced plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol."
http://europepmc.org/abstract/MED/3951504

It`s not a point to eat just sat fat of course. It`s really the source that matters, and your nutritional needs. If you`re obese, yes I would go on a high fat diet, including a lot of sat fat. If you`re lean an active then do more nutrient dense carbs, like sweet potatoes. It should also be mentioned that there are many people now that have been on a strict Paleo diet with much sat fat for many decades, and they do much better that the average population. Loren Cordain, Art de Vany, Mark Sisson, Gary Taubes, Nora Gedgaudas, Ron Rosedale, Michael Eades to mention a few of the older guard.

So coconut oil is "pure poison" according to this "professor" [Image: catlady.gif]. Note that they disabled comments in the lecture video.
Before you know it, they'll start promoting processed sugar as an "elixir of youth", trans fats are good & mystery GMOs are the new "futuristic super food".

When you can't tell the difference between an article from satirical outlets like 'The Onion', and an article from traditional news outlets, the total strangeness of things will be at its peak.

This is a surprisingly new low even for Harvard. You'd think they wouldn't have professors completely brainwashed in the area of nutrition in 2018.

The big critique of coconut oil she could have discussed is its high ratio of omega 6 (no omega 3) making it potentially more inflammatory than other fats, but she didn't even get to this near entry-level college nutrition class detail.

(from my write up on cooking oils here)

Mind you this post is not to critique coconut oil...I use it all the time. But that would be a fairly basic place to start.

Yeah - Big Pharma and Big Tech not only moved against Alex Jones, but many so-called alternative doctors like Dr. Axe and Dr. Mercola who ware hugely successful.

https://articles.mercola.com/sites/artic...ealth.aspx

Here Dr. Mercola on coconut oil - studies at the bottom of the article:

Quote:Quote:

Saturated fats, and most particularly coconut oil, are an important part of the human diet. Recent research suggests coconut oil may help control Crohn’s disease by improving your gut microbiome
Studies show coconut oil also supports healthy thyroid function, promotes heart health and healthy brain function, boosts immune function and energy, aids weight loss and much more
Coconut oil is an excellent choice for cooking, as it can resist heat-induced damage. Processed vegetable oils produce oxidized cholesterol and toxic cyclic aldehydes and acrylamide when heated
Bulletproof coffee is a brain-boosting high-performance beverage you can easily make by adding MCT oil or coconut oil and grass fed, unsalted butter or ghee to black, organic coffee
Coconut oil can also replace a number of pricy and potentially hazardous personal care products, including moisturizers, hair masks, shaving lotion, cleansers and makeup removers, body scrub, toothpaste and much more

The funny part is that the consumers for coconut oil forced retailers to offer coconut oil as a staple fat - after years and years of missing on hundreds of millions of profits as people bought coconut oil from the internet, because hardly anyone had it listed (at least when European countries were concerned).

They begrudgingly and with clenched teeth had to react, because it became too popular. Anyone who changes his cooking oil especially from those moronic rapeseed oils and other truly toxic oils either to animal based or coconut knows the difference in general health. You even have an instant reaction if you eat something conventionally fried at a restaurant.

Nice song on canola oil:

In addition to the difference of how our body deals with it you have to alsco account for the pesticides contained in most corn, canola and rapeseed oil products. You get your Roundoup on top of it.

What's the overall health profile of MCT oil like, since that's a non-naturally occuring fat-possibly even more so than the stuff used in margarines, albeit from coconut?
I've tried it in "smart" coffee a few times-wasn't that taken. For me the most interesting part was the oil, a fat that's absorbed like a sugar. It doesn't seem to have had as much vilification; is it just not researched?

I've been using organic virgin coconut oil as an effective sunblock skin lotion for a fairly long time for my field work in the tropics.
I use the same coconut oil when cooking half boiled eggs or beef liver. Tastes fantastic.
Currently use it in my coffee as well, blended together with pure ghee butter and a pinch of sea salt and cinnamon. Keeps me going 8+hours without any food cravings. My brain feels energized and able to concentrate on both mentally demanding and physical tasks for long periods. of the day. There's also a calmness I feel instead of jittery withdrawals from my previous black only coffee consumption. I don't know if the coconut oil has anything to do with it but I'll take my correlated finding of feeling and performing better with coconut oil consumption over this Professor's claim.

I read a newspaper article on this and thought "Who knows, it's quite a surprise but maybe there's some new scientific insights that will make me change my mind".

That lasted until the end of the article, where they recommended healthy vegetable oils as the much superior alternative.

Healthy vegetable oils

Healthy vegetable oils

Healthy vegetable oils

I ate a spoonful of coconut oil immediately after reading that.

Use some common sense.

Believing what any authority tells you is for normies.

Go nuts with da coconut for 6 weeks. Measure your triglycerides, inflammatory markers, CBC.

Compare with previous markers and you have your answer.

Anything that starts with "Female professor says" can only end up in bullshit. That is as if you would expect anything sound to come from: "Our Lysenkoist comrade says....".

The only other sentence that begins with "Female professor" is when they found another banging her student.

Her femsplaining healthy vegetable oils to us on top of high-carb dietary recommendations for decades is really funny.

An interesting theory states that coconut oil can prevent of Alzheimer's disease.

https://articles.mercola.com/sites/artic...imers.aspx

Quote:Quote:

'Brain Starvation' Is a Hallmark of Alzheimer's Disease
One of the primary fuels your brain needs is glucose, which is converted into energy.

The mechanism for glucose uptake in your brain has only recently begun to be studied, and what has been learned is that your brain actually manufactures its own insulin2 to convert glucose in your blood stream into the food it needs to survive.

As you may already know, diabetes is the condition where your body's response to insulin is weakened until your body eventually stops producing the insulin necessary to regulate blood sugar, and your body's ability to regulate (or process) blood sugar into energy becomes essentially broken.

Now, when your brain's production of insulin decreases, your brain literally begins to starve, as it's deprived of the glucose-converted energy it needs to function normally. This is what happens to Alzheimer's patients -- portions of their brain start to atrophy, or starve, leading to impaired functioning and eventual loss of memory, speech, movement, and personality.

snip

Alternate Brain Food Can Stop Brain Atrophy in Its Tracks
Fortunately, your brain is able to run on more than one type of energy supply, and this is where coconut oil enters the picture.

There's another substance that can feed your brain and prevent brain atrophy. It may even restore and renew neuron and nerve function in your brain after damage has set in.

The substance in question is called ketone bodies or ketoacids.

Ketones are what your body produces when it converts fat (as opposed to glucose) into energy. And a primary source of ketone bodies are the medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) found in coconut oil!

snip

In fact, ketones appear to be the preferred source of brain food in patients affected by diabetes or Alzheimer's.

"In Alzheimer's disease, the neurons in certain areas of the brain are unable to take in glucose due to insulin resistance and slowly die off, a process that appears to happen one or more decades before the symptoms become apparent," Dr. Newport states in her article.4

"If these cells had access to ketone bodies, they could potentially stay alive and continue to function."

Why is there always this implicit assumption that <insert Harvard/MIT/Stanford> professors / researchers are so talented and smart that there recommendations/conclusions should be taken over years of empirical evidence of the opposite.

Coconut oil works for tons of people and has myriads of applications. This professor thinks the opposite, it's bullshit.

It used to be the case they attracted the best people - but that was before the push for female and various diversity, before the push for ever greater nepotism in elite colleges - and before the hard-left agenda-driven corporate-bought destruction of knowledge. Big corporations are giving colleges like Harvard sometimes 10-30 mio. $ in donations. If I was as generous as that, then they would be writing some good opinion pieces on me. Plus the universities now fire even Nobel price winners if they oppose the status quo like some who said that women have less interest in STEM subjects due to biological determinants or are less talented in other fields.

Coconut/animal fats vs "healthy" vegetable oils is ridiculous - on the one side a multi-billion dollar agro-industry plus added benefit of making people sick and earning double on the backside, reducing population, not paying pensions so long as people die sooner vs - not making as much money and having a more healthy population.

The incentives that are behind backing the first less healthy option are overwhelmingly in favor of HEALTHY VEGETABLE OILS.
