Moldova Spring 2018 Datasheet 14 days into a 90 day frolic

Quick overview:

Chisinau is indeed a small sleepy city so if you're a 7 days a week party type or have less than a few days to stay I would NOT recommend it. It’s a hidden gem for people with the ability for longer term stays. Also a ONS or SNL is not out of the question here.

Clubs in the city are pretty much non-existent, and locals seem to come in social circles but they are very open to foreigners joining them for a fun venue hop or just a chat. Nightlife is almost exclusively lounges, and there isn't a lot of unaccompanied women out - you usually find them in groups but in most cases they are not dating (a lot of friend zoned guys with girls.)

I think this is a bar game city so far. I've been here for around 14 days but I have close to one year experience overall in the country over the past few years. I also easily make friends and play social circle game. My friend is a recovering beta and did marginally okay on Ukraine it'll interesting to see how he does in Moldova long term.

Language:

Language is a weird situation - Either people speak “Moldovan” (Romanian) or Russian and or Turkish...and most speak both if not all three. Signs are mostly in Romanian, but restaurant menus usually list two of the three along with english. If you head South it’s Ganguz which is a mixture of Turkish, Russian and Romanian which is remnants of the Ottoman Empire due to economic isolation. So be prepared for a adventure in language.

Despite past reports, English penetration is pretty good as my travel buddy only speaks Spanish and English which I think gives him an advantage with Romanian (English here is much more widely spoken than Central or Eastern Ukraine) I’d suspect due to the Peace Corps presence and study/work abroad programs. I speak decent Russian which is useful as well. I think someone who only speaks English will do fine here since both of us have survived without using translator apps.

Restaurants usually have English menus printed up, and waiters / bartenders are quick to help offer recommendations if they don’t have one around.

Costs:

Despite being noted as the poorest country in Europe in general, the capital city of Chisinau or Kishinev will be more expensive than most cities in Ukraine and is closer to Kiev prices. As of this writing, Moldovan Lei (MDL) was about twice the value of Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH). Dinner for two along with 3-4 drinks a person usually comes to between 600-1000 MDL ($36 - $60 USD). Drinks at a bar are between 50-100 lei. Hotels can easily be 60 Euro a night for basic accommodations. All is negotiable if you feel the need to barter.

Taxis:

Yandex-Taxi App is going to be your best way to travel. About as convenient as a ride-sharing app, you can generally get a taxi within 5-10 minutes. Really late nights or off nights, you sometimes have to hail down a “gypsy cab” on the street. I caught a few of these when Yandex failed, and it takes 10-20 minutes standing on a busy street before one stops. Both rides were 50 lei regardless of distance, and ironically both were 5-series BMWs. Hotels and bartenders will call you a taxi if you ask, but they usually just use Yandex.

Pharmacies:

Similar experience to Ukraine. Pharmacies are everywhere, and most are closed by 22:00. There are 24 hour places, but you will have to walk a little. Controlled substances require something like a prescription. Drugs are mostly from Romania, with some items coming in from Russia. TIP - google the generic version of any medication, and start looking for the brand names distributed through Russia or the Baltic countries. Pharmacists usually know what you are asking for if you use a Brand name, even if they are sold under a different label.

Helpful to know - Sildenafil (generic of Viagra) can be found everywhere without a prescription. 50 mg tablets are a secret weapon to have on you at the club or bar.

Day-game:

Boulevard Stefan cel Mare, Park Katedralny, Botanica.

My buddy and I didn't explore these options too much, but Malldova, Grand Hall (kind of like AvePlaza in Kharkiv, Ukraine) and Atrium are three shopping centers you can try for picking-up.

Accommodations:

Airbnb is by far the best option - plenty of listings, fair prices, and logistics help with local talent. The city center isn't large, and you can get almost anywhere by taxi for 30 lei at the time of this post.

Radisson Blu - (for high rollers) typical high-quality western hotel, located right in the heart of the city. Stayed here one night, and it certainly meets all your needs. Beware the bar and lounge is mostly pros and semi pros.

Hotel Cosmos - this place is old-school soviet which has been mentioned before on the forum. It was probably the height of fashion in 1984, but the rooms haven't been changed since. My friend and I stayed for 4-5 nights, and literally found bullet holes in the mattress of one of the rooms we stayed in. WiFi kept cutting out, but staff is friendly and accommodating.

Generally, this is a hotel you come to just to tell stories about later. I did find and collect an old 1980's inactive soviet bug which is a pretty cool souvenir. We tried out several different rooms on upper floors. The 10th floor is the only "renovated floor" all other floors still have non working rotary phones so no room service.

Long-term Rentals:

Check out 999.md for long-term apartment rentals. I had a local help go through the listings because of all the Romanian, but this is definitely the cheapest way to go. Take a look at sections outside center city: Botanica, Riscani, and Buiucani. They are all within a short taxi ride back to the center, and all have everything you need to live - groceries, restaurants, bars, etc.
1 bedroom apartments in city center or Botanica in a nice building should be 300-400 Euros per month.

Bars:

Barbar - Really seems to be the only game in town. Owner pulls in the ladies, and he spits some solid game himself. I ran into him one night at the bar, and he looks like a tattooed Jerry Garcia - real clown-game level shit. Fridays and Saturdays are the nights to come, and get there around 12 when it starts picking up. DJs played mostly 90s hip hop. Talent is very solid. It will not disappoint anyone.

Whos Cocktail Bar - Open all night, this place has a decent setup but is generally quiet. Good place to head with a group of people late night.

Restaurants:

Madame Wong - Awesome Asian food and good cocktails. The owner/bartender is an awesome guy who showed us around the city almost immediately. Food here is solid, and it’s a good place for a 2nd or 3rd date.

Smokehouse - American BBQ and craft beer place owned by a former American Peace-corp worker and some Moldovan partners. Food is consistent, and it attracts any american within the borders of Moldova. Tables and general setup works really well if you want to hang out with a group. Tuesday Night trivia is good for meeting Westerners and connecting with larger groups.

Toro - Moldovan steak and wine restaurant on Strada Armeneascu. Probably best local meat you can find around Chisinau for a restaurant. Recommend the grilled calf tenderloin cooked over charcoal or veal. Wine selection is also excellent. Good meetup spot for a date.

Lud’s Pub - Classic Burger and Beer spot. Has a bunch of tables with good views of central square. Saw a guy playing mini-oligarch game here with two 8s. Was a local tatted up skinny hipster carrying around his Mercedes key fob for everyone to see.

Jack's Bar & Grill - One of the few 24 hour places in Chisinau, this standard place is just around the corner from Hotel Cosmos and across from Sky Bar. Food is nothing particularly special.

Eli Pili - Another 24 hour restaurant/lounge that is a little more local flavor than Jack's. Close to the Parliament and center city. Lot's of food choices after everything else in town closes.

The Penthouse Cafe - Open all night, good lounge and bar with an outdoor patio. Located just off the main Boulevard Stefan cel Mare, there's usually people around until 3-4 am. It's a little more upscale, so there is potential for pulling 7-8s here from groups. (good place to suit up)

Lounges:

Solaris - An underground lounge and DJ spot next to Bar Valentina on Strada Mihai Eminescu, this is popular spot with local artists. Open late, it’s a good place to spend time with locals.

Sky Bar - Pretty much all pro's and semi-pro's. (Next to Cosmos)

Mojito - Decent food but bad for meeting people.

Across the street from Mojito is Cocos Prive which is a decent spot Thursday - Saturday

Teatrum - across the alley from a strip club called The Secret is very good for gaming Friday - Saturday.

Drive is closed permanently which has been noted as a good spot in other Moldova datasheets.

Other Things to do for Fun:

Shooting Range - Magnum Shooting Club in Botanica - about a 10 minute cab from city center. The guys working here are pretty cool. They’ve got a limited selection of pistols and semi-automatics to shoot, but it’s enough to keep most people entertained. Cost is also surprisingly cheap - less than $100 for 2-3 hours and 5 different weapons including ammo.

Sauna - Local people invited my friend and I out to a 24-hour sauna, which we later found out is a common place to hang out and drink if you are with Moldovan men (not a gay thing) just a local nuance good way to build a social circle and talk about female conquest while completely hammered drunk.

Wine Tasting - Cricova is one of the more famous wineries in Moldova, it is just a little outside of Chisnau to the North. Another, MILEŞTII MICI, is a government-regulated winery a short drive south of Chisnau that is famous for kilometers of underground wine cellars you can drive your car through.

You can rent a car and drive around the country for pretty cheap. I’d suggest heading down to Komrat which is very boring but a fun exotic travel experience, (think Borat)

Transnistria -

Transnistria (a non IMF recognized sub state which has very good talent in Bender and Tiraspol which is a fun Soviet throwback up north near Dubasari you can feel a western god factor but I would only recommend Transnistria for Russian speakers or guys with more extensive exotic travel experience capable of handling authorities if approached. Foreign travelers have been hassled by border patrols - anything from getting shaken down for a bribe, to extensive questioning by authorities. Northern Moldova / Northern Transnistria can be dangerous, because it is known for being an unofficial weapons trading hub.

Activities like taking pictures can range from anything to putting a dent in your wallet, the loss of your phone or worse: land you in custody.

That said it’s generally pretty safe for experienced travellers otherwise. But not much going on otherwise. I see no point in visiting Transnistria for girls specifically.

NOTE:
Chisinau is a Thursday, Friday, Saturday city without much late-night options. Grocery stores to buy alcohol, mixer or cigarettes almost all close by 23:00 or 00:00.

Girls - TLDR it's not Paradise but nor is Ukraine or Romania for that matter.

They tend to be very nice and receptive as long as you're not an idiot or tree sloth as with most girls in Eastern Europe.

English levels are decent even with top talent unlike Ukraine and comparable to Romania. I'm sure major cities in Romania you'll have more talent to access as the population is lower here. But if you're looking for a better bang for your buck Eastern Romania, Moldova and Ukraine seem like better choices. As other guys on here have noted the farther East you go in Romania the hotter the girls seem to get and I agree with this sentiment.

Here you can also find Slavic looking girls as well so there is no real consistent look. It's all mixed up so girls look either, Turkish, Russian or Romanian or a mix of the three. Also I'm around a 4 hour drive from Odessa so I can't see how girls can get less attractive by a large margin 4 hours apart. It's no Odessa in the summer but a lot here go to Odessa to party in the summer so I'm sure a few guys on here have banged a Moldovan thinking she was Ukrainian.

The quality here seems to match my observations in West Ukraine as I spent about a year working in Odessa and have been to Lviv for a few short jaunts.

Sex Tourist everywhere in Eastern Europe but I can say I see a lot less here so far than in Ukraine although I live in Eastern Ukraine and I think the conflict has driven most sex tourist else where. I actually don't count them when I go out as sex tourist really have not posed much of a threat to me but then again I'm good at relaying a solid believable reason for being pretty much anywhere plus I run in social circles which most would agree is the best way to game anywhere in the EE. I've also had more success when I've run Solo here than in Ukraine or Romania as there are enough bars and lounges for that.

No: the top girls have not all left I see solid talent everyday and plenty Thursday - Saturday at night. There is not a shortage of them here. Also no shortage of awful looking dudes. The guys here are some of the most busted I've ever seen in Eastern Europe.

Conversations and receptiveness has been very good by much higher quality girls than I have had in Ukraine. But yes there are more high quality girls in Ukraine. Honestly I don't know how to measure this statistically as taste in a lot a things differ man to man.

I like skinny girls of any hair color, ages 21 - 27 and don't care much about tit size and ass. Although right now I'm banging a 24 y/o student with a Columbia grade ass and decent tits with a tight body which is atypical of what I usually go for. But there is no shortage of my typical type.

Also note most girls here are of Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish or Romanian decent many have direct family and parents from all these places although my regular is a Georgian girl here for school.

Dating has been pretty easy here and not getting as many shit test other than the typical why are you here and for how long question plus the what do you do.

I tend not to over analyze countries. If I can land and fuck a girl in her mid twenties that is not a fat feminist with a bull ring in her nose then I'm usually happy pretty much anywhere you stick me outside of the West.

Also I typically do not like to boast much about my notches but I will say I've done very well here in 14 days and things seem to escalate to fucking a lot quicker here than in Ukraine and I'd say = to Romania in that sense. 1 - 2 dates for some girls 3 - 4 for others but all of mine have been 2 dates max so far but I'm sure with more time I'll encounter others who won't be so easy.

I really don't think most guys can go wrong anywhere in the EE unless language is an issue and for guys with zero Russian or Ukrainian abilities I'd rule out Ukraine and anywhere in Russia unless it's Moscow or SPB. I'd also rule out pretty much all of the EE for any guys with less than two weeks to dedicate to one city unless you are fine with sponsorship game or have something else special going on for you.

Last thing is I would not recommend Moldova to any first time travelers to EE. I've already almost had a few close calls with some guys wanting to throw down and fight for some reason or another. Never really had this happen in Ukraine or Romania. Could be that my male social circle here is pretty threatening when it comes to going out and approaching. They are not part of the busted dudes crews in the city. Moldavian's seem to not be as reserved to the idea of solving problems/insecurities with their fist. So be aware of this when approaching if you so choose to visit.

Moldovians are on the whole a rather dumb lot. I have witnessed many a fight in Chisinau, sometimes (in clubs) involving 15+ guys in each camp .....better double-check, or even triple-check, if there's no jealous local boyfriend around before missing up with the "wrong" girl. It's my rule N°1 in FSU (and especially in Central Asia, where guys are filled with testosterone and literally love to fight) ... local meatheads hate when foreigners try to steal their "prime" women.

That said, I find (or found, haven't been in Kish since 8 years) moldovians chicks very fun loving and always up for a party, much more so than ukrainian girls. Back in the days, atmosphere was quite crazy in Chisinau's bars and clubs .... maybe not as wild as in Russia, but very often there was so many hot and drunk sluts that you didn't have time to focus on one before the next attracted your attention ....or, if you were lucky, forced your attention.

Brilliant sheet as usual, no BS, great added value info, +1 for me.

Is City club still open ? ...was the best late-night option, open till 5/6am even weekdays.

I have not checked out City Club but will go see what its like tonight. Looks like it's walking distance from me.

Yeah and to add to other guys girls this is not really a city you can hide in. Which I think would make it very difficult to manage multiple girlfriends unless you're some kinda trained intelligence operative. I'm continuously bumping into the same people while out no matter where in the city I go. So if you expect it to be a place where you could fly under the radar you'd be foolish.

I feel like if one made the wrong enemies here this is the kinda place that would be rather difficult to escape. So if any reading this is the kinda guy that is prone to fighting when drinking I would highly recommend avoiding this country. Not like Ukraine where you can pay off security and throw down with some assholes.

I'm already on a first name basis with some police, military and high up government officials in less than a month. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

It's the kinda place if you wanted you could go meet the President and I'm not exaggerating.

Nice sheet i have been there around 10 years back or something for a short time. I guess you went by plane but damn that border patrol was a pain in the ASS. You won’t even encounter such madness in Africa. I had to wait until they wake up. They even tried to scam me but didnt succeed. For the rest i really didnt had time for clubbing and exploring the city, i visited one stripclub but it felt very shady. Women in the capital were above average. The food (fish) was shit tho.

I did ground boarder hops years ago here from Ukraine and Romania and had no issues personally but I don't doubt you had them as I've heard stories from others here having issues.

Food here beats Ukraine to shit. As a Ukraine resident all the sanctions have made finding good/fresh food very difficult unless you have the money to spend on a high end restaurant. Even good markets and I'm speaking for Kharkov and the East in general are pretty hit or miss. Here you can find cheap good quality vegetables, meat ect... No problem.

Moldova is a Agricultural hub so for foodies one should not have much trouble finding good food. A lot of cow farms so the Veal is almost always fresh and you can pretty much feel safe eating it rare. Sheep are big here as well so great place to buy socks or do a deliverance reenactment.

Also the wine here is off the chain. Stupid trivia: the Bordeaux region of France uses Moldova for grapes when they have bad years. Although I'm no sommelier I did live in France (regrettably) in my 20's and hung out with vapid/expert bullshitter wine connoisseurs.

The Duties and Excises for importing fresh fish in Moldova is pretty lax so finding fresh seafood is not hard.

I will not eat seafood in Ukraine unless you paid me to become bulimic for the night. I'll happily become a pro or simi pro eating raw fish in Ukraine for the right price.

If you're in Kiev, try Lyubshik (Podil area), seafood is awesome : http://borysov.com.ua/en/lyubchick ..... I'm a regular, never been disappointed (or sick lol).

There's also many great seafood venues in Odessa. Jardin comes to mind in the historic center, but there's many others. Even at Steakhouse (best venue - and terrace- on Deribasovskaya), mussels are very good and fresh. And this coming from a mediterranean guy who loves mussels.

Just thinking at deep fried Black Sea sprats (tsatsa - I know, it's a cheap fish, but what can I do, I love it), with a cold beer, I have my mouth watering.

Nice recs I'm going to be hopping back to Kiev briefly and will be trying your suggestions. I'll add Tarantino also in Podil (excellent Veal). I have an affinity for eating baby animals.

I think I might have eaten at Jardin (will go back when I get back to Odessa upon your suggestion)

As a skinny man I need some muscles.

Summer is coming!

Tarantino is a favorite of mine (with Kanapa, also in Podil). Excellent food quality, relaxing and enjoyable "posh" atmosphere - and as a cigar smoker I especially appreciate the terrace. If you're with a date, she will love it. Not for tight budgets though.

BTW same street, you have another great seafood restaurant, Ryba v Vogni (a seafood "posh" trattoria), opened two years ago by the owner of Steakhouse in Odessa. Not cheap also, but excellent.

I hung out with nola at Tarantino's, and it is definitely the best food I had in Kiev. Steaks were as good as anything I've had in the States. Also as a casual cigar smoker, they've got a smoking terrace out back past the grill through a back room. The staff use it for smoke breaks, but the bartender let me back there while I was there eating dinner. It's got a killer view of the street.

As for Moldova, I can confirm that there is some definite talent out on the streets in Chisnau. This place has got a lot of possibilities, and the women don't have anything like the princess complexes that you find in Ukraine. They don't act like they are the next prima ballerina of the Moscow Ballet.

Biggest smile I've ever had on my face were watching people and couples smoking a Pardon off the Terrace at Tarantino. (not a place to pick up girls)

SuperiorClimber is staying with me right now in Moldova. (only because he is stupid enough to travel with me)

Note for readers in Kiev (Terrace at Tarantino) walk to bar and about face: walk to back room. Grill will be on your right. Open door and turn left. Ask the bar tender, unless there is a private party he'll direct you.

Normal bar tender is a very nice guy (no english) I've seen him the past 6 months working there. Makes a excellent ginger tea. Tip him well (he is a good man).

Back to Moldova, I'm going to test 0300 am right now on a Saturday.

Not trying to bump my own thread just updating on my cultural learnings of Kishinev Moldova.

This is for sure a place to avoid if you're a long term traveler hoping to build a harem in a city. While it's not hard to meet, date and fuck good quality girls I'm becoming increasingly paranoid as I just got a message from my regular non native girl about texting with her friend who I snagged on tinder (which also is pretty inactive here)

Looks like I'll need to go back to my use and lose mentality rather than my having multiple girlfriends.

I've even befriended an Eskimo brother (guy the formally was fucking a girl I'm banging for guys who don't know the phrase)

Many girls in Ukraine are like sea turtles and tend to stick to their habitat or neighborhood so it's much easier to isolate and have more than one girl without the risk of getting caught.

This is not true for this city. You'll be playing a dangerous game if you accidentally stick your dick in crazy (which I've done here) and she finds out you're a habitual womanizer. To my luck my regular is bisexual and I've not had a lot of threesomes so it might be advantageous of me to take advantage of this.

Any other suggestions to date and fuck in stealth mode in a smaller city.? Everyone that is under 30 seems to gravitate to the same venues (only ones worth going to), even restaurants and cafes.

Another tactic I'm considering since this is a small country and hitting some villages since most will be a short drive if I can pull some local village talent. Although the last time I did this was in Ukraine and almost ended up getting murdered by the girls local thug father when he figured out where his daughter was going in the night.

Shit is getting hairy here (literally).. Sex tourist are flooding in the past week. There is game to still be played but effort levels and venue changes are getting more intense.

Some random American "wingman" I met here tried to hold my hand while our dates were getting lap dances so I quickly ejected with my girl and his ran off somewhere while we were waiting for a Taxi. It was later confirmed he is bisexual or gay a few days later when me and a couple of other forum members bumped into him at a club as we were leaving. We told him we were ejecting from the cockfest. He said (what's wrong with a bunch of dudes in a very gay way)

Still some notches to be obtained. I'm gonna stick it out another few weeks and maybe head to Cyprus. I need a vacation from EE.
