I'm finding it interesting so far. There's a purposeful blurring of the defining of just which side is the protagonist. Amazing, the raw span of time since the original clash, so it makes for a truly unique platform. Now, surely, someone must've considered bringing back Sensei Kreese, Mr. Silver, and Chozen. Really, that's gotta happen.

I think you're over analyzing Zel. The main emphasis in the series is the importance of a masculine authority or father in a boy's life. I'm only on episode 7 but so far it delivers.

Watched the first two episodes, really impressed by how much I'm enjoying this so far. Few TV shows (or movies) really grab me, but there's something special going on here.

I will be binge-watching the entire first season this week. I will provide my ever-important analysis shortly thereafter.

Finished this series in 2 days. Loved it.

Yes, there were some SJW elements sprinkled in, but that's almost to be expected nowadays. At least Johnny keeps it RP: "Girls aren't allowed to take Karate....for the same reason they aren't allowed in the Army: it doesn't make sense."

The only SJW crap I noticed was the obligatory "girl can physically handle herself against boys" narrative but it was at least shown in passing (except the ridiculous Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon move from Daniel's daughter). I felt all the gender-bending, one love, PC shit was very self-aware. If the writers intended for the audience to take their SJW "propaganda" seriously, they failed in a spectacular fashion...but I firmly believe they were in on the joke.

Overall, great series. Zabka and Macchio were surprisingly good comedic actors. Zabka's dry delivery verbal put-downs were especially great.

I watched two episodes last night. Fucking awesome.

I like that Johnny is the lead character. I hated him when I was a kid. But, looking back he wasn't a bad dude at all.

I like that Cobra Kai was everything to him and then it was all gone after he lost the "All-Valley" championship.

He was a champion and he couldn't reconcile how he lost to Larusso when he did everything "right".

And it's true, Larusso would only beat him in a movie.

34 years later this is what through him off course but he's still stuck in the 80s. Drives an 80s Trans Am. Listens to music from then, etc.

Also it's pretty funny in parts.

Spoiler alert below!

The part I thought was really funny was when he's watching an 80s movie I can't think the name of now and there's this monologue by a deceased character the main good guy is listening to on his walkman while he's flying a jet into combat (LOL).

Anyway Johnny is getting into the whole monologue, it's really resonating with him, and right when the guy is about to get to the point and wrap it all up Lurusso's Dealership commercial comes on with Danial doing all sorts of cheesy "chops" to "chop these prices".

Johnny is triggered big time by this!

A lot of other great parts and references. I hope this show does well, I think it will. They bash millennials the whole time.

Iron Eagle.

And yeah, the call backs to the 80's are throughout the series. YouTube Red is free for 30 days, so you can sign up and finish the series without paying a dime.

I think it's either in Episode 7 or 8 and Johnny talks about his relationship with Ally and how Daniel (the new kid) moved there and fucked everything up. It's kind of tongue-in-cheek of course, but it's interesting to see it from Johnny's perspective.

I watched the whole thing, damn that was good.

I'd heard the whole Danny was the villain theory before but Johnny's story about Ally sure made it seem plausible. The clips from the movie even support it!

So they took a 1980's cult classic that everyone had nearly forgotten about, and not only grew the existing characters in ways that value their original portrayals while moving them to the next legs of their journeys, but also introduced a "next gen" who take cues from the tone and spirit of the films while forming their own distinct identities, so you have a younger cast that's strong enough to carry the franchise forward, but room for the old cast to fulfill their stories and show they've still got it 30 years later.

And yet Disney cannot do this with Star Wars.

Cobra Kai is fucking great!
I feel like Johnny in the way that I´m also stuck in the 80s, culturally speaking.

Aside from a few exceptions, I don´t watch modern films or series.
Now, after having watched Cobra Kai, I know this revulsion has nothing to do with technology, but with the values they endorse.

Cobra Kai promotes everything we hold dear here in RVF: inner and outer strength, self reliance, discipline, the ability to change one´s life around after being dragged through the gutter, being able to speak the truth rather than appease SJWs.

The only things I truly didn´t like about the series were: the fat girl beating the boy and Daniel´s daughter being a super badass ninja while her brother is a fat gamer nerd instead of the real heir to the karate kid.
Fortunately, girl power scenes are really brief and don´t have any real weight in the plot.
There´s a positive female character in Daniel´s wife, who´s shown as being a good home maker as well as beautiful and a good support to her husband´s company.

Cobra Kai is a masculine show for normal, straight guys.

The yuge success it´s reaping (18 million views in a week) is proof people are fed up with SJWism, feminism and political correctness.

Taking Louis Gossett Jr.'s speech in Iron Eagle and applying it to Johnny's modern character was brilliant.

Daniel's wife may be the best portrayal in the series. The marriage, in general, was shown to be very positive. She helped with his business, wasn't a know-it-all bitch, or a super career woman/do it all mom, and didn't talk down to Daniel (something common in nearly all TV shows). You could see a genuinely respectful marriage of complementary partners. Daniel was never an immature buffoon needing his wife to play mother and he wasn't a sex-starved thirsty simp fawning over her every breath.

Add Johnny's complete red-pill life and you have a near perfect series of real life/red pill truths. The passing glimpses of girl karate badassery notwithstanding.

Bill & Ted 3 also got green-lit, so there's hope that will be good as well.

Great show! But it's all about the writing...

Ever since the Sopranos, Breaking Bad and Mad Men, writers have received a new found respect for their work. The actors seem almost secondary. They are basically just conduits for the great scripts and screen writing that's been done over the last almost 20 years.

Formats like Netflix, Amazon and now YouTube Red along with cable have revolutionized how we watch films nowadays.

We are truly living in interesting times as we are witnessing a renaissance in great story telling.....

I found it to be near-flawless. Chiefly, the manner in which the original material is paid homage to, cleanly interwoven into the new montages. After having followed along with a show like The Walking Dead, where you feel like throwing a bottle through the TV at the end of every other episode, Cobra Kai does its job, bringing you want you want to see.

After several weeks of ignoring "Cobra Kai" ads, my boss at work and several other people were raving how good the show is.

They were right. After watching seven episodes so far, "Cobra Kai" is fantastic and funny to watch.

Johnny Lawrence tells 16 year old Miguel, who doesn't like the smell of the champagne: "Drink it. It will put hair on your balls."
