P.S. someone here said that I shouldn't have been honest with her in letting her know that I was only in town for a short time and that it wouldn't have been lying, but just omitting the truth. But, when asked straight up for how long I will be in town, unless I already have it in my plans that I will be lying, then I would rather just say the truth to not get caught up in lies later.
That someone was me - and if you're so worried about being "honest" with her, why not spend the first half hour boring her with as many negatives about you that come to mind? That's foolish and counter productive.
The approach I advocate isn't lying, it's simply one of the rules I picked up that's served me well. Never volunteer a negative. You would be wise to learn the rest of the rules, sooner rather than later.
