As smart as people claim he was, did he have any major discoveries that have actually improved the lives of people on earth?

As far as I'm aware he mostly talked about space, "Hawking radiation"..... cool but who gives a fuck. These types of discoveries seem to have almost no benefit. I just typed in google, where is the nearest black hole and it says 3000 light years away, too bad the guy didn't focus on something more relevant to us.

I doubt that he would be a household name if he was healthy his whole life.

And he was a sexist according to Twitter.

You could have at least spelled the guy's name right. It's with a ph!

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

About him as a scientist - as I understand he was smart but by no means truly exceptional among today's astrophysics. His disability and unique look made him a celebrity and made him to fit in a stereotypical cartoonish role of "all brains no body" genius type that is indoctrinated in children from cartoons and James Bond movie villains and was successful with laymen of science and that made him a popular proselytizer of some (perhaps selectively atheism biased) scientific concepts to masses.

I think he's widely regarded as a genius by his peers, particularly in regards to black holes and universe expansion, but yeah - the fact the average idiot probably saw him as a kind of robot certainly lent itself to his myth.

That's an absurd thing to say. It's not his field of study. Just because you don't find it interesting, it doesn't mean it's pointless.

And if the Twitter brigade thinks he's sexist, I like him even more.

Agreed.

Also, going to stripclubs and paying for lap dances does not mean you have game. That's 1 small step away from P4P.

^ Of course going to strip clubs doesn't mean he has game. It's people making a light hearted remark about how someone who looks like that, who can't fucking move or speak, and is regarded as some kind of machine intelligence... likes looking at hot girls like the rest of us. It's, funny.

Merc man, you need to lighten up, and chill with the conspiracy theories, as people told you when you constantly kept trying to convince us all that Paul Joseph Watson was gay.

I’m not going to suggest he has game. But tell me what option he has for seeing youthful titties in their prime, IRL, in his condition? I won’t disparage a man in his condition for engaging in p4p or one of its derivatives.

As for jerking off a genius cripple, well it's a no-brainer. You pump out a few kids, teach them basic maths and literacy and then place them in front of a computer each with a hundred bucks in bitcoin and tell them that only the top performing daytrader will get to eat at sundown.

If there are multiple "maths" then shouldn't you write "literacies" as well?

Ever heard of “mathmatics”?

It's clear that you are disagreeing with me here just to disagree with me, but since English is your second language, I'll throw you a bone and provide an explanation of basic English syntax and grammar.

First off, "mathmatics" is not a word in the English language. The correct spelling is "mathematics."

Second, can you think of any sentence where the word "mathematic" is used? If you can, you're using English incorrectly, because "mathematic," although occasionally used in the place of "mathematical" is also not a word and when it is used (incorrectly), it is used as an adjective, not a noun.

Mathematics is the noun form. Now, for your typical second language learner of English, the common assumption is that because there is an "s" on the end of the word, it must be plural.

However, if this were the case, the words bus, Swiss and emboss would be plural words, but they are not.

In fact, mathematics is neither singular nor plural, because mathematics is an uncountable noun, like snow and chatter. You wouldn't pluralize snow or chatter, because they are uncountable nouns.

The same goes for mathematics. It's actually different than the words science and philosophy as both science and philosophy can be divided into concrete systems that can be used independent of the others (you can discuss physics without having any knowledge of biology, because the two can operate complete independent of each other).

You can't do calculus, however, without being dependent on many elements of the general body of mathematics, since you'll still need to perform arithmetic functions.

And now you're up to speed on how the English language really works.

Actually suits, I’m just making fun of your pettiness.

That loooong drawn out explanation to try and make someone else “wrong”.

English and Aussies say “maths” and Americans and Canadians say “math”.

Neither are wrong.

In fact, mathematics is neither singular nor plural, because mathematics is an uncountable noun, like snow and chatter. You wouldn't pluralize snow or chatter, because they are uncountable nouns.

Mathmatics = maths

You just proved me right lol.

What’s really funny is you just learned what I already knew in 8th grade because my grandfather (chemical engineer) said “maths” once and I “corrected” him only to be corrected.

Keep trying suits, maybe if you condescend to enough posters like AB people will think you are more than midwit level smart.

After all, it’s his hatred of midwits that made you lash out at him isn’t it?

Math and maths are equally acceptable abbreviations of mathematics. The only difference is that math is preferred in the U.S. and Canada, and maths is preferred in the U.K., Australia, and most other English-speaking areas of the world.

Neither abbreviation is correct or incorrect. You may hear arguments for one being superior to the other, and there are logical cases for both sides. One could argue maths is better because mathematics ends in s, and one could argue math is better because mathematics is just a mass noun that happens to end in s. In any case, English usage is rarely guided by logic, and these usage idiosyncrasies are often arbitrary. If you were raised in a part of the world where people say maths, then maths is correct for you, and the same is of course true of math. Don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise.

Once again, the internet could have saved you.

Just like with AB, you can’t just say something without being a passive aggressive little person.

Maybe now they'll think about their own mortality.

The guy clearly contributed to the greater good of humanity by furthering science. It will be interesting to see what his kids do with their lives, though to the best of my knowledge Einstein's kids didn't do much so maybe Hawking's kids won't either.

Speaking of Hawking and kids, this thread is the first I'm finding out that he actually had kids. I always thought he was completely paralyzed with no movement down there.

Seems like you missed page 1 of this thread.

As smart and intelligent he was - he was engaged in a huge number of globalist projects in addition to embarking on his atheism crusade.

He is proof that intelligence has at times little correlation with wisdom.

But I guess he got 100% of his new pre-filtered from the mainstream, so it's forgivable.

You've been away from Canada for too long. East of the Rockies we have no choice but to pluralize it.
