Actually, as much as Al Gore is a modern SJW loony, he did play a pivotal role in the creation of the internet back in the day. The creation of the internet required somebody on the political side to champion its development in addition to the various technical people involved in the system. Al Gore really was the kind of junior Congressman who was a tech enthusiast, who went looking for ways to push our infrastructure into the future. He went looking for such things, found the existing ARPANET and DARPANET projects, talked to people about what a modern information superhighway would look like, and what users would need it to do, then pushed through the funding for the implementation.

He still an idiot though.
