Everyone my age in NZ is always wanting to talk about Rhythm and Vines and Northern Bass and all the New Year/summer festivals to go to them. And how amazing/great those festivals would be.

The trouble is over time I've learned not to take Aussie/Kiwi recommendations seriously(They've got a much higher boredom tolerance and much lower ability to judge quality). Got burned multiple times when I would go to things they talk up and I would be bored out of my mind, luckily each time the event was free or I'd pay something like $10 or less. These sorts of festivals cost hundreds of dollars and I can't believe people would pay that much for such lame/bogan events. Likely because Aussies/Kiwis don't really think for themselves(much less than other Westerners). For the record, I believe American or Euro festivals are probably inevitably going to be much more fun/interesting, so they're "worth it" in general.

If something lame like this is frontpage news and takes my social media by firestorm, then yes, I can conclude there's almost certainly nothing worth a damn going on in these festivals.

It's not hypothetical to be willing to jump a criminal. The law and law enforcement is incredibly lenient towards violence against criminals by other citizens. There's even bit a few cases of gang members who have intervened against criminals and were given a pass (In one instance I remember the gang members were on probation and prohibited from contact with other gang members as well as carrying weapons. They intervened in a robbery and were not charged for attacking the suspect, nor for violating probation).

Certainly there's been other lesser things that have been twisted, but why give more ammunition to them?

Please don't make light of that, I had a truly traumatic experience when I was sexually assaulted playing football. I was new to the team and didn't want to upset the power structure at the club. For years I suffered in silence. I tried to rationalise it in my head as 'normal'. I now realise it was sexual assault and abuse, and I was powerless to speak out against it due to the toxic masculinity that all male sports teams have.
