Accomplish any goal with OTR's NIPS system

^ I understand where you're coming from... but you're over complicating this for yourself. You just put down on a sheet of Paper what you believe is the Next step for you to achieve what you want. That's it. The magic of writing it down is simply you making a contract with yourself, which is the only person you can't BS.

For example I've been struggling to find time to read the books I want. Now upon awakening, I do my NIPS sheet, and my first task is to Read that book until X time. After fighting for months & months... I simply cannot NOT read that Damn book by doing my daily NIPS. That simple!

I'm sure you'll think this can't be it... just like I did when I first read it... but it's really it. Every morning I'm now looking forward on doing my NIPS sheet. Currently working on a few things... but with NIPS it's just a matter of times for things to click!

Cool system, man.

I forgot to mention this, but thanks.

A few months after reading this thread, I realized, after writing out the things you listed, that I could pay off my debt within 15 months by working an extra 20 hours or so. Been stacking cash and making payments. I currently don't pay rent, so I've been rolling that extra cash I save into rent. At first, it was a little nerve-wracking seeing all that money being sent to some asscocking financial entity, but now it feels pretty good hitting 'send' every month knowing that in a year or so, I'll be in a far better position.

What's also cool is that I realize that after that 15 month period, I'll then have a pretty solid stack of cash each month to invest in things that make me money down the line. I'm dreaming of all the steaks I'll purchase and all the guilt-free vacations I'll treat myself to.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

I work in IT sales. This is exactly how we track and report our progress weekly so that we meet our quarter target number.

So far I've paid 2 loans and I'm set to pay another one in the middle of next month. The funny thing is that since I've begun focusing on this goal, it seems like people are trying to throw money at me to help me along. I'm slowly getting more private students and I now make enough so that I can send more money than I planned to send. I suspect I'll send up blowing this goal out of the water before I actually planned to.

Congrats. This is really awesome -- you accomplished this and it sounds like with limited resources.

What's your excuse? (to the other yous reading)

One answer to the people who keep asking for examples, I haven't made time yet to make a "fake" one. What I would suggest is to get out a piece of paper and try. It may be funky at first but you will work it out on next drafts. The key is to start putting opportunities down on paper and defining their value and defining their next steps.

I gotta say I absolutely love this system, OP. When you read between the lines you figure out you can use this system for any goal set, not just for something as quantifiable as finances. Really inspired me to radically re-evaluate all of my "investments" (social groups, friendships, hobbies, vacations, expenditures, income sources) based on their expected ROI. I really wanna kick myself for all the years I've already wasted on "LIPS" (low impact producing steps), but on the other hand I'm grateful to start now rather than later.

It's humbling to really confront yourself with the absolutely retarded choices you've made, but it opens the door for real growth and learning.

Example:
[4 years studying for a degree]>[Total cost $40.000 over 4 years]>[+$40.000 opportunity cost] = [Get to earn $1/hour more than unschooled laborers]
Emotional ROI: Good, I have done what the system told me to do, I'm not a loser dropout, I finished what I started
Monetary ROI: Horrible, missed out on $80.000 so I can earn $1/hour more than unschooled peers, i.e. will take 15 years to actually start to make a profit
Virtue ROI: Medium, I learned some good knowledge, but also learned shit propaganda knowledge, also learned bad working habits etc...
Status ROI: Medium, at the very least I am social status "equal" to my educated peers, aside from that nothing special.

The main thing I've noticed is that most decisions that will make or save you money always have a short term "bad" emotional ROI, but a great long term ROI for virtue, status, money and even emotions. In other words, making judgments based on short-term emotions is extremely expensive.

Accomplish any goal with OTR's NIPS system

I made a sort of modified version of this recently.

What I did was make a narrow scope NIPS sheet which I shared with a client using a master spreadsheet and a file system in dropbox. In other words I went from the NIPS being strictly written to myself to one which is updated with details to be shared with a client to show where we are at on given opportunities, even though a client would normally see this detail. They love it and it has given me results this year. It also ended up saving some work as I have a secretary update the master list and the client doesnt need to say send me any particular info "again" since it is all shared.

Hi @Off The Reservation, I read this thread a while ago and took some time to come around and see the value in your NIPS system. I had made it into a pdf, printed it out and filled it in a couple of times. Thank you for posting!

Backstory:
I've been through a large transition recently, I landed a good job that takes a lot of my time, yet I'm still looking for ways to raise my income, I've reduced and rationalised virtually every expense I can and reached a point where I can't hold onto and re-invest any more in order to diversify my income streams through passive income. I've hit a limit.

Result:
This system helped me prioritise my actions, like a form of decision automation.

I own my own home and have rented out a room in the past. The last person I had really sucked and turned me off the idea. But I really want to increase and diversify my sources of income.

I used NIPS and laid out all my options. NIPS unambiguously explains that I can't make the kind of return that I can by simply renting out my spare room.

NIPS explains that all I need to do is get on the site to find a new flatmate, (be more selective in future, now my situation has improved) and keep raking in the coin.

It really lays out the best option. i just need to re-list the add, be more selective in who you agree to meet and collect the return. Comparatively, every thing else is a waste of time until I have done that.

I can still do those other things further down the list too, but focus on the most impactful item first and immediately.

Her's to a prosperous 2019!
Cheers, Mig.
