Fuck Moby btw, I remember when his shit got big in like 2000 and people were like "he's brilliant, I love that album." Never saw what was interesting about it...a step above elevator music and royalty-free filler tracks they make for documentaries and local news. Where are we now? A endless line of copycats of that same semi-instrumental style that goes stale after three listenings.

I also recognize him as the first in a new line of soyboy-leftist musicians using whatever fame they could cobble together to push a political agenda. It's like they knew they were second-rate talents so they had to take advantage of their 15 minutes to get pandas in the news.

There's always been lefty activist musicians, but at least 60's rockers were going to marches and interacting with the people from the stage, and made good music as their first cause...these fools just push play on a sampler and pretend they are performing, then give interviews that are 99% about malaria or the rainforest.

yea pay your jizya tax, provide your first born to join the jannisaries and the cutest of the bunch get to join the sultan's harem. On occasion when the empire starts to decline be prepared to be blamed for it along with pogroms, mass rapes, and even mass genocide.

I think we have been there done that.

Stop and think how true it is. Stark.

I would guess we are actually deeper into the actual collapse than people might think...it's just that "collapse" doesn't look like "everyone trying to flee New York City a la Stephen King's The Stand miniseries in the 90's.

The collapse we are seeing is more like a coming apart, where the prosperous classes are isolating themselves from the more dysfunctional subcultures who are getting more desperate and less functional. The prosperous won't be able to play their game forever, but will last longer because they have sounder organizational structures. So we aren't going to see Katrina-esque total chaos.

Think about Italy...it's a completely chaotic culture where nothing is on time, the law is not respected, and they have gone through scores of governments since 1945. However, the nuclear family is a big damn deal, kids live with their parents (into their 30's!) until they get married., grandparents live in the family house etc. I suspect that kind of thing keeps the society going, cultural values can be easily passed down and negative cultural trends abrogated or at least softened by mom and granny saying "the fucka ya doing with tha swipey apps!" Not to mention the passing of money and labor assistance through a family.

The closest we've come to an all-out civilizational collapse is probably the last months of World War I...mass strikes, mass hunger, the Spanish flu pandemic, instant disappearance of ages-old governmental structures and empires and dozens of territories and borders changing, straight-up Communist revolution in the largest country in the developed world with the risk of it spreading all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
