Hey awesome thread! I actually joined because of it...

WeekendCasanova: How are you going about targeting business owners with your social media advertising biz? This seems immensely difficult to do with Facebook ads. I tried a campaign targeted towards 'page admins' and 'small business owners' but there's a lot of people on FB who have business pages that aren't actually in business. I ended up with a lot of "cat ladies" liking my ads lol.

I could see it working if you target by education credentials (ie..dentists), but if you wanted to say target owners of a small manufacturing business (or even something like a cleaning business)...how would you go about that?

I ran into the same issue with auto shop owners.

Some categories on Facebook are very specific and others are woefully vague (or do not attract the certain demographic that accurately completes their profile).

Yea, I found Facebook's "behavioral" targeting to be questionable. A lot of the so called business owners that my liked my ads were 'CEO of nunyabizness' and shit like that.

The interest targeting is even worse. Everybody likes everything on facebook, even things they're not remotely interested in. Facebook has actually gotten into trouble with their ads metrics, and fluffing the numbers.

Anyway, there's a lot of hype with FB ads. I think they have some utility for B2C companies, especially re-targeting. But I'd really like to see some proof of a successful B2B campaign. I've been in online marketing circles for a long while now, and I haven't seen anyone who's cracked the code.

This is ridiculous.

I personally know 3-4 people making 6-figures a month online using the exact same business model I am.

There's no 'code' to be cracked. It's called in-depth research, direct-response copywriting, mixed in with organic outreach to decipher what offer your ideal client will respond to.

Steps:

1. Organic outreach to owners in your niche via email (ask them their biggest pain is).
2. Craft offer for that pain
3. Research FB targeting using audience insights, and infocan/us.
4. Let it rip!

Use the info sites I mentioned above.

You can get a massive list of auto shop owners by geographical location.

Otherwise, write your ad so that it speaks to auto shop owners.

It works.

Thanks man, I'll check out those infocanada lists. Appreciate you taking the time to answer me.

Our offer and writing is fine, and converts (when I cold call/email -- which I don't want to do anymore)

Our biggest hurdles are:

1. decision makers at autobody shops are either too busy (they do the work themselves instead of hiring people) OR DMs are not using Facebook

2. once we get auto vendors on our system, we have to hound them to actually check the leads and get back to the leads
(we've learned to only deal with shops that have at least one receptionist, vs the owner that "does it all", but even then, there is such an intense onboarding process that we can only bring on one new customer at a time so scaling is terrible)

Getting leads for our clients is the easiest thing in the world, since they are so bad at marketing themselves.

Good stuff.

To be honest, I'm usually very picky about the niche I enter. I've never really told anybody on a forum this, but my two most profitable niches have been:

- Financial advisors (my payment scheme is 20% commish on new clients, and so far this alone is generating me 5-figures a month)
- Contractors (looking for bathroom remodelling jobs. I charge $5-$10k a month for this, because the average bathroom job is $30k).

I would never work with auto shops, although I suppose if you're paid a flat fee of $3k up it could be great.

Otherwise, stick to high-ticket niches man.

This is an excellent point.

We try to move people into yearly fees for unlimited leads asap, but even that only gets us $3-4K per year per vendor.

One of our first clients bought the yearly recurring and probably created a false positive for us.

B2B.

Retargeting combined with other traffic sources?

B2B is easy.

As I mentioned above, you need to do a bit more research though.

I usually call/email about 30 businesses before I ever launch my first ad - to figure out what they need, their pain points etc.

I don't even sell them - it's just research.

Once I have the right offer, I throw a landing page with an opt-in to a value video.

If they opt-in, they get sent to my calendar software to schedule a session.

If they don't opt-in, I retarget.

Here's a link to a picture of the ideal funnel (I created this chart).

It kept stretching when I put here, so the link will have to do!

PER YEAR?

I wouldn't get out of bed for that kind of money.

Never do yearly - always do monthly, and always be willing to raise your prices or walk.

The thing that separates people making $10,000 a month vs. $2,000 is nothing other than mindset.

Value yourself highly, and always demand to be paid fairly. Don't be afraid to walk away from poor clients unwilling to pay.

Hey Weekend can you please share how you target certain niches for dropshipping or your POD on Facebook.

I launched several fb ads $5 USD a day and got nothing, just a few clicks. My budget was low as I was just testing products.

Your targeting could be fine, but your messaging/offer could be off.

What do your metrics look like..

- CTR
- CPC
- CPM

etc...

[Quick Update - Outsourcing]

Over the past several months, I've really been trying to nail down outsourcing. It's been a difficult process, but it's finally starting to pay off. The biggest issue has been nailing down your processes, so that whoever you hire can replicate them easily and efficiently.

The best advice I can give, based on my experience is this:

1. From day one, document everything. Even if you mess up - document everything you do from your very first client onwards. When you want to start outsourcing, reviews these notes and abridge them.

2. When it comes to hiring staff, don't use upwork. Use a Facebook ad to target people 21+ within a certain city. I used Ukraine. I targeted people without paying an upwork service fee, with a $5 Facebook ad. Within one day, I had 50 applicants for 5 positions - all qualified, hungry to work, and fluent in English.

3. Skip the daily calls - weekly works fine.

4. Try out 2 people for the same job - whomever asks the least amount of questions, hire them. Let the other one go. We're not in the charity game.

Anyways, that's it for now.

Been lazy over the holiday break, but plan to get back at it in early Jan when I return to Ukraine.

This thread is dead though - ask more questions people!

Thank you for this thread Ryan. Do you have any POD companies you would recommend that have a strong variety of clothing products OTHER than T shirts?

Think thick heavy sweaters, heavy socks, mittens, etc. The ones I saw earlier didn't really have what I'm looking for.

Ryan,

You mentioned you were generating lead for bathroom contractors.

I can see that working with a search campaign (AdWords, Bing, etc.) but how are you generatiing those leads targeting wise with Facebook ads?

2nd question...(tried to edit and this to my post above but it wouldnt let me)

You mentioned you set up separate FB business pages for each niche you get into. Do you set up separate websites as well?

Ryan, why bill monthly instead of yearly? Almost all major SaaS providers do yearly rates.

Also, what is your reasoning behind hiring the person who asks the least questions? In my experience, the person who takes the most notes and asks the most questions does the most thorough job.

Structuring my copy to talk to those that need work done, and also targeting people based on net-worth.

When people are looking to get their bathrooms done, they often just need that 'push'.

A nice value video/offer acts as that push.

No.

Because the closing process (Skype), is still managed by my partner. Even if I outsourced this, the fact that I hire relatively green staff that has no online experience, limits this chance.

In any case, why don't employees run their businesses out of business? Employees (most of them) like a steady pay-check and don't have those entrepreneurial risk characteristics.

It's a clever way to hire people.

Ad - "XYZ Group is hiring in your area for remote work! Must have skills xyz. Click the link to apply."

I'm talking about my service-selling ad agency - I always charge monthly.

For SaaS, I offer a yearly package.

And in theory, you're right. Those who take notes and ask questions may seem like the best choice, but when you're running multiple companies, and have a bunch of staff, having people that can proactively figure something out, follow the steps I provided, and get creative are ALWAYS the best employees.

I've had both - and those that ask a lot of questions never change, and are always outperformed in terms of speed and quality.

I'm not oblivious to the fact that some questions will be required. But I'm talking excessive questions - which happens 75% of the time.

I don't want to hold their hands.

After the initial 'training period' they should be able to do everything if they follow the processes I've so nicely laid out.

^Thanks so much for taking the time to answer!

A couple more questions:

1. What are your thoughts on using lead-form and video ads -- instead of landing pages?

2. For your video upsells, are you doing a screen capture video? Or just a selfie vid lol?

1. I use video ads a lot - me talking, my client talking etc..that lead to a landing page (ClickFunnels). I suppose you don't need a landing page, but my conversion rate is a lot higher WITH them.

Traffic > Landing Page Opt-In > Value Video > Calendar > Survey

Stick to that funnel. The traffic source is sort of irrelevant so long as it works.

Test everything, see what works.

2. I have a standard powerpoint structure (based on Frank Kern's model) that I use for every client - I just tweak the content dependent on the niche.

I record my screen, but for my clients (sometimes) I record their face etc..

Is there a market for a higher end shirt (blend or poly blend)? By is there a market, I mean can you make up enough of the added cost of the shirt by selling for a few dollars more?

I can't count how many times I've looked for a t shirt I might want (even today) and thought, well I don't want a shitty 100% cotton shirt.

Most of the t shirts I currently wear are because they fit well and are great fabric rather than that I like what's on the shirt. I'd like both.

Very meaty. Can you break that down more, or let me know where I misunderstand:

A. Traffic comes from FB ad, with Learn More button that leads to your landing page.
B. Landing page opt-in captures the essential details (Name, Phone, Email?) so even if they bag out of the next steps, you can still follow up.
C. Value video???? Is this an upsell? And if so, can you go into more detail about the difference between the original offer (on the FB ad) and this one?
D. Calendar is for them to book a Skype call with your partner? Is this a final qualifying step before you hand them over to your client?
E. Survey is the skype call, or something that occurs immediately after they book a calendar spot?

If it's not revealing too much, could you go into more detail about what the skype call entails, and what you are screening for?

*

I've bought a low end Kern product before so I could see how his funnel worked. It was relentless follow ups for days after. Which he does because it obviously worked, but goddam if it wasn't the most obnoxious thing I have ever been subjected to. I couldn't wait to opt out of his list after that.

I'm not sure if you meant this as for my clients, or the clients I'm getting for my client - so I answered both.

B. Landing page opt-in captures the essential details (Name, Phone, Email?) so even if they bag out of the next steps, you can still follow up.

For my client: I only ask for their name, and 'best email'. We ask for the phone number later (on the calendar call booking step).

For their client: Same as above.

Quote:Quote:

C. Value video???? Is this an upsell? And if so, can you go into more detail about the difference between the original offer (on the FB ad) and this one?

For my client: So, with lead gen it's often difficult to go from cold turkey to client. The value video is what we offer to prospects to warm them up, and it is entirely dependent on the niche.

If you recall what I wrote a few days ago (I think it was a few days), I said to reach out to people in whatever niche you want to enter, and ask them on the phone (or email), for some information about their business - what pains they have, what they wish they could do better.

For realtors, it's exposure, so the value video would be broad steps to gain listing exposure.

It's important to not reveal EVERYTHING - but you can show them the what (just not the how).

I.E "Launch Facebook ads, targeting customers in your area" would be great. Don't tell them the step by step method to do this.

The Facebook ad offers them the value video.

"Are you a realtor looking for more listing exposure? Check out xyz"

For their client: The value video could be "tips for listing your home", but in any case - the Facebook ad must have the same message as the landing page.

Recently, as well I've been utilizing chat bots for Realtors. If they're selling a home, I'll post an ad for that home, with the message being "Interested in learning more about this home? Click the button to learn more."

When they hit the button, they're sent to an automated bot that has preset questions + answers.

Quote:Quote:

D. Calendar is for them to book a Skype call with your partner? Is this a final qualifying step before you hand them over to your client?

My clients: I have them fill out a survey

Their clients: Depends on the niche. For realtors, I normally skip the survey. For Financial Advisors, I use the service to determine net-worth.

Quote:Quote:

E. Survey is the skype call, or something that occurs immediately after they book a calendar spot?

Skype call is the close. Same as any sales call - objections, how you handle them etc..all determine your close %.

Oh I am a firm believer in daily emailing (Ben Settle style).

I meant that Kern tried to get me to watch 20 more videos and sell me 3 more products immediately after I bought a $3 ebook that I hadn't even had time to read. But I totally understand that people who buy can (and should be) sold more immediately. Kern's thing was just the most intense one I had ever seen.

No hate on Frank, I like him and learn a lot from him.

Okay, so if I'm getting this right...

You are not doing Facebook ads that offer "leads for realtors service". You are doing FB ads that say "want free tips to get more listing exposure", and then the "best email" (great, btw, we use that too) is the trade for the free info, which is the video.

Then after the video (because you have just provided value), you then say "hey, I can actually help you do this, want to talk about it?". That is the calendar booking?

See I originally thought you were just straight up offering your services. But it seems like what you are initially offering is some advice and free info as a niche expert, and only after you have given that free value do you make a pitch to sell them something.

I set a timer on a button that says 'Apply' which pops up once they near the end of the video. This button links to the calendar.

Ryan , how do you do this with Financial Advisers 20% of what , the advice fee?
Again do you do facebook ads that say " how to better invest for retirement top tips click here " or something , then a video or PDF , then a follow with a pitch to a Financial Adviser ?
