Especially since HEMA still has a bad mainstream reputation, you dont want to be brutish jerk with sword. You want to be the fearsome but easy going viking.

But yes, the idea works universally when you are a trainer. I'm currently training my inner circle comrades in MMA and we have one new girl regularly attending. Being in the position of a trainer and leader of men is instant social proof. And if you are skilled (and potentially "bad boy" dangerous when you are doing Martial Arts), but still are patient and nice, girls will trust you. And usually the good kind of girls, you are not playing dancing monkey for her, competing for her attention with thousand instagram simps. So tldr; I'm smashed her without much effort. Can recommend.

Any man in a commanding position makes women wet, doubly so if he's commanding other men. If you are a MMA trainer and you smash that would not surprise me one bit. You only need to be discreet.

IMO, I believe that it's hard to reconcile building a brotherhood with banging girls at your sport activity. Women do actually ruin everything.

It is because that the behaviors you must display for one goal will not be conducive to the other. If you want to bang girls, you must lean toward selective domination, AMOG, favoritism, etc. usually to the detriment of the guys. That, and truthfully I dont respect a man who's only out to get girls. Bros before hos.

The second reason is that girls LOVEEEE to cause drama and pit guys against each other. I've seen it so many times in my big Aikido clubs. Friends turn to frienemy turn to outright foes because a girl wants to feel important and entertained. Cant blame the girls because her instinct is to identify the strongest guys and only conflict help weed out the weak.

Sometimes I'm just amazed and disgusted at how girls get wet at display of dominance and violence. One day I was watching two noobs trained together, I was feeling like an asshole so I came to show them how it's done, but by really throwing them to the ground and a bit of verbal humiliation. That was when I was young and hormones are raging, in hindsight it was a jerk move. And yet I noticed some of the girls I didn't even know (we are a big student dojo) were looking at me with starry eyes and instinctively followed me around in the dojo. And these are the innocent looking, soft eye girls, not the slutty ones.

It's a given that girls love jerks, but it's not worth being a jerk to get girls. When I'm doing sports I prefer the rough camaraderie of men. You throw a woman in, you mess the whole thing up.

@YB: if you have girls wanting to sign up, I would advise against accepting her for "safety reason". I dont care if she is hot or ugly, it will never end well.

I think this is what you “situational alphas” which frankly is what modern game comes down to. I don’t think physique matters that much as long as you are not ugly. My good bud who is way taller than me but very skinny, slays more at aikido because he’s more skilled.

People mostly got it backwards. What counts is dominance, and most often a good physique allows you to dominate. But you can certainly dominate in other ways.

University club, so we have to accept any girls who want to sign up. Fortunately we basically keep them from having to spar anyone too intense. And the girls who sign up aren't stupid enough to think a woman is as strong as a man haha. One of them has been there since the beginning, before me, and has broken three bones in sparring. But she stayed for the art, which is nice.

Did an interesting sparring match today: arming sword v longsword. Arming sword cannot block longsword, it simply does not have leverage. This forces you to become a quick fencer. Our fastest fencer was actually out of breath from using arming sword. Lots of fun. Will see how the recruits can handle it this week, as they finally get to spar (after signing a waiver of course, weesh university.)

That seems to be some fantasy looking gambeson based on realistic gambeson. When you create fantasy armor and base it on realistic one, you get best possible of both worlds.
I saw recently picture of Chaos armor (Warhammer) that some guy made. It's very well done because he based it on Italian or English full plate armor but he added obvious fantasy elements. That is completely opposite of what people mostly do for cosplaying, such as putting over sized pauldrons, breastplates going up to the navel or worse, up to the belt and such. Movies and TV series are especially guilty of this.

You can recognize real, proper made armor when you see person wearing it and it almost seems like its his second skin, and not a bunch of metal put over him.

YB: arming sword is NEVER meant to be used alone against any kind of weapon. It's supposed to be pair with a heater shield, which then puts it at a level playing field against a longsword. Unless the arming swordman is extremely skilled, he will get murdered by the guy using longsword.

Rule number 1 of medieval combat is to always have both of your hands on something. People are know to even have a cloak on their free hand if no extra weapon is around. Failing that, picking up rock (or unscrew the pommel, though this would fuck up your sword balance ) to throw at your enemy are all viable tactic. The pussy ass dueling style of putting your free hand behind you only evolved during the renaissance.

Fighting a sword and shield guy is another story altogether however. A good shieldman can easily bind or trap your longsword while delivering quick lunge. Doubly so if neither is wearing armor. My best kind of match to watch.

Of course it's not meant to be used alone, but it is a good exercise in speed.

I've been following your advice with shield by the way and it's worked out greatly. One of our other club members will be crafting a shield soon (I have to help him with the description of the shield as the book he purchased is in German), and we will soon be able to sword and shield vs sword and shield. Very much looking forward to it!

Hah! Look at this, very good quality foam equipment for sparring, very cheap, looks much better than what you would expect and it doesn't hurt you so you don't need excessive protection gear. I think I might purchase couple of these things for friends and me.

@YB: glad that my shield advice is working out for you. If you are using big viking shield or Roman shield it is mandatory.

When you get comfortable with the distance, try using shield to bind and sword to attack. It's the more advanced exercise but lotta fun.

Personally for me arming sword vs longsword is an exercise in being cut, maimed, decapitated, gutted, stabbed and bruised in every way imaginable I mean, you can train speed when you are longsword vs longsword too. Just do the basic attack - block - riposte with you being the attacker and try to hit the other so fast he couldn't riposte.

It's not like you suddenly become speedier because you are using an arming sword. If that is the case, that mean you are half-assing your longswording. Good longswordmen I know are viper-quick, faster with 2-handed than some guys with a dagger.

Ah, I should clarify.

The speed of my attacks isn’t the issue. It’s my actual physical speed. I’m what Lichtenauer called “the buffalo.” Which, while useful against many types of opponents, means I don’t move much unless I have to. Using an arming sword forces me to move my lazy ass so I don’t get hit, because blocking simply will not work. It’s improved my movement with longsword as well, which is why I’m saying it’s a useful exercise for speed.

The shield my buddy is modeling his after has a pretty cool design: white lion rampant in red field, with a gold band across it bearing three black fleur-de-lis.

Interesting. I started to research recently heraldry as I want to design my own coat of arms. Currently I am learning how to construct blazon, which is a french-english sentence that in shortest amount of words describes design. What you just said is very similar to blazon.

Dalaran, stupid of me, I don't know why I didn't put link. Its a LARP site, which I find a bit gay, but their weapons are ideal cheapest solution for someone that just wants to have fun sparring and doing serious techniques such as those from HEMA.
