Forum organization changes (September 2017)

A couple changes I'd like to share:

-Weightlifting & Fitness is now a subforum of Lifestyle.
-Deep Forum is now a subforum of Everything Else.
-Crypto is a new subforum featuring discussion on cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and other technical computer issues.

That's all.

Maybe rename to Crypto & Tech? Or just Tech? Crypto seems too niche a subject to be the topic of an entire forum. Then again, I may just be hating because I haven't pocketed any of that sweet Bitcoin cash. But I think the forum would get more use if - as it is apparently intended to contain all technical and computer talk - it is named accordingly. Just my opinion, though. Worth exactly what you paid for it.

Good moves. Crypto seems like a natural forum to add, given that it is a very important part of the internet and personal freedom going forward.

One additional suggestion: Split the Lifestyle forum off and create a sub-forum for that entitled "Business and Making Money"

The existing Lifestyle forum has lots of great info on how to decorate your pad, talking about cars, social life, etc. We have a lot of entrepreneurs on this forum, it would be great to have a sub-forum strictly for Business and Career related topics.

Please consider adding/splitting this.

Is it possible within the forum software to make it so you can see some of the topics in these subforums? Maybe click a button and you get a "dropdown" of topics. Or a hover effect with a popup? The problem with more subforums is that you have to click and open each and have no real way of seeing if new posts have been made.

I find the "View New Posts" link on the top-left does the trick to see a nice overview of recently updated forum topics.

I've always been clicking View Today's Posts... what's the difference and which is better?

Today's posts are for posts made today. View New Posts are for posts made since your last forum login is my understanding, even if it is longer than a day. The View New Posts results are only good for up to about 2-3 pages worth of threads. So if you don't login for a very long time, it won't remember everything you've missed.

We need a sub-forum for people who want to request game advice that they will immediately disregard and ignore.

Agreed. There will likely be a lot of changes in tech in the future that we won't predict and it isn't crypto but it still helps our cause eg the Biased News Boycotter extension. Also other threads like Alt Tech and Google or Facebook controversy and ways to replace their services with other alternatives can fit nicely in there.

Right now there isn't many Tech topics being discussed. If that changes then a name update is a good idea.

We could just call the sub-forum "Gaming at Work."

Thanks for considering it, as it would certainly help keep things better organized and for researching associated topics.

Guys, also be aware of anyone trying to reach out to you with a "great deal" on pre-sales or ICOs. Such person will claim they pool money from many folks along with a great "track record" (yet no proof), have a connection with the people (especially the CEO) heading the project, and can get you in at a discount if you send your coins to him.....so he can pool them together and get more volume.

This "great" discount that you will get is a lie. You can often find these deals yourself if you look for them, and most of the times you can get a way better deal. You'll get pitched a 5-10% discount while the actual discount is 20-25%, except the bundler is skimming the difference and giving you the crumbs. But of course, he won't tell you this or that he simply found the discount online, no actual networking or work happened. It already happened once in the Slack group.

Think about it as a Vegas club promoter who claims he's well connected and can get you in to the VIP section if you pay him $100-200 bucks.....only you could have done this for free if you had texted the promoter handing out cards.

The worse part is actually sending him money and getting a refund because the guy forgot to put in the order. Quite professional.

Just your friendly PSA.
