Ok, here is my new member contribution, for those thinking about coming to the Philippines and Dumaguete specifically.
The City: It's a small provincial town, with a hypocritical but pervasive religious presence. Many churches of most all faiths, they all talk about God but their interpretation of God only goes so far, in many cases, as it is convenient for them.
It's a boring City, with several universities, but the universities here are more like high schools, they are not centers of high learning or research.
Lots of lousy restaurants with few good ones. No food inspection here, expect multiple cases of food poisoning. Prices are less than, say Mexico or most L.A. countries, but approach Western prices for the ocean front joints. Service usually sucks. Lots of fast food outlets that cannot keep main menu items in stock.
Ditto the hotels. Hotel prices are high here for the Philippines for a city of it's size. Prices for hotels and groceries are inflated due to the HUGE presence of foreigners here, mostly old, fat, ugly men who come here for cheap poon (they will deny it, but that's a fact). Hotel standards are low, they don't upkeep on maintenance. Prices for hotels range from 400php all the way up to 2-4000php (exchange is now at a all time high, thanks to Trump at 51 to the USD).
Nightlife is little to none. One disco that plays deafening loud "music" in a smoke filled environment with bad service. Other bars and minor establishments that are unsafe for foreigners-one killed and one injured in the last few years.
Medical care here is poor. You get hit on the head and you are dead-no neurosurgeons, MRI, etc. Ignorant doctors with attitudes-they want you to agree to everything they do with no questions.
Ok, not the important stuff, "nightlife" etc. This is not a town to find a woman. The women available to foreigners here, especially if your over 60 and to a lesser extent ALL ages, are the lower class, not as attractive girls, working girls or not. The line between working girls and "regular" girls is blurred here despite their supposed religiosity. Upscale, educated Filipinas, under 25, do not want foreigners, by and large. They are looking for educated, successful Filipino guys and are quite Westernized in this respect, except they won't treat you like CR*p for approaching or engaging them. Much more polite than in USA.
Very few young good looking foreigner men here and the ones that are usually bring a woman with them. Lots of prostitutes and "semi-pros". If you're into that scene it is CHEAP, CHEAP, but the quality is POOR, POOR. The women here simply do not know how to F**K. And there are a lot of FAT, flabby women here. Once they have a kid, which is usually the case above 20 years of age, forget about a tight body in most cases. You won't see this on cam, as the cam girls are being paid to try to get you to send them money and are much more attractive than what you get when you land here.
You can get laid here easily, but they often expect you to pay. Does not matter,it's a pittance. But you will gradually lose interest as you find the women here are clumsy and unwilling in bed. BJs are not the norm here. There are exceptions but I am talking generally and I have bedded a LOT of women in the 5+ years I have lived here.
Ok that's enough for my first post. I will see how it goes here and possibly post additional info on this and other parts of the R.P and Mexico depending on the nature of this forum (I rarely post to forums, but this one seems to have some intelligent guys here).
