The Alt-Tech Revolution: Master Thread For Tech Ideas in an Age of Censorship

Having just read the Youtube censorship thread, I wanted to get a thread started here on RVF regarding the problems in the tech industry that we face as men, or as anyone who cares about individual liberty and defeating leftist SJW thugs.

To that end, Pax Dickenson wrote an excellent primer on what he is dubbing "alt-tech":

https://www.slideshare.net/paxdickinson/alttech

(I've attached a PDF copy of Pax's "Alt-tech" at the bottom of my first post in this thread for downloading, sharing on social media and emailing to people.)

Quote:Quote:

1. THE ALT-TECH INTERNET FREEDOM. NEW THINKING.

2. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH THE TECH INDUSTRY?

3. ALT-TECH POLITICIZATION OF TECHNOLOGY SERVICES ▸ Big Tech has politicized the provision of its services, denying them to right-wing and other “undesirable” users & companies. ▸ Big Tech is denying DNS Services, DDOS protection, and billing services to right-wing grassroots sites in advance of the 2018 election cycle. ▸ Big Tech is attempting to stifle internet speech in order to influence the composition of Congress and thwart the Trump agenda.

4. ALT-TECH OPPRESSION OF NON-LEFTIST VOICES ▸ Big Tech platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Discord have denied their platforms to those with right-wing politics and the crackdowns and suspensions are only accelerating. What began with the Far Right will impact the Trump Right, and already is. ▸ Big Tech companies like Twitter used to proudly declare they were “free speech utilities” are actively censoring users in the name of preventing “hate speech”. ▸ Big Tech stifles any pushback to their diversity agenda. James Damore was fired by Google for his simple attempt at rational debate which was labeled an “anti-diversity screed” by tech media and activist Social Justice Warriors.

5. THE CRACKDOWNS AND SUSPENSIONS ARE ONLY ACCELERATING

6. ALT-TECH CENTRALIZATION CREATES AN ECHO CHAMBER ▸ The geographic centralization of Big Tech in the deeply Marxist San Francisco Bay Area has created an Echo Chamber where only fashionable left-wing opinions can be openly voiced. ▸ The industry that invented remote collaboration tools is obsessed with control. Big Tech centralizes employees and fosters cult-like atmospheres of social control.

7. WHY IS THE ALT-TECH BETTER & DIFFERENT?

8. ALT-TECH THE ALT-TECH IS A BETTER TECH ▸ Alt-Tech is Anti-Marxist, Pro-Freedom, and Pro-America. ▸ Alt-Tech is strongly against foreign outsourcing of technology jobs and strongly for employing skilled Americans at sustainable wages. ▸ Alt-Tech is inclusionary. Alt-Tech by nature anti-left and anti-Marxist but its platforms are open to all customers regardless of politics. Alt-Tech is built on the concepts of accountability, responsibility, and privacy. ▸ Alt-Tech is not reliant on advertising-based financial models. The user is not our product. The user is our customer.

9. ALT-TECH RESTORATION AS REVOLUTION ▸ Alt-Tech promises to restore and revive the old libertarian ethos of technology as a leveler and a tool for increasing liberty. ▸ Alt-Tech will return the tech industry to the meritocracy of code. Your identity is not important, what you can build is important. ▸ Alt-Tech cares about skills, not skin color, gender, or fancy degrees. “Shut up and code” is our motto. ▸ Alt-Tech is against feels and for shipping product. Making great products trumps meeting diversity quotas.

10. A DECENTRALIZED VIRTUAL INDUSTRY THAT WILL LEVERAGE REMOTE COLLABORATION TOOLS

11. ALT-TECH TECHNOLOGY AND DECENTRALIZATION ▸ The Alt-Tech will be a decentralized virtual industry, using the remote collaboration tools invented by the prior tech industry to foster total decentralization. ▸ Alt-Tech will hire American engineers and developers and encourage them
to work remotely from rural and small-town America. Alt-Tech salaries will rejuvenate flyover country and help Make (Middle) America Great Again.
A decentralized America-First technology industry can provide excellent engineering jobs beyond cities and into American communities with affordable family formation. ▸ Modern remote collaboration tools allow us to avoid geographically concentrating tech profits to a small corner of the country and forcing tech employees into paying high rents for small rooms in unlivable crime-ridden neighborhoods.

12. ALT-TECH ENSURES OPEN ACCESS TO CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

13. ALT-TECH DOMAIN NAME REGISTRAR SERVICES ▸ The Alt-Tech needs Domain Services to be provided by an ICANN-Accredited Registrar. ▸ Domain services are a critical component of provisioning any internet service. ▸ GoDaddy, Google, and others are selectively denying Domain Name Services to customers based on content. ▸ Best approach is to purchase an already accredited registrar to avoid any ICANN accreditation gamesmanship.

14. ALT-TECH DDOS PREVENTION SERVICES ▸ DDOS prevention has become another critical component of any edgy or political internet offering. Without DDOS protection any controversial offering quickly finds itself swamped by malicious bad actors. ▸ Top DDOS vendor Cloudflare has been long-committed to the cause of internet free speech, but recently banned The Daily Stormer because the leftist CEO “woke up in a bad mood”.

15. ALT-TECH CREDIT CARD BILLING SERVICES ▸ Resources are power, so the ability to charge and bill credit cards is essential to any movement. Bitcoin promises to democratize this but still lacks the penetration to make it a viable solution on its own. ▸ PayPal and Stripe have denied services to both individual fundraisers and crowdfunding platforms. There are no known viable alternatives that are open to use by right- wing activists or sympathizers.
16. ALT-TECH WEB HOSTING SERVICES ▸ Web hosting is the final piece of necessary infrastructure. That market is generally healthy and competitive. ▸ Hiding webservers behind inexpensive front-end proxies is easy to do, when the company hosting the proxy is pressured, only the proxy needs to be moved while our main infrastructure is hosted by a company unknown to attackers. ▸ Hosting makes sense as a product for the sake of offering a complete solution but in itself is not necessary to address.

17. ALT-TECH ALT-TECH INFRASTRUCTURE PROVIDER ▸ We propose the funding and construction of an Alt-Tech infrastructure provider. This provider will be dedicated to the cause of Internet Freedom and will offer services to all law- abiding customers regardless of political views. ▸ DNS services, DDOS protection, and Billing services are the key offerings, with hosting also available so the company can provide a full-stack solution to customers. ▸ The Alt-Tech needs a reliable infrastructure provider that will not censor it. Controlling our own infrastructure is critical to the survival of pro-right political thought and humor on the internet.

18. ALT-TECH ALT-TECH OPEN SOURCE STRATEGY ▸ Our Alt-Tech infrastructure provider should develop a suite of open-source tools for running critical infrastructure, including DNS services, DDOS prevention, hosting, and billing. We should also open source all the necessary customer service & relationship tools we use. ▸ Developing these open source tools serves as insurance in the event of the loss of the infrastructure company to hostile buyouts or SJW entryism. Open source tools will allow these services to be more easily re-provisioned by a new infrastructure company should that become necessary.

19. ALT-TECH FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS ▸ I am in contact with a banking organization that may be willing to provide banking services to our proposed Alt-Tech ISO. ▸ Purchasing a registrar, building a DDOS capability, and launching an ISO using white-labeled software is estimated to cost approximately $5-10M, depending on the robustness of the DDOS prevention desired. ▸ At the high end of the funding range it may be possible to use this platform to compete with Cloudflare for enterprise API customers, a lucrative market in which the standard Cloudflare offering is weak. This could subsidize provision of the other services.

20. THE ALT-TECH FUND

21. ALT-TECH THE GREAT SCHISM IS HAPPENING ▸ Big Tech has chosen to align with the Left, and has chosen to alienate any of their customers who are not sympathetic to openly Leftist politics. ▸ This creates an opportunity to rebuild the internet economy for a non-Leftist audience. The market is demanding non-Marxist alternatives and those markets will grow as the Big Tech censorship does. ▸ The first VCs to fund these alternatives will be the ground- floor profit-makers of the Alt-Tech revolution.

22. THE ALT-TECH MOMENT IS NOW

23. ALT-TECH THE ALT-TECH MOMENT IS NOW ▸ Big Tech has alienated its Republican, conservative, and non- Leftist customers and the market desires alternatives. ▸ Simultaneously, Big Tech has alienated its own employees. Those who are not doctrinaire Social Justice Warriors themselves feel silenced and fear the repeated public witch-hunts for heretics. Many Big Tech top engineers will leap at the chance to work for a “normal” company, even accepting less money. ▸ This market opening plus the simultaneous availability of top engineering talent to Alt-Tech companies is a perfect storm of opportunity, if we have the vision and the capital to seize it.

24. ALT-TECH ALT-TECH PLATFORM OPPORTUNITIES ▸ Video sharing ▸ Crowdfunding ▸ Social Networking ▸ Photo Sharing ▸ Online Dating ▸ Shopping ▸ Podcast Sharing ▸ Videogame Streaming ▸ Custom Products ▸ Search Engines ▸ Encyclopedias ▸ More…
25. ALT-TECH FUND AND INFRASTRUCTURE SYNERGY ▸ Our Alt-Tech infrastructure company provides the reliable foundation for the rest of the Alt-Tech companies. They cannot exist without it. ▸ Our Alt-Tech Fund fosters the launch of Alt-Tech platform companies, which in turn provide customers to the infrastructure company thus providing it with the critical mass of business needed to ensure its survival and sustainability. ▸ The market, technical talent, and ideas are waiting for leaders to seize them. Capital is the missing ingredient.

26. ALT-TECH EXISTENTIAL CRISIS AS OPPORTUNITY ▸ If the Alt-Tech infrastructure is not built, freedom on the Internet as we used to know it will no longer exist. Big Tech companies will further crack down on “fringe” politics, the definition of which will quickly expand to encompass even basic mainstream support for President Trump. ▸ This is an attempt to prepare the ground for the 2018 midterms. Grassroots internet right-wingers were reliably behind Donald Trump in 2016 and Big Tech is not going to allow it to happen again.

27. ALT-TECH IS THE ONLY HOPE FOR DEFENDING INTERNET FREEDOM AND DISRUPTING THE PROGRESSIVE STRANGLEHOLD ON TECH

28. ALT-TECH CONTACT ▸ Pax Dickinson [email protected] Pax Dickinson is the current chairman and founder of Counter.Fund, a founder of WeSearchr, founder of Glimpse, and former CTO of Business Insider. Pax is a college-dropout autodidact with 25 years of experience in the technology industry in the fields of web, mobile, and security. He was the target of one of the first leftist political purges and has been fighting the Left full-time since 2013.

Here are my thoughts on alt-tech:

  1. It is essential to create a funding source for an alt-tech venture capital group. We don't need billions upon billions of dollars. What we need is enough seed money to bring products to markets that are underserved by leftist SJW companies like Goolag.
  2. We need a Super PAC that puts pressure on Washington D.C. to trust bust existing leftist monopolies abusing the internet through censorship, firing people from their jobs without cause and other forms of retaliation.
  3. We need idea incubators for alt-tech open source projects that support men in the tech industry building great products, even those not for profit. For instance, a free-speech commenting system as an alternative to Disqus would be a great replacement for returnofkings.com in case Disqus ever started to purge Roosh's system.
  4. Payment systems and alternative currencies are ripe for disruption. Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, AMEX have all dominated the scene for so long and have brought only nominal improvements to the marketplace. They thrive off of abusing their default status in the marketplace. Blockchain and crypto currencies are critical to the success of alt-tech. For example: The vast majority of us have checking accounts with ACH debit or deposit as an option. An alt-tech BitCoin (Little Dark Coin 2.0?) (Ok, there's probably a better name out there) could serve as a conduit for masking financial support of "wrong think". Take your standard US Dollars or Euros and convert them into crypto. From there, fund Roosh, Pax or some other alt-tech personality or venture capital group that supports alt-tech. Right now, Roosh had his PayPal shut down. In the future, for any bank or currency exchange that supports transfers into crypto currencies will immediately cut off an avenue of censorship.
  5. Stop using all forms of SJW websites (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) except to promote their free-speech alternatives such as gab.ai, minds.com etc. Use their own systems against them, but also block all their ads and ruthlessly self-promote alt-tech alternatives. If they ban you, so be it. Convert who you can while you're still on the platform and consider your eventual ban a mark of pride.
  6. Roosh, please consider adding a sub-forum to RVF that can be a place to bounce ideas around as it relates to alt-tech. For example: Let's say that two or three of us RVF members have experience with Linux hosting and want to create a shared web hosting service dedicated to free speech. That kind of discussion to gauge interest and connect people with the needed skill sets or funding can be brought together to get these needed projects launched.
  7. Bring the discussion offline. Talk to other men about alt-tech and the importance it will play for the future of human liberty and individual rights. The US Constitution was written by men that would have supported an alt-tech movement if they were alive today. Carry the torch that was passed on to us by our forefathers.
What platforms, systems and techniques can you think of to help build the alt-tech revolution? Speak up, the freedom of expression in the West depends upon us building end-runs around the totalitarian thugs that would love nothing less than sanitizing and delete everything from the internet that doesn't meet their world view.

We must resist. It is a moral imperative.

Honorable mention in the Alt Tech Revolution is Vox Day's side project, the fork of Wikipedia: Infogalactic

Vox is one of many that are leading the way in forking key parts of the internet that are opensource.

One thing everyone can do is to identify and maintain opernsource projects that benefit everyone and prevent SJWs convergence. Any mention of rules of conduct is sign that project will need to be fork in the near future.

The Alt-Tech Revolution: Master Thread For Tech Ideas in an Age of Censorship

Great post by the OP and excellent responses. I don't have much to add but would like to affirm that this is an awesome thread. Alt-Tech could turn into something truly amazing and if done right may wind up displacing the current Marxist Silicon Valley monopoly. I'm highly technical (coded for over 30 years) and own my own firm which also happens to be location independent and relatively resilient against doxing or SJW pressures. I actually anticipated the current phase many years ago and decided to extract myself out of the 'system' as much as possible. However even my setup may one day fall prey to a denial of DNS services as it's currently impossible to run a public server without that (yes, there are ways but they are extremely limiting).

So we need a technical solution which bypasses the current DNS network. Perhaps a self healing resilient network of tunnels which rides on top of the existing Internet and thus permits an alternate type of existence. I'm not talking about a handful of servers here but thousands.

Or alternatively we need an alternate addressing scheme paired with an HTTP type protocol which can be used in a special browser. Think about it, just by altering the addressing scheme and the protocol a public domain browser like Firefox could be hacked to access sites/services which are being suppressed via existing protocols. Remember that routers only see packets.

By the way this is nothing new. The Tor project and the onion router work just like that. But we need something faster and a bit more slicker as Tor never made it beyond a niche group of adopters.

Redpillage,

I'm not sure that a Dark Web 2.0 is what we want to be aiming for. Remember, the average user isn't a techie that can be bothered with Tor and alternative connection methods. It is imperative that we are visible and making a public stand for the Internet As We Know It.

With your own firm, have you thought about launching an alt-tech venture of sorts, even if you create a separate entity to protect your primary business? If you have the manpower and know-how, there are certainly a number of ideas that I think could be money makers as well supporting a good cause. PM me if you would rather talk about it in private.

I think whatever system builds up is going to have to closely resemble the ToR network in functionality. Encrypted, peer-to-peer communications that can't be cut off from anything other than blocking the end user at the point of use.

The key factor is that the technology in question needs to be resistant to centralization. If that is achieved, then it is effectively impossible for any central authority to block them off as we have now.

Yes, endpoint-to-endpoint networks that are secure and built with privacy from the ground up are essential. That being said, we all still rely on two existing factors that cannot easily be mitigated:

1. ISP access

ISP's, for the most part, especially in the United States have resisted any efforts to block individual websites from their services. If you have the "dumb" pipe, you can access it. In other parts of the world, governments and NGO's have pressured ISPs to block "hate speech" if that "hate speech" goes against the globalist/leftist narrative.

2. DNS access

Domain services, especially if pressured by left-wing groups are already under attack. Don't like someone? Call their domain registrar and tell them they are hosting a Nazi. Now their domain is locked and can't get transferred. We need legal action to be taken against domain registrars who block transfer or freeze accounts of domains that are NOT BEING USED FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSES.

Free-speech advocates must start suing registrars who freeze accounts and hold domains hostage for political reasons. Counter.fund might be an excellent place to start such a campaign once launched. Registrars need to defend any domain freeze as based in breaking the law, not offending SJWs.

While I think it certainly doesn't hurt to consider "alternative web" solutions, there's still plenty of internet freedom out there in the United States that needs defending. Easy of access of the current system is what brings a message to a mass audience.

We need to keep that access open and fight for every inch of it, and only use "alternative web" as a fallback in case we lose the first fight. "Alternative web" should be a secondary consideration, because it also makes it easier to brand it as "Dark Web 2.0" where only the mean, scary people hang out. We need the Web As We Know It to stay intact.

Actually my point was that it would not be anything 'Dark X.0' - it would be openly and widely adoptable with very little technical know how required. Of course there lies the rub, it's an engineering challenge at first and then it needs to attract widespread attention and of course gain rapid adoption.

Look, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Either you launch an alternative subnet of sorts or you remain dependent on the existing infrastructure which is mostly owned by a conglomerate of corporations. It's not 1990 anymore where a lot of the infrastructure was run by DARPA and various educational organizations. I remember those days well and in some respect I do miss those innocent early years when everything seemed possible and Pandora's box had not yet sprung open (i.e. Facebook and the rest of the social media ilk).

The model that needs to be followed IMO is that of open source public domain software with a strong focus on absolute neutrality and strict abidance to the bill of rights. Trust me when I tell you that there are literally tens of thousands of frustrated alt-right friendly engineers just waiting for an opportunity to donate their time and energy to such a project.

These should be our four main goals going forward:

1) To attract the engineering talent.
2) Define the overall vision and main goals of the project.
3) Enable contributors to participate and meet small iterative milestones.
4) Most important of all: INSPIRE people. We need to clearly define our vision and how it stands in contrast of where the Internet is currently heading.

I'm willing to do my part.

A couple of observations that came out of the TDS censorship story

Bitmitigate stepped up and offered DDOS protection after Cloudfare pulled out - seems like a service dedicated to neutrality
Protonmail deleted one of the TDS contributors. Proton mail has a good model for privacy and security so its probably a good option if you keep a low profile. If you're public and controversial, you'll need another option.
Weev is saying that Cisco/OpenDNS are censoring the TDS domain preventing 2% of internet users from accessing the site - not being in tech I don't really know what that means or how they're doing it, just reporting in.

Someone I know was telling me that everything needed to be decentralized, peer-to-peer, and use blockchain technology like what zeronet is trying to do. Basically create a scenario where censorship was impossible even if it was desired. Not being technical, I'm not sure if he's right - is that kind of what you're referring to?

All good ideas. I think it starts with pushing an alt-tech conversation into existing platforms like faceborg and twatter. Once enough people are aware of alternative methods of connecting, let them ban the rest of our accounts on those platforms. The more people they ban, the harder it is to deny the censorship, but the bannings also can be used to increase alternative platform membership.

You can still use a whitelist for OpenDNS to whitelist domains that are flagged as "hate", providing you are a network admin who used OpenDNS on your router. I use OpenDNS at my home because it helps block malware sites. Rooshvforum.com is blocked as a "porn and/or hate" site as I recall. No problem, I'm still able to whitelist it and have no problem accessing Roosh. If someone knows of an alternative to OpenDNS, I'm all ears.

One more alternative I forgot to mention earlier: https://2ndvote.com/ (A website dedicated to listing good and bad companies that support different conservative or leftist causes. They also have a mobile app. Now you know who to support and who to boycott.)

No mention of protonmail.com?

I've never used it, as I host my own email service on my web server, but I have heard good things about it.

I use it after ZZN went AWOL/bust. It's decent and not one of the mainstream e-mail service providers.

Know yourself. The list below is a start. Realize its not just using them but providing feedback to make this tech better. Also, you shouldnt just use "Youtube lite" or "Google-alt". Someone had mentioned protonmail and up to this point they are not at all like GMail plus you may have to pay for the service (the free tier doesnt allow for a lot of space). Weed out the bad tech and the turncoats who may shadowban. Help the development on duckduckgo for instance (all the techies out there). And share with everyone good reasonable alternatives.

Thank you.

Here's a list of websites that people interested in alt-tech should be aware of:

https://voat.co/ (alternative to reddit)
https://counter.fund/ (alternative to Patreon, PayPal, etc.)
https://www.bitchute.com/ (alternative to YouTube)
https://vid.me/ (alternative to YouTube)
https://gab.ai/ (alternative to Twitter)
https://www.minds.com/ (alternative to Facebook)
https://www.wesearchr.com/ (alternative to Kickstarter/GoFundMe)

Everyone, please add more links to additional resources as they become available.

Know your enemy.

We know who the enemy is but sometimes we aren't sure what the focus should be in fighting. This may be hard to swallow but we should not boycott. We should still use their shit to know how they work...how they play. Although everyone should stay off of Facebook.....You have to know how Google and Gmail works to know how they can be replaced. What are the best reasonable alternatives to Amazon? Use their product to start....

And another thing...

duckduckgo is trash. The whole privacy thing is a lame marketing attempt, they just piggy back off google and collect even more data on you.

Can exit nodes eavesdrop on communications? Isn't that bad?

Yes, the guy running the exit node can read the bytes that come in and out there. Tor anonymizes the origin of your traffic, and it makes sure to encrypt everything inside the Tor network, but it does not magically encrypt all traffic throughout the Internet.

This is why you should always use end-to-end encryption such as SSL for sensitive Internet connections. (The corollary to this answer is that if you are worried about somebody intercepting your traffic and you're *not* using end-to-end encryption at the application layer, then something has already gone wrong and you shouldn't be thinking that Tor is the problem.)

As I see it, Tor can hide where you are, but not who you are. That can only be done by using it only for when you truly need it - keep it apart from your other web habits.

If you want to see RVF on Tor you are safe until you log onto Fag-Book in a new tab... then BOOM you are dead.

You will need to think of it as if this is a new life, apart from the one you have now. Act as if you cheat on your wife - new car, new shirt, new condo, new phone, new cash card - ALL must be kept clear from your first life.

On the topic of the OP - There is hope, but I shall wait and see; very easy to make up hype, but want to see some moves on the board. Cash is prob the most vital - from there, all else will flow.

I think this right there really is the core of the matter. Right now banning is working against us as it reduces the number of voices that argue our side of the argument (which of course is the idea entirely). We need to turn this weakness into a competitive advantage, in that every time they ban someone they are not only losing a content producer but more and more viewers as well. The best needs to be led into destroying itself.

Another pressure point would be pointed towards investors. Make a big stink that censorship decreases new and active user bases, drives down engagement and reduces platform loyalty and revenue. If every man here could convince at least 10 other people to find alternatives, and have those ten people find ten more people, we could make a serious dent into their user bases. The key is having ready knowledge of alternatives. It isn't enough to say "twitter censorship sucks". You need to link them to http://www.gab.ai. Do this for enough people and the investors will start to question the wisdom of the SJW censorship. Investors may pay lip service to SJW ethos, but when the bottom line starts hurting, we'll see a reduction of this nonsense.
